"I don't know if there'll be snow..."
Who: Open!
What: A Hallway Holiday Gathering!
Where: Naea's apartment's open!
When: December 18, 2010 @ around 7:00 p.m.
Warnings: Well. Anything can happen here. You know this.
Notes: There's drinks and food and music. It's hard to go wrong.

While "Marshmallow World" by Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin was playing on her laptop (Viva Pandora!), she was finishing up the Swedish meatballs (that she so rarely ate, but it was her mother's recipe and it was one of the very few meat items she did enjoy) and singing along with the song with a bounce in her step. For all that had fallen on her in the past year, Naea knew things could be so much worse and it was no reason to take away some of that holiday spirit. She wanted to celebrate all the good that had been and that would be. Since moving into Pax, she'd made great friends--more than she'd ever known. She would be getting her diploma in a matter of weeks, now. She felt so lucky. Fun and happy must be had.

Small cafe-style fold-type tables were set up along the hallway with some folding chairs peppered here and there as well as in her small apartment (She promised Neil, her boss, a pan of fudge for the lending). Lights were strung around some of the table legs and around her door and wherever she could get them up. Cold appetizers sat on those tables in the hall; hot ones were left in her kitchen to stay that way. Soda and spirits were available (her boss was generous, in addition to the lovely Kami). There were cookies and candy and Gypsy was tucked away safely in Pru's place.

Rare was the occasion that Naea would dress up. And tonight, with some help from Kami, she certainly did. She felt pretty and, well feminine. Not that she had never before any other time in her life, but tonight was different somehow. The lace-up back of her dress felt... sexy. Naea wasn't entirely sure what this shindig would bring tonight, but she knew that no matter what, she would be having fun.

For a moment he looked up alongside her, allowing himself to admire his handiwork for at least a brief time. His self congratulatory perusal was put to a quick end, though, with her comment; he couldn't help but laugh. "Yeah, you know how manly and aggressive I can be," he teased. "By the end of the night we'll have an MMA ring going in here." He rolled his eyes at the thought. Nothing on earth, Adam was certain, could rouse such drives in him. It was less that they were beneath him than that he operated on a wholly different plane from them; such alpha behavior was the sole jurisdiction of others, of the jock friends he'd miraculously made in high school, then somehow fallen away from.

He leaned down to pick up the cooler, intent on returning it and the rather impressive stock of beer it carried back into the hall. "It's a nice group you got together," he said, making his slow way back to the door. "I like something low key, especially after the last party got so out of control. I don't even remember all of it. I'd rather not have this one end the same way..."

Naea followed him up the hall, back to where the coolers were originally placed. She frowned deeply at his comment about the party-- she had missed the majority of it, essentially. "I was only there for about fifteen minutes. Maybe I'm glad I missed it, but I'm sorry I couldn't have been there to help." What in the world happened that night? The last thing she had remembered was Kami and Jack dancing after the latter had been hounding after her, drunk and miserable. As a matter of fact, Kami didn't say much about the evening whatsoever. How odd.

Smiling brightly, Naea's quick to dissolve Adam's fears. "Well, less people, less chance of crazy time." She hopes, anyway. People had talked about strange things around here. And, indeed, there had been a tree growing up through the floor at one point. Was it in the water? Possibly. Group hallucinations? Could be. "But I want you to have a good time. That's what it's all about."

It was impossible not to return that smile. He shook his head, laughter glinting in his black eyes as he looked up to her. "You won't have to worry about that," he said. "I'm easy to please. And this does seem like a good crowd." He leaned down to one of the ice chests, pulling a Sam Adams from the odd assortment within. The alcohol itself might have no affect on him, but at least he could enjoy the taste.

"I don't want to keep you," he said, popping the top with a nearby bottle opener. He placed both neatly aside, then raised his bottle in a wordless toast. "Go mingle as you like. I'll be around if you get bored later."

"But..." A wrinkled nose. A quasi-whine. "Mingling is hard, Adam." Naea gave a bit of an eye-roll and bumped into her friend gently. "I should, though. And if anybody gets bored, well, then I fear I have not done my job. You! Go! Mingle and be merry!" Ah, she loved Adam, truly. Not in the romantic heart-fluttery-raining hearts and glitter-shitting-unicorns way, but he was a damn good friend.

Shooing him off, she leaned down into one of the coolers and dug around for something that would be a little fruity on the palate.
