PREMISE

Fueled by magic and people's energies, the land of Rainbow Bridge is a star-shaped country sitting in the space between worlds. Named after the bridges that link it to other dimensions, which light up in all the colors of the rainbow when active, this is one unusual world.

While the country has a variation of scenery like the sea, forests, mountains, routes, and of course the different towns and the large city in it, busy with people working or mingling, the whole place seems to be used to things being temporary.

Connections to other worlds light up regularly, and yet last for short periods of time before they switch to a new place, or become dormant for a while. The connection allows Travelers to come over and visit the continent (and other people, be it to socialize, trade, learn or even less wholesome activities), their stay is brief and they'll leave once the worlds shift once more. Shops, libraries, hospitals, and all sorts of places across Rainbow Bridge are most likely ran by these Travelers who will later leave the spot to someone else. Folks may not settle down to grow roots here, but there's a clear tradition present - do your best, and pass the torch to the one who follows after you.

This isn't true of everyone, of course. Some people might end up so attached they decide not to cross the bridge back home yet, and indeed become one of the rare Residents, a sort of privileged status within this world.

Residents are given a falling star charm, which is linked to their own vital energy as a source of power (think of a portable little battery for magic & other abilities), which may grant even those without any sort of magical or supernatural power the ability to protect themselves or others in hostile situations, creating shields or bursts of power to stop a monster or enemy threat, or even healing someone's wounds faster. You can also return to major warp points from anywhere in the map, at the cost of a larger amount of energy.

With their extra time in this world, Residents may take up any job or task available, be it running a local shop at the towns or big city, fishing with others at the port town, doing hunting quests at the forests (or treasure hunting at the far creepier crimson woods and castles), gathering or cultivating herbs for healing and magical purposes, working the farms, running errands for the mail, even deciding to lurk around in roads and make a living out of less fortunate people passing by - or to be the one who tries to eradicate such threats to others.

Even if you simply choose to be outside society, and maybe take up one of the abandoned old castles for yourself, or to seclude yourself at some cabin at one of the roads, you'll have plenty of chances to meet up with others... and plenty of reasons to need their help, as well.

Aside from the more logical and occasional social events, the continent's connection to the other worlds isn't always stable, and the shifts in energy may cause strange things to happen now and then - strange storms out of the sudden, an abundance of some creature from the forest swarming and going into towns, more harmless things such as mood shifts affecting a lot of people at once, and more awful ones like a spontaneous memory loss, or some old wound reopening... Not just that, but not every world that links to this one is safe. Some of them might even open up both ways, so those who dare can head over to explore, gather resources, and such. Maybe they'll simply be sucked in by that land's energy and have to find their way back home.

Whatever happens, you can be sure your stay at Rainbow Bridge, be it long or short, will be a memorable one.
