What: Pax throws a rager for St. Patrick's Day.
Where: The Last Stop.
When: March 17.
Notes: Welcome to another game event thread! The only acquiescence to the theme that had been supplied by the location selected for the latest Pax event was Flogging Molly blaring from the jukebox crammed so close to the bathroom that men and women alike had to slide their asses over its front, glass-encased menu to pee in privacy. The rest of the bar had been left untouched; the money covering every grimey inch a reminder of all the hard work put into the small bar that kept it alive.

Extra liquor was provided by the complex, entirely unnecessary and yet done regardless. Food was likewise on hand, this time the Pax management sending over their particular cook to create a plethora of holiday-themed foods: bite-sized servings of Irish stew on kabobs, shepherd's pie in small cups complete with edible potato spoons, Irish soda bread, chocolate stout cupcakes, and scones just a small sampling of the menu on hand. The bar's owner had provided her own take on the holiday's culinary offerings with gummy shamrocks soaked in vodka.

Staff was left entirely up to the location's owner, though carefully vetted by Pax management. It seemed all was well in hand by the time the first tenants decided to arrive.

This was Lucas’s first event like this, but when he saw the announcement it was too good to pass up. It was a rare night that he wasn't working, and so rather than spend the night unpacking his apartment, he decided to go out and be social. The boxes would still be there, he had the whole weekend for that.

He entered the bar and took in the atmosphere, smiling around himself at the music and the somewhat Irish themed food. He got himself a pint of Guinness at the bar and then headed over to the food table, happy that at least the nights drinkers would have some food in their stomachs. He set his beer down and picked up one of the little sheppard's pies, nodding in approval at the first bite.

Isobel made herself a neat plate of kabobs, some cabbage, and one of the stout chocolate brownies. She accidentally bumped the man who was trying one of the shepard's pies.

"Oh, I'm sorry!" She gently put fingers on his upper arm as she took a step back, nearly bumping into someone else. "I don't know if it's that there's so many more people living in the apartment complex now, or that this place is smaller than the rec room, but I feel like I'm going to spill something on someone before much longer."

She bit a lip, and then carefully extended a hand toward the man, trying to be pleasant. "I'm Isobel, by the way. D3. When did you move in?"

	Lucas laughed and put an arm out to steady the woman, "hey, don't worry about it, it's to be expected I a bar on St. Paddy's Day," he grinned. "Lucas, 1003," he greeted, about to put out a hand, but one was holding beer and the other food. He shrugged and popped the last bite in his mouth. "Hey not a problem, it's just life right?" He glanced at rhetoric table and picked up a gummy, looking it over. "Ohh it's going good, I got the essentials, though I'm still building furniture and putting away books and such.

"Maybe when I get settled I'll have you guys for dinner. I make a mean lasagna," he grinned. He popped the gummy in his mouth and paused mid-chew, swallowing. "The shamrocks are spiked, just so you know," he said with a laugh.

Isobel glanced at the shamrocks, and then to the ones on her plate. She took a spoon and carefully put them back in the bowl.

"I didn't touch them, but I don't think most people here are sober enough to notice," she said, casting a semi-sly look at Lucas. "And dinner would be great. Though I feel that since you're new, we should be the ones cooking for you. Lasagna sounds nice." She tucked her spoon back onto her plate, and started absentmindedly organizing what she had left. "Did you just go for Ikea stuff? They have some really nice pieces, even if it all kinda looks like tinker toys." She laughed a little at her own joke, shaking her head; her hand moved away from her plate and adjusted her glasses.

He watched her carefully, smiling to himself as she put the gummies back and nodding to her. "I had most of my own stuff from before I moved, though some I bought here. Not IKEA though, I grew out of that in med school," he laughed. He looked at her closely and then leant in a little so that his words wouldn't be overheard. "How far along are you?" he asked, his voice soft and kind.

	Isobel paused, a deer in headlights as she openly stared at Lucas. "I'm sorry, what?" She hadn't told anyone about her pregnancy; even Kate had only gotten the before picture, and she was still trying to figure out how to tell Obed, if she was going to tell him at all. 	He smiled again, keeping his voice lowered so others couldn't overhear. "I'm a doctor," he said disarmingly. "You've been avoiding alcohol at a St. Patrick’s Day party, you're looking slightly drawn, a little unsure. I'm guessing it's unexpected." His eyes were kind, warm, on hers. The fact that he was at least being quiet about it was nice, but she was here to avoid thinking about it at all. Isobel passed her plate between her hands, suddenly more anxious than she'd been all night.

