If possible, please use a time stamp so we can keep track of everyone. The only acquiescence to the theme that had been supplied by the location selected for the latest Pax event was Flogging Molly blaring from the jukebox crammed so close to the bathroom that men and women alike had to slide their asses over its front, glass-encased menu to pee in privacy. The rest of the bar had been left untouched; the money covering every grimey inch a reminder of all the hard work put into the small bar that kept it alive.

Extra liquor was provided by the complex, entirely unnecessary and yet done regardless. Food was likewise on hand, this time the Pax management sending over their particular cook to create a plethora of holiday-themed foods: bite-sized servings of Irish stew on kabobs, shepherd's pie in small cups complete with edible potato spoons, Irish soda bread, chocolate stout cupcakes, and scones just a small sampling of the menu on hand. The bar's owner had provided her own take on the holiday's culinary offerings with gummy shamrocks soaked in vodka.

Staff was left entirely up to the location's owner, though carefully vetted by Pax management. It seemed all was well in hand by the time the first tenants decided to arrive.

Chris was well into his cups by the time the party was actually supposed to have started. His job held odd hours, so he'd had most of the day free; making a small attempt at the holiday theme, he was wearing a button-up, olive green shirt with black slacks. He'd gotten to the bar early, and nerves had called for round after round of beers to the point where now he was feeling comfortably numb but also slightly bored. At least he wasn't freaking out at the prospect of being seen in public with Daniel; even though the other man had agreed to play nice and keep his hands to himself, Chris still harbored doubts that that would actually happen. And now he was feeling bad about asking for it to happen, because the whole idea was so silly.

"Man, you'd think people would be getting here sooner, with how much money management spends on this stuff," he said toward AJ, who was cleaning glasses behind the bar. Chris hadn't seen Jay, though he expected to before the night was out. The girl merely shrugged, smiling at him, either happy to talk to a good looking guy regardless of his sexuality or she was amused at the fact that he was already nearly drunk. He hadn't even tried the gummy shamrocks yet.

Aurora was sure to never arrive on time to a party, partially for appearances sake and also because she was just abysmal at being timely if it wasn't for work. It wasn't her fault. Mostly, she just fussed over her...everything. Too long.

Besides that, this wasn't exactly her usual affair so she could be forgiven if she didn't rush to the gathering. Still, she sat herself at the bar, smiling at the pretty girl behind it and stuffing a five in the tip jar before ordering a drink she theorized they probably couldn't even make, "Singapore Sling, please." And she glanced over at the man beside her, "Some of us were busy, thank you very much." But she smiled still, sweeping her hair back in the same motion.

"Oh yeah?" He nursed a few more drinks out of his beer, feeling far more friendly than he normally would. Chris finished the drink, and pushed it out toward the bartender, nodding at her unspoken question of 'another?'

"So what's your excuse? Work? It's a Friday, and St. Paddy's on top of that." The words were said in a jovial manner, not at all meant to be offensive despite their content. He put both hands out on the counter before him, sitting up straight as he tried not to wobble off of his stool.

7:30 p.m., by the jukebox - alice

BB liked to think she'd dragged Alice to the bar, which from the redheads' face didn't seem like that far off of an assumption, but in truth they'd crossed the threshold merely holding hands. She'd only been to the Last Stop maybe once or twice before; it wasn't honestly her kind of place, but the promise of free booze and food was enough to lure even the most easily distractable gossip reporter to this watering hole. The Flogging Molly screaming from the jukebox in the corner was enough to put a wide grin over her face, and she pulled Alice in the direction of the music.

"How pissed do you think people would be if I got this to play O Danny Boy; that's an Irish song, innit?" She flipped through the cards, disappointed to not see it presented. Most of the music was from an older generation, things BB recognized but did not especially want to play. "Man, if only they had karaoke in here. You think that's something they'll have later on in the night? Would def draw a bigger crowd. Oh my god, Alice, gummy shamrocks!" Before Alice could reply, BB was dragging her into the direction of the food table.

