halloween
[It's been a gradual progression in the spirit of the season as decorations and preparations continue to expand beyond the cities and towns - spooky little lanterns strung together across any number of outdoor paths, fake decorative spiderwebs and clusters of bats, pumpkins all grouped up together and also seen spread out along many areas in a variety of patterns and designs. It's a feeling that's been building up the more the weeks progress, more merchants and shops joining into the fray of costumes, treats, and masks as if to tell of what's to come.

When the day itself arrives, it's no ordinary start to the celebration. A mysterious main area opens up beyond the outskirts of the major towns, welcoming all travelers and residents alike, and decorated fully in intense blends of orange, black and purples. There are special vendors and banners strewn above trees along with all the previous arrangements of pumpkins and lights, although even with lights and during the day, there's still a certain feeling and a sense of the dark in the night that lingers here.

Whatever lingers when you cross the threshold in, the reason why isn't necessarily obvious: a fragment of another world has connected to a bridge and established itself here. Not just with strong connections to the Halloween festivities at large, but something beyond. Many of the people gathered here will be donning masks of all sorts, welcoming and encouraging others to come within this space between worlds, to partake in the celebration, offering candies, treats and merrymaking. Haven't chosen a costume? Don't be surprised if a masked individual casts a spell to dress you up for the day or shares a mask with you to have. Feeling wary of the decorative entrance of the main area? A silly poof of purple smoke will drop you in for the fun.

All well and good if that were all that this place brought with it to the land of seven colors. You see, certain masked individuals will be more than they appear. Spirits from beyond the worlds have taken up these masks to disguise themselves in order to steal your very own vital energy, tricking and luring some in with anything from music and dance to the deception of someone you love beneath the mask, surely if you could just get one closer look...

As the feast goes on, some spirits won't bother with gimmicks, attacking any target they deem vulnerable enough, so be careful of wandering the dark alone tonight - nothing is ever what it seems]

[[Our first Halloween event! Versión en español en cuanto pueda subirla, pero como siempre pueden taggear como mejor les acomode.]]

I might be delightful company, but it hasn't even been a day. What happened to the "traveling" part of "Travelers"?

Clearly you're just too popular, big guy. [Or whoever or whatever is doing all this magic nonsense is trying to fuck with you, which is more likely but less fun to say.]

[Examines the letter next to see if he can get anything from the handwriting, already suspecting that, no, he won't be able to figure out shit. Which he does not like at all.]

[Sighs, yes this magic thing has clearly gone out of control.]

How am I supposed to "choose a place to stay" [waves the little note around] when I don't even know half of them?

You say that as if you don't have a checklist for an ideal room. [He's heard you complaining enough times while they're traveling to know that's true.]

Exactly! But does anyone here pass the test? How should I know? [A MYSTERY they should be giving him time to find out.]

Guess there's only one way to find out.

True enough. [Bah. Send him back, he's got shit to fix.] I don't suppose you'd want to join me? [In a rOOM!1! So scandalous! Only he means, in going to check these places out.]

["Bah" just about sums it up, yes.]

Hey, you're not getting rid of me so easily.

[He'd make some sort of joke here, but, well, this isn't his favorite situation ever. But like hell he's going to leave Dorian by himself (or leave himself by himself in this magic-y place. Like hell he's not going to check out each room carefully, in any case.]

[Good, be reasonable for once. Given it's quite some distance there, let us spongebob-timecard-fy this thread into a while later. He definitely wants to settle by the City, as everything in EverGreen sounded like it'd make him sneeze to death, and the rest sounded more boring.

But for now, he wants to get to what's closest to an inn, so to Sunset it is, even if it's dull for now. He appreciates a little dullness in what's been an insane few hours.]

[Sometimes dull is the better choice, especially when dealing with a lot of unknowns. But yes, does indeed busy himself during these hours investigating everything he can manage to observe, if only for some semblance of control. Grumble grumble, magic crap.]

Looking at it like this, it almost seems normal.

[The room does have two beds - one reinforced, even, and likely the reason for having it offered to them. He's given up on removing his costume for now and instead is going around the place, inspecting every corner.]

Yes, well, I'm not taking any chances. [Won't ask you to kneel, not in this context, so enjoy the view while he tries to look under the beds themselves.]

Well, the view's not too bad.

[Makes a sort of undignified snort at that, Maker you're ridiculous.]

Oh, don't be absurd. [Is he moving from where he is? Not for another couple moments. So definitely enjoy it.]

[He's ridiculous and you like it, heh.] [But yes, he's very much enjoying the view.]

What would be absurd is if I ignored a nice ass when I see one. [:D]

[Does finally stand up, satisfied there isn't some magical trap under the beds.]

I'm surprised you can see anything at all, with this ridiculous costume.

[Hums, amused.]

As if something like this could hide that. [...] Besides, the costume's not too bad. Looks fun to unwrap.

[Heavy sarcasm initially:] Right. To fulfill my life-long dream of being a present someone could...

Actually, that is a pretty decent idea. [Is he maybe handing out an invitation there? Yes.]

[info]wantingtoride

[It's all the invitation he needs to start tugging on a loose end of all the wrappings he can find, more teasing than intentional to start.]

Not that you don't look like someone waiting to be unwrapped in your usual getup, though. [All those belts and strappy things, etc. Always fun (and a little tedious) to get off, but oh-so-very-satisfying once it happens. Can you tell that's what he's thinking? Because he's doing a dumb eyebrow waggle as he tugs on the bandages and starts unwrapping them.]

[He allows this, his smiles turning from snarky to just interested very quickly.]

I've never claimed not to be. [Someone waiting to be unwrapped. He might be sarcastic about it, but who's to say there isn't some truth there.] Besides, it's fashionable. [Not like you'd know!1!]

[Makes one of those grumbly 'uh huh' noises at that. Yes, fashionable. Of course.]

Fashion. Things would be a lot better for everybody if everyone just wore drawstring pants. [Easy to take off, economical, fun! it's the best of all worlds.]

[Lets out an exasperated (fond) sigh, in turn.]

I suppose I should be glad you at least want them to be wearing pants. [Rather than nothing at all.]

If I'm leaving anyone without pants, it'll be through personal interest or a game of Wicked Grace.