"Please keep that to yourself," she whispered, keeping the conversation close and between them. "I... I'm just trying to have a good time. Maybe, hah," she tried a laugh, which felt half strangled in her throat, "maybe turn the doctor off for one evening?"

He nodded, "not to worry, I would never share medical information with anyone." He was about to let the subject drop, but first leaned in close once more. "Just in case, you can call me any time." Then he stepped back to a more acquaintance-like distance and his voice rose to a normal level. "I recommend those little sheppard pies if you're hungry, though I heard the cupcakes are amazing," he said, pulling one off the pile as he said it.

Her head bobbed, tongue moving over her lips. She hesitantly reached out for one of the pies, as though she were doing what she could to put the uncomfortable situation behind them. Glancing over to a more distant part of the table, she saw Rafe and Alice conversing; Rafe caught her eye, and waved.

"If you'll excuse me," she said to Lucas, grateful for the out. "It was really nice chatting. I'm just going to go say hello." Isobel smiled at Lucas one more time, hesitant in moving away before finally forcing herself to. It always felt rude, but Isobel told herself she had nothing to be sorry for. It was a party, after all, mingling was part of the whole thing.

Kate's eyebrows rose slightly as she walked into The Last Stop. The venue was certainly different from CASKET and the Pax rec room. Nevertheless she ordered a beer from the bar and made her way over to the food table. She saw Isobel speaking with Alice and a man she didn't know and was planning to make her way over once she got a plate, but then she saw a new face nearby.

"Hi! Are you the new tenant, Lucas, or just someone I haven't met yet?" she asked, picking up a plate and balancing it on top of her beer so she'd have a free hand to put food onto it. "I'm Kate, by the way."

	She shook his hand, already looking over the table for the recommended pies. She put a couple on her plate. "I'll admit I have met some nice people at these events, but it's always the food I'm most excited about," she confessed with a smile. "How are you liking the complex so far?" "Careful of the shamrocks though,they're spiked," he said, while at the same time putting two on his plate. Moderation was fine, but it was hard to judge limits if you didn't know where the alcohol was.

"It's great," he said to her question, "everyone has been really nice so far. It's a very welcoming building. It's like...a big family rather than a group of strangers."

Kate eyed the shamrocks on his plate warily and decided she'd try one after lining her stomach with more substantial things. "Thanks for the warning," she said, and piled a cupcake and kabob on her own plate.

She nodded at his assessment of the building. "This is the third event they've held for tenants, and the complex has only been open for what, less than two months now?" She was momentarily distracted by the fact that the shepherd's pie spoon was actually potato before she continued, "I wonder how long they'll continue them, and if the offerings extend to non-secular holidays like Easter next month." She took a bite of the shepherd's pie.

Lucas' eyebrows rose a little. "This is my first event like this, but if they're doing this all the time, that's pretty awesome," he said. "It's almost as if they really want us all to mingle...maybe it's a conspiracy to pair us off or something," he grinned, taking another sheppard's pie from the table and digging in. "So you've been here a while then, if you've been to three of these, right? What were the other two for?"

	At the pairing off comment, her thoughts immediately flashed to Percy. She laughed them away. "The first event was a meet and greet, and the last one was Valentine's Day themed. 	He smirked at her agreement and then nodded at her question. "It's going...I'm taking a break to be here in this violently Irish themed bar," he grinned, taking a sip of his beer. Kate nodded around a mouthful of soda bread she had picked up while Lucas answered her question. She swallowed it down with some of her beer and jumped at the chance to talk about her favorite subject. "Do you like to cook? I tend to experiment with ingredient combinations I've been told are weird, but..." She shrugged. "It's fun. Indian food is especially good at putting competing ingredients together and making something magical."

	He smiled widely, noting her enthusiasm instantly. "I do," he said, "I think Italian is my specialty, but I do make a mean curry," he said with a wink. 	He shook his head, "no, I'm from up north; Oregon," he clarified, "though farmers markets sound great...nice fresh local produce is always a plus," he said, nodding in approval. "What about you? "Born and bred," Kate replied, taking another sip of beer before picking up the cupcake on her plate. "All of my family is here, so I haven't had much need to travel. It's kept me happy." For the most part, she thought, remembering Argentina and how much fun she had with Emilia. She bit into the cupcake. "Mmmm." Mouth full, she gestured between Lucas and the cupcake platter, trying to recommend he try one.