Alice crossed her arms over her chest and looked wearily around the bar. This was definitely well out of her element in this time of her life. She had a spark of rebellion and silly antics in college, finding herself at bars and clubs, enjoying burlesque shows and drag queens singing loudly, but then she graduated and went into a more quiet life. A life that was surrounded by measuring cups and the scent of dough, something that was manageable and pleasant. But Britt had shown a particular desire for Alice to come out tonight and knowing she had avoided activities where she had to interact with strangers for the most part since she moved in, she knew she owed her best friend the outing.

So she planned for the bakery to be taken care of by the other staff members and baked an assortment of goodies ahead of time. It was the first two day streak where Alice was away from the bakery and that honestly made her uneasy. Between that and the awkwardness of being surrounded by strangers, Alice was feeling nervous and shy.

"I think the music is kind of fitting," Alice replied, her voice nearly being drowned out by the music. She reached for a gummy shamrock and stuffed it into her mouth. "So, how long does this thing go for?"

She shrugged, using one hand to grab up as many of the gummies as she could hold while the other started feeding them into her mouth. As she bit into one, she made a face.

"Damn, that's strong. Didn't even try to mask the alcohol, hah," she muttered as she chewed on three more. "Uh, probably as long as we want or until whoever the owner is kicks us out. Speaking of, I wanted to track her down and ask how she got Pax to fund this. Talk about nepotism, right? Or I guess favoritism, at least, not sure if they're actually related. I've never met management, other than, like, Stephan, and I'm not sure if he counts.

"Oh my god, are those pigs in a blanket?" BB cradled her remaining gummies against her chest, moving away from Alice to grab at the new food item she'd noticed. "We should get some green beer, too. If they don't have green beer I will be shocked."

7:15 p.m., at a booth - max
[info]praxidike
2017-03-17 08:18 am UTC (link)
Isobel still didn't quite know how she'd allowed Aurora to talk her into coming to this place; every surface looked like it needed to be wiped down ten more times with a much stronger cleaner, though the smell of cigarettes wafting through the air was at once both comforting and cloying. She'd ordered a simple martini from the person working the bar, and then tucked herself into a booth in the back while she tried to recognize others walking into the establishment. She didn't touch the martini - it was for show. She still hadn't taken a pregnancy test, afraid of the results, but the fact that her period was still MIA did not reassure her in the slightest.

Going out was supposed to help relieve her nerves, but instead she found herself feeling more off kilter. The music was a little too loud, the bar a little too grimey. She felt exquisitely out of place, more than she ever had elsewhere, and wished she'd traded her glasses for her contacts if she was truly going to attempt to make a go of this. Then she recognized the instructor from her self defense class and grabbed for the first bit of social interaction that might distract her from her other thoughts.

"Max, right? It was Max?" She made an attempt at a grin and patted the seat next to her. "Join me?"

Max had heard about the party, and was stoked. Not only was it mandatory to get shitfaced on St. Patrick's Day, it was also full of all the tropes of a great party - drunk people, crazy holiday crap, stupid games and food. She was currently maneuvering her way through the bar with a pint of beer in one hand and some sort of meat on a stick in the other, looking around at the people who were already here and winking at a few of the cute ones.

She was just passing the booths when she heard her name and stopped, turning to see the shy woman from her classes. A wide smile broke out on her face. "Hey!" she greeted, setting her beer down and sidling over towards the booth and taking the offered seat. "Great party, I'm glad you could make it. Belle, right?" she met a lot of people and often got names confused, but for some reason that stuck out for her.

"Isobel, so close," she replied, smiling at the sobriquet. She'd never gotten used to nicknames, not even as a child, but worse things could've been said about her. She wrapped a hand delicately around her drink.

"I didn't realize you were a Pax resident as well as its resident self defense instructor. You wanna take a seat? Right now I have the whole thing to myself, but I'm not sure if that'll change." She glanced at the food in Max's hands and suddenly wished she'd gotten some for herself, but there'd be time later. "Which floor are you on?"

