Even though she was still in the process of moving in, Sarah already knew Pax Letale had been the right choice. The view was amazing, the people were mostly friendly, and somehow a friend she hadn't seen in years ended up living in the same place. As long as none of her ex-boyfriends moved in - which she thought was a little too unreal to actually happen - then she really didn't have anything to worry about.

She'd spent her break getting plants for the nameless 103, and at 3 o'clock sharp punched out and caught a ride off a co-worker to get them back. Usually she would have taken the bus or a cab, but she needed the trunk space and didn't have a car of her own. Once she dropped them off in front of 103, feeling pretty satisfied with herself, she hurried back to her apartment and grabbed a quick shower before changing into denim shorts and a plain white t-shirt. With minutes to spare, Sarah headed down to the lobby with a simple purse slung over her shoulder and sandals on her feet. She hadn't really had a chance to get familiar with the area yet, and exploring with someone else was always more fun.

Sheila flashed her a grin. "Something will work. If she doesn't stop, I can try and ask too." She shrugged. Try was the most accurate term - Devin was herself. Sheila didn't really want to change who she was, other than changing the spending habits so she could feed herself one of these days.

"It's my hobby - well, not just the Greco-Romans," she gave a firm nod, pausing at a street corner. Looking back and forth, before crossing she went on, "I'm not picky - the Norse and Celts have really extensive mythos as well. I'm still researching Japanese mythology as it confuses me, but Hindu?" There was a happy sigh, before shrugging again. "I could go on forever about it. I'm lucky and my job lets me do that." Meaning she only stopped because she was restraining herself.

Her lips pursed as she made a soft hmm sound, deciding the best approach. Sometimes she went with the text-book approach - just the details when explaining the myths. But Menthe was Chthonic, something that had always interested Sheila - anything related to the death and various afterlifes had intrigued her. She liked filling her own details in on the stories, filling in the blanks that the ruins and texts couldn't tell her.

"Menthe was a daughter of one of the rivers in the Underworld. She grew up on land though, as one of Demeter's - the Goddess of the Harvest and Earth - retinue. When Persephone was kidnapped by Aidoneus-" She winced, ammending with a smile. "Sorry, Hades - things changed. Some years down the road Demeter sent Menthe to the underworld to be a companion to Persephone." She uncapped her bottle of water again, adding, "For some reason, Menthe and Hades developed a relationship. Probably because of the state of things between Persephone and Hades."

She took a sip of water, before covering it. "This continued for some time, until Persephone found out. In a rage she stomped on the nymph, turning her into a plant. Menthe, also known as Minthe became Mint." She gave a final nod, signalling the end of the story. "Usually the nymphs or girls turn because of unrequited love or tragedy. Not because of an affair, that probably was justified."

Sarah wasn't the sort of person who was bored by stories - she loved hearing them, and mythology was usually more interesting than a lot of novels currently in print. Hades sounded familiar, even though her first thought was of the blue-haired antagonist from the Disney version of Hercules. "The Greek gods had a lot of affairs, didn't they?" It was something that sounded right, but she wasn't sure. Still, getting revenge by turning the girl into a mint plant was new. "I never knew that, about mint."

She barely remembered to keep track of the stores they passed, but so far there was nothing but a convenience store with a pitifully wilted flower plant hanging near the door. "What was wrong with Hades and Persephone?" she asked, curious. If she was still jealous of the affair, then things couldn't have been that bad - but why would she be jealous in the first place? Kidnapping didn't sound very romantic.

Sheila laughed, not even bothering to cover her mouth. Her head went back in a near cackle. "That's an understatement. Funny though, that it's always the guys instead of the gals-" She looked to Sarah, amused. "In terms of numbers? It's ridiculous. Though Hades really didn't really throw a fit about Adonis...which is extremely creepy in my opinion." Her nose wrinkled - the incest lines on that one bothered her. But then again, with Myrrha it wasn't that surprising...even if it again, wasn't quite her fault. Fucking Aphrodite.

Literally.

