After school, Hikari found her way to Jubilife. She'd been scheduled for an interview with Jubilife TV for several weeks now, but now that she knew Cyrus was back, and living in the city, it was with some amount of trepidation that she strode towards the TV station building from the Pokemon Center. Probably, it wouldn't have been as bad to run into him again as she was thinking, but all the same, she didn't especially want to tempt fate. On the upside, her interview had gone swimmingly, with nary a worrisome moment to shake her completely fake but still somehow convincing smile. She left the TV station, heading for a cafe across from the Trainer's School she'd grown fond of when she was younger.

He stared down at his hands, clearly deep in thought, before eventually speaking again in a hushed voice.
"You'd be surprised what you can live through."

Hikari bit her lip. She hadn't meant to...Or had she? "I'm sorry," she said quietly.

"Think nothing of it." He shook his head, she wasn't to know. "At first, it was very interesting to see how things operated in a world of chaos and entropy, a universe of pure potential."

He ran his finger along the table, picking up grains of salt.
"I was a lone force of logic and order in that world. I imposed control on that which surrounded me, by force of will alone, I shaped what was essentially raw material. Like clay, on a universal scale." He pushed the salt grains together, forming a line.
"I sealed myself away. Hidden in a corner of the void, indistinguishable from any untouched land on this Earth. Even if you had come back for me, you would not have found me." He withdrew his finger, the salt now pushed into a ring shape.

"But, as a lone force of order, my logical, structured creation was something never meant to exist in that world... It stood out like a beacon in the darkness of his world." With a quick, sweeping motion, he brushed all the salt aside, scattering it.

Hikari watched in silence. There was something still so enticing about listening to him talk, even though she still held to her belief that his ways were entirely wrong. "Then did being there sate your thirst for playing god?" she asked. It was an honest question; there was no sarcasm in her voice.

"My motivation was not to simply 'play god', as you put it. My intent was only to save mankind, and that was simply a means to an end." He brushed his hands together, clearing off the salt.

"I want so much to help them. But more than that, to help them help themselves. Not just to treat the symptoms of this sick world, but the root cause." He leaned back again, staring up into the sky. "I hate it... And I hate the fact that I hate it. It's a piece of myself that I can never remove... A piece of everyone."

"Sometimes it's difficult being human."

Hikari glanced up and smiled at the waitress who had just arrived with their order. "Thank you," she said softly. She took a sip of her tea and looked back at Cyrus. "My apologies for misunderstanding, then." She paused. "I was just a child, you know. Thrown into the middle of..." She trailed off. She could understand his resentment of his own hatred; that was how she felt about Cynthia. Underneath all of the respect she held for the Champion, now her partner, there was still a grudge she held, that as an adult, Cynthia had not stepped in to do more against Team Galactic, that the blonde had left it up to a child to to stop them and save the world. "I had little choice in the matter, I guess you could say."

"Very difficult." He agreed, looking up at the waitress as she approached them, giving a silent nod in way of thanks as he took his coffee.

"Sometimes children are pushed farther than they ever should be." He took a sip, considering it for a moment before reaching for the sugar. "Those moments are so fragile. Push too hard and it can shatter... Fractures that can never be repaired." He stirred in a spoonful, the spoon clinking softly as he fell into a momentary silence.

"You shouldn't have been put into that situation."

Hikari smiled wanly. "Well...too late now, wouldn't you say? What's done is done, after all." She poked at her sandwich with a fork, but didn't touch it. She'd lost her appetite suddenly.

"Hmn... We cannot change the past." He took another sip of his coffee, a little more satisfied this time.
"No matter how much we may want to. We can only use those experiences to build our future."

"Yes, I suppose we can agree on that, as well." Hikari tipped her head back to look upwards. "It's getting late, isn't it?"

"It is?" He blinked, glancing again up towards the sky. "I hadn't noticed... How long have we been here?"

She shrugged. Her Poketch was rarely left on the time app. "A while, I guess." She looked at the sandwich, sitting dejected and forgotten on her plate. "Long enough."

He furrowed his brow, looking down at his coffee. There was no steam rising from it. Taking a sip, he found it to be cold.
"Has it really been that long?" He glanced aside, realising that there were much less people around than before, the sky distinctly darker than before.
"Well that is... Worrying."

Hikari's head shot up. "You don't lose time, too, do you?" she questioned before she had a chance to stop herself. Immediately she regretted it. That was entirely too much to admit.

"Too?.. Hmn." It didn't come as too much of a surprise, he couldn't have been sure how long she had even been in the Distortion World before she got to leave. He'd learned enough to know that, while their encounter only seemed to last hours, it could have been days.

"Nothing is consistent anymore. I have been recovering from my return, now, for over six months. It has only felt like days. Days pass by in hours. But then, minutes can last for days. I have to stop myself before speaking because I don't know if I'm speaking to fast or slow... Or sometimes, even in the right order."
A strange, choked sound came in his throat, sounding almost like a cough. A forced, strained laugh, sounding entirely unnatural.
"When I first returned, I could only communicate through writing. It was the only way I could keep the words in the right order."

Hikari had to bite back a sigh of relief that it hadn't been quite so bad for her. "I'm sorry," she said again.

"I know." He pushed aside the coffee, sighing.
"I think I have recovered from the worst of it. Apart, perhaps, from the pacing of my words."

"I've not had any trouble understanding, for what it's worth." Hikari reached down to dig her wallet out of her purse. "So...Practice pays off sometimes, I guess."

"I never thought I'd be in speech therapy, that's for sure." He followed suit, reaching into his pocket for his own wallet.
"I haven't even tried speaking in my native tongue, to anyone who could tell me if I slipped up, at least."

Hikari cocked her head. "It's not English?" She raised her eyebrows as she fished out her debit card. "I'd not have guessed."

"Trilingual." He nodded, pulling out a small note. "I am mixed race. My parents both spoke English as a common language. When alone I speak, think and write my personal notes in Russian."

"Goodness. The third, is it Japanese?" She was taking a stab in the dark, really, based merely on the last name she knew. Who knew if that was really his last name, though? She shouldered her bag carefully. "I've considered taking Mandarin, but Mother insists on something European."

"Japanese, yes." he nodded, leaning down to collect his bags.
"Though I rarely speak it. Only when I have to, really. English being the dominant language that it is, is far more useful to have as my second. I suppose European languages are more widespread, and thus, more 'useful' than eastern languages."

"Yes, and much more boring." Hikari huffed. Lately she had been butting heads with her mother more and more; this was just one in a long list of complaints. She turned to Cyrus. "It's been lovely talking," she said carefully.

"Hmn. Well, I suppose as something becomes more common, it becomes more mundane. I suppose people have an interest in the rare and exotic without thinking how practical it is in application."
Cyrus own line of thinking was not exactly to follow what he wanted, but what was best in the situation.

"Mmh... It has been interesting. I am not usually one for small talk."