Food table - 7:30 - open

This was Lucas’s first event like this, but when he saw the announcement it was too good to pass up. It was a rare night that he wasn't working, and so rather than spend the night unpacking his apartment, he decided to go out and be social. The boxes would still be there, he had the whole weekend for that.

He entered the bar and took in the atmosphere, smiling around himself at the music and the somewhat Irish themed food. He got himself a pint of Guinness at the bar and then headed over to the food table, happy that at least the nights drinkers would have some food in their stomachs. He set his beer down and picked up one of the little sheppard's pies, nodding in approval at the first bite.

Isobel made herself a neat plate of kabobs, some cabbage, and one of the stout chocolate brownies. She accidentally bumped the man who was trying one of the shepard's pies.

"Oh, I'm sorry!" She gently put fingers on his upper arm as she took a step back, nearly bumping into someone else. "I don't know if it's that there's so many more people living in the apartment complex now, or that this place is smaller than the rec room, but I feel like I'm going to spill something on someone before much longer."

She bit a lip, and then carefully extended a hand toward the man, trying to be pleasant. "I'm Isobel, by the way. D3. When did you move in?"

Lucas laughed and put an arm out to steady the woman, "hey, don't worry about it, it's to be expected I a bar on St. Paddy's Day," he grinned.

"Lucas, 1003," he greeted, about to put out a hand, but one was holding beer and the other food. He shrugged and popped the last bite in his mouth. "I've been here less than a week, though I already feel super welcome."

Kate's eyebrows rose slightly as she walked into The Last Stop. The venue was certainly different from CASKET and the Pax rec room. Nevertheless she ordered a beer from the bar and made her way over to the food table. She saw Isobel speaking with Alice and a man she didn't know and was planning to make her way over once she got a plate, but then she saw a new face nearby.

"Hi! Are you the new tenant, Lucas, or just someone I haven't met yet?" she asked, picking up a plate and balancing it on top of her beer so she'd have a free hand to put food onto it. "I'm Kate, by the way."

at the bar - 8 p.m. - open

Brent had arrived late and already quite thoroughly drunk. His pupils were massively dilated, suggesting there was more at work in his system than simple alcohol. But he was clean, or what passed for it in Brent's estimation, and dressed in something other than scrubs for the first time in days. He perched himself atop a barstool and ordered a beer -- bottled, of course, well aware of what substances and foreign objects could find their way into a glass at a place such as this. He swayed slightly on the stool as he turned in place, observing the other patrons with a sharply arched brow.

"God damn those look good," he said, hooking his fingers into a bowl and dragging it over toward him. He dug into the gummy shamrocks as though they were the first things he'd eaten all day. With a hand full of the colorful gummies, he waved frantically toward BB, one of few faces he actually recognized. Small shamrocks flew through the air, bouncing off the bar top and skittering to the floor.

"Whoah there cowboy." Quick reflexes and old habits helped her grab a few of the green gummies out of the air and pop them in her mouth. Oh man these were dangerous, they hardly tasted like alcohol but were obviously alcoholic.

Raven sat herself at the bar beside the man, more than a little odd with his energy and messy appearance. But that was fine by her, who was she to judge someone for going against the norm, "These little shits are terrible for you, sneaks up on ya'." Didn't stop her from taking a few for herself though.

"Oh hey." Brent's eyes went wide, a perfect match to his pupils, his dark lashes fluttering. "Hey, yeah, but they're good, right? I could probably eat my weight in these things. I might try to." As though intent on proving his claim, he popped a few more gummies into his mouth. "I'm Brent. Your hair looks great. You do that yourself?"

the bar - 8:15 p.m. - Rafe

Brittany abandoned Alice.

It wasn't a surprise for the ginger, Brit normally got easily distracted and wandered off, particularly if alcohol or pot was involved. But it still sat awkwardly on Alice's shoulders as she realized she now had to field the room on her own.

Ten o'clock. I'll stay til ten then leave if I can. she promised herself as she returned to the bar for another one of the festive drinks. The first one was gone, the alcohol solidly having hold of her mind and body. Everything was comfortingly warm, her vision a tiny bit fuzzy, and Alice was eager for more of the drink.