"Not many people pay attention to the myths," Sheila said, with a shrug. She wasn't offended - she was used to it. Besides it gave her an opportunity to share the stories. The question about Hades and Persephone surprised her and she snorted. "Beyond the rape thing?" Too late she remembered the effect that word had on the general public. She didn't wince, but did offer a slight smile. "In the classical sense. It's synonymous with kidnapping. Raptio is Latin for abduction after all. One tends to imply the other..."

"It's not very surprising." It wasn't to her, at least - women weren't perfect, but men had a tendency to be completely callous in terms of relationships. "Mortal men are bad enough, but gods must be terrible." There was probably a double standard, too; if one of the goddesses had an affair then their husband would strike the poor fool down with a bolt of lightning or... something childish like that. "Persephone had an affair with Adonis?" God, what hope was there for normal people if gods couldn't even stay faithful?

Sarah's eyes widened at the word 'rape', and she was seconds away from a very shocked 'What?!' when Sheila explained. "Oh. So, Hades kidnapped Persephone... but if she didn't like him, then why would she care if he had an affair or not?" As she spoke they passed a small grocery store, which she thought would be useful in the future and immediately took note of.

Sheila's arms swung leisurely, her head tilted to the side as she looked to Sarah. "She did and she was his foster-mom. Pretty much raised him. The myths are full of this stuff though. Soap operas for the times, you know?"

She gave a little shrug at that, eyes landing on a plant shop down the street. With a grin, she pointed it out, speed picking up. "Depends on the myth. Some people say she fell in love with him or chose to stay with him willingly afterwards-" She gave a look, unsure if Sarah knew that much. "By eating the pomegranate seeds? My guess is that it was Stockholm Syndrome. After a couple thousand years, you have to be really strong to hold up against that for that long."

She tried and failed to keep from frowning, her expression becoming one of faint aversion. "That's the best way to describe it... definitely the stuff soap operas are made of. People love that kind of thing, though."

Sarah followed Sheila's gesture and lit up, having half-expected to not have much luck on their first trip out. She quickened her pace to match the other girl's still interested in their talk of myths and gods. "Pomegranate seeds? It sounds kind of familiar." The romantic in her sighed at the idea of Persephone actually falling in love with Hades, but it was a rather small part of her now - kidnapping and affairs wasn't very appealing. "I guess," she laughed. "That's kind of... sad. I mean, would it have hurt for Hades to try asking or something?" She was half-joking, but there was still a hint of disapproval beneath it.

"It's why it's stayed popular throughout the times," Sheila said with a small smile. She let the subject drop beyond that though, noticing the look on Sarah's face. No need to keep on if she was uncomfortable with it.

She perked up as Sarah did - finding the reaction to a plant store just a bit amusing. "She ate six seeds and as a result had to spend the winter with him. That's why we have winter." Supposedly. "Not sure - that's the part the myths leave out, you know. We don't know if he asked before or any of that - just that he trapped her with a narcissus before carrying her off."

Moving to the door, she held it open for her. "Don't get too entranced by daffodils," she recommended. "They're not as nice as they seem." She'd looked it up years ago, when wondering exactly what a marcissus was.

There was a time when she used to watch soap operas, namely that one lazy summer when she'd been 'laid off' and hung around the house drinking pop and watching whatever was on television - and thus her introduction to the soap opera. They were ridiculously fluffy and silly, but at least provided amusement. Incest, or even kind-of incest, wasn't really part of any of the plot-lines she could remember, though.

"Well, at least she was free during the rest of the seasons - winter is the one I would pass on, if I had to choose." It wasn't much of a bright side, but it was something; although she doubted the underworld was a very pleasant place to be.

Sarah smiled before entering the store, sighing in relief - this place would do very well. "I'll do my best," she said over her shoulder. "Too bad Persephone didn't have anyone to warn her."

Sheila gave a playful grin. She couldn't help it, after the restraint from before. "Passing on winter, plants with a mother - you don't have a creepy boyfriend, do you?" Her tone was pure teasing - as much as Sheila believed in her myths and fantasy, applying them like this was only meant as a joke. "Maybe you're not Clark after all."

She followed Sarah in, looking around before heading towards a book stand. "Consider yourself warned, this time around."
