It’s a cold night when Justin remembers. Not enough, not nearly enough.
Brian slid the warm wool scarf around his neck before sending him on his way.
“Later.” Brian had said. Nothing special, nothing remotely extraordinary.
Justin nodded without thinking, “Later.”
It wasn’t until the rattle of the mechanical door of Brian’s loft shut that Justin memory was jostled. He realises he’s holding the scarf in his hands the exact same way he had that night. He remembers twiddling the soft fabric, but that’s all.
It’s nothing at all really. Until Justin sees Brian's face, then it seems like everything. |
