Characters: All invited guests
Setting: The Chambers Home, Newport, Wales; Friday night (anywhere from 5pm onwards)
Rating: Probably in the PG-13 range
Summary: To celebrate a birthday/a dead mother/and a plan!

If this party had been simply a party then it might have been cancelled. However, when it came to the Chambers family nothing was simple because where was the fun in that? Not to mention as a basic practice there wasn't anything especially exciting or worth celebrating with birthdays. They always happened, marking a simple passage of time. However, if social norms dictated they be celebrated, then why not make actual use of them?

Of course then it had to be more complicated at the last minute, didn't it? Zacharias Smith had found it fit to gift them with a house elf yesterday who he didn't trust even as Taffy went on about the Griffiths family. And then there was the nanny who he didn't quite like the sight of, but he would deal with that if he needed to. Then there was the minor detail that Cecelia had been murdered adding another variable to the evening. At the first two had actually proven useful in helping to set up for the dinner, the nanny keeping Jason entertained and Taffy cleaning and preparing the meal.

Not that any of that mattered. No, this whole evening was engineered with the sole intent of finding the appropriate test subject. Surely, there were ethics against that sort of thing, but Eli was generally under the impression that ethics were created to protect men who were too afraid to take the leap and do what had to be done.

Tonight what had to be done involved abusing a friendship he had since Hogwarts, but it was not without cause. Eli needed to know how this worked, he needed as much data as possible on the magic being used around Pandora's memories if ever hoped to not only create a working theory, but actually find application. Glancing at the clock in his study, he saw it was quickly approaching five o'clock and he needed to be finished before then in case anyone had the audacity to arrive early.

So, he put away his work, carefully transferring his recreated Pandora memory into a vial and onto his person for later use before reestablishing the wards on this room to ensure it remained out of bounds. It wouldn't do to have people messing with his things - although then there would be another reason to have to kill them and he was going to have to talk to Samara about that idea - although perhaps later. Right now, he needed to switch into something more like a personable mode so he could get through the niceties and actually have the space needed for the real work.

Samara rubbed her thumb over the cork of the vial and looked into his face as he mentioned Roger. She knew offhand that Astoria was having the nightmares so she was not a viable option nor was Theodore and while she knew Agatha was not having them, Kinjal she still was uncertain of which meant she was not a good option to consider. Roger did seem like a good option though, seeing as he was around them quite often and could be monitored both in person and now by their house elf if need be. Eli still didn't seem to trust Taffy but Samara was finding him to be quite useful in most ways. "I think he would do quite nicely then," she agreed. Since Eli had obviously already done some work with Roger's memories that made things better for them anyway.

She raised her eyebrows for a moment and then shrugged. "I suppose that would be the ideal scenario, wouldn't it? Though in reality I like my head the way it is. Yours is too busy for my taste." Samara had enough going on in her head without trying to deal with the way Eli processed things, which she had got used to, but would never do so herself.

"So do you want to decide who does it now or leave it to whoever has the best opportunity with him?" It might just come down to whoever Roger ends up spending the most time with. While it was her party and Roger had become one of her friends too (seeing as Eli and Samara really came as sort of a package deal or no deal at all once they had started to date) that didn't mean he wouldn't be spending a good deal of time with Eli to get away from the women. Well actually, that wasn't right - he would want to be with the women, but not necessarily the married one.

"I might have even gone ahead and tailored the memory for easier delivery for Roger assuming that he was our best option." Eli was ever a man of doing and seeking forgiveness later, if at all. Otherwise other people just seemed to muck up the works. It was better this way even sometimes with Samara, but she certainly knew the most of what he did and what he was planning. And the idea of her knowing everything, while it would take some the mystery away, certainly could be helpful.

"Mostly it will be a matter of being close enough and just removing the top." Of course there were things that would go wrong and that was where their variety of skills in regards to memory could come into play. Would the memory need to be smoothed over and require the steady hand of an obliviator even one a few years of practice or would it need the scientist who tinkered.

"One of us would still need to hold onto it until the time comes, so I suppose the question really is, do you feel lucky tonight Mrs Chambers?" Not that this would have much to do with luck or even that he believed in it at all because truly it was all about planning. Eli had done his part in recreating the memory, and to some extent he trusted her more to place it better than he might.

Samara should have known that Eli had already taken measures toward securing Roger as a subject, even without having settled things with her. Not that she minded, it was just something she was only just now being told, five minutes before guests could be arriving at any time in true Eli fashion. "Of course you did," she replied and ran her hand down his arm in a gesture that could only say that she was glad she had him to support her.

She nodded. It seemed simple enough, but there was always the possibility that something could go wrong so they needed to be certain that Roger was not somewhere where they could be overheard or seen. When he asked if she felt lucky, she only rolled her eyes in response. She held the vial out for him to take. "Let's consider the places that I have in this outfit to hide that vial and where I'd have to be sticking my hand to retrieve and reconsider who's better suited to be holding onto the memory until the right time arrives, Mr. Chambers." Samara raised her eyebrows questioningly at him, pulling her arm back. "Unless you are suddenly okay with your mate watching me pull things from between my breasts." She gave him a wicked grin.

Smirking at her, he leaned in for a kiss. With the kiss as a distraction, he carefully took the vial from her hand. Samara had presented him with an interesting test and he was nothing if not thorough, especially when two of his passions could be mixed together. Eli pulled back from the kiss, taking out his wand in the same motion to levitate the vial in between her breasts in the proposed hiding place. They did seem to hide it well enough, but it was an issue of extraction.

He sat there for a moment, contemplating the situation in front of him. "I think I am the only one who should be allowed to stick my hand down your dress to retrieve anything. In fact, I propose that from this point forward that hold true unless it is absolutely necessary to complete a significant task at hand." That seemed fair and respected who they were, which were people willing to do just about anything to reach an end as long as it was a worthwhile end.

Glancing at his watch he supposed they still had a few minutes to spare. The worst case their guests would think they were having sex and that wasn't so bad. He stood back up, moving around to her back once more because that gave him the better angle. "And I do think I need further data on exactly how difficult the vial extraction from this location would be." Eli wrapped an arm around her shoulders, fingers resting ever so lightly on her collarbone as he titled his head to kiss her neck just above that point. "How likely would it be that any of our friends are foolish enough to arrive early?"

Samara considered swatting him away because really they shouldn't be doing this, but it was a hard thing to do when one was excited about the prospects of the evening and well, not particularly interested in giving up quite yet.

She watched him through the mirror with a bemused expression, and despite what he'd said earlier about there not being enough time, he seemed to be causing trouble for them anyhow. She was already teeming with energy and if he didn't sodding quite then it would be his fault that she was late to her own birthday party. Not that she would really mind overly much. "I suppose you should get on that then as we all know what happens when Eli is kept from his experiments. I believe the extraction needs to be done with your mouth or else it just is not going to work properly. I'm sorry, these are just the facts, love."

"There is always the solution of just not letting them in," she replied and reached her hand up to run her fingers through the hair on the back of his head.

"Such demands," he said with a smile. This definitely a preferable way to deal with some of that energy he had radiating off him. After all, he needed to be mostly behaved in front of their friends. However, right now was fair game. "But I suppose you the guest of the night and your wish is my command."

With one last swish of his wand he closed the bedroom door, locking it so that they would not be disturbed. He reached around, trailing kisses down to her collarbone now. Her demand would make the extraction a bit more difficult, but not impossible and certainly a great deal more fun. And as Eli was nothing but thorough, they were going to late. Only he really couldn't be bothered to care. He might not like having either the nanny or Taffy in his home, but surely they could entertain the guests for a little while.