Gripping the next drink, Alice took a deep sip as she slowly turned away from the bar and nearly walked directly into someone. "Oh my gosh," Alice replied, raising her drink high as to not allow any of the precious content to spill. "I'm sorr--"

Alice stopped, seeing who she had bumped to, and stared wide eyed. "Hi, Rafael," she whispered.

He beamed a bright smile down to her. He had lifted his own glass just in time, and only a single droplet of whiskey tracked down its side. He swept it up with the index finger of his free hand, sucking the liquor from his fingertip.

"Alice. It's good to see you again. I keep meaning to stop by in the mornings, but my hours have been a bit off lately. You're probably closed by the time I've been leaving the building..."

at the food table, 8:30 p.m. - max

BB's stomach growled, leading her back to the now picked-over food table. She grabbed a green paper plate and started to sort through the deeply Irish themed offerings, trying to decide on what sounded good and mostly ending up with more of the vodka-soaked gummies. She noted a familiar face by the snack table, which emblazoned a wide grin across her face.

"Maxie! Hey! I didn't even see you come in, all part of those Jane Bond skills, right?" She switched the plate to her other hand, using her now-free one to touch Max's shoulder. "Swanky party, amirite, though probably not the fanciest one you've ever been to. I don't know about you, but I definitely need something more to drink to wash all of this down."

Max’s eyes widened and she almost choked on her potato pie. “BB! Hey, I didn’t see you. Hey, did you try these? There’s like, meat and mashed potatoes and stuff. They’re amazing!” she held it up, her other hand cradling an almost full pint of dark beer, too dark to be tinted green. “The Irish have the best stuff.”

8:45ish, at a booth - open

This could be a good decision, or it could be a potentially terrible decision. Either way, Augustus was getting a free pass tonight on not getting pinched--thanks be to whichever of his birth parents had bestowed upon him the blessing of freckles. And sure, he might have found better ways to spend his Spring Break. But what could be more enjoyable than utilizing his upgraded license? The glaring under 21 message had been removed from it, and he didn't see why he shouldn't enjoy his new status.

He'd grabbed a couple of the little pies that were offered at the food table, and ordered a house beer. Settling himself in at a booth away from the main bar, he made his way through the first pie, passively people watching all the while. Surely he'd find an opening somewhere or another and join another group.

Or maybe not. Maybe he'd just eat his pie, drink his beer, and go back home for the night.

"Oh my god, Gusgus, why are you over here sulking in a corner?" BB had excused herself from her table with Max, gotten a fresh Sex on the Beach and was now clutching the orange drink as she slid into Augustus's booth. She kicked one of his feet under the table.

"Did you finish moving in? God, I wish you and mom and dad had given me some more notice! I could've, you know, helped." The black straw of her drink found its way into her mouth, her wide, bright eyes focused on her younger brother.

8:25 p.m., by the food table - Alice & Isobel
[info]freyr
2017-03-19 05:22 pm UTC (link)
Hand in hand -- with fresh drinks in their free ones -- Rafael and Alice made their way closer to the table overladen with food. Rafael set his drink down on a nearby booth's table, then set to work adding small samples of everything onto a plate. He smiled to Isobel, waving her over as he placed a shepherd's pie in the center of the plate. She had been mingling well, or seeming to, for the better part of the evening, but he felt he had earned a bit of time with his friend. She deserved a status report on the fish she had given him, after all. Between the liquor and the company Rafael had completely forgotten the fading bruises around his throat. He even whistled a jaunty tune as he placed a kebab on the side of his plate.

Following her strange interaction with Lucas, Isobel had stopped by the bar and grabbed a bottle of water before being waved at by Rafael, who was accompanied by Alice as they filled their own plates. She gratefully walked up to him, ready for banal discussion that didn't veer anywhere near biology.

"Hey!" She remarked softly, her smile mostly true and mostly unburdened. She held her condensation-riddled water bottle by one hand, her plate in the other. "How's Mr. Fishy doing?"
