With his chores done, Michael locked the house, dropped off the trash and headed to his new friend Brian's house.
He was excited. Brian's family was going to be there.
Brian had finally told him about them; his sister, his mom who didn't work, and his dad who liked to bowl.
Brian is so lucky. He thought wistfully.
Michael remembered Brian laughing this weird laugh, and calling him pathetic, when he had told Brian he was jealous.
He just doesn't know how good he has it.

For just a split second, I was jealous of them. Truly, bitingly envious. It wasn't right, to feel this anger at them, and it wasn't fair. But right then, I was jealous of what Justin had, what Michael had, what I didn't. Debbie...Jennifer...they loved their sons more than anything, and had proved it. Joan...she said the words. She didn't mean them. How could she, when they were accompanied by such cruel, vicious ones?
I always told Justin I'd never give him the words he used to want. But this...her...hadn't she just proved my point?
