Supernatural

The supernatural in Pala is based on ritualistic witchcraft. It's not about shooting fireballs, teleporting, etc. Characters may have supernatural gifts, but for the most part, magic should be ritualistic and subtle.

The islands have a long history of witchcraft, dating back to the first explorers that touched on its shores. Some would claim that they gained their power from the islands, not vice-versa. Rumors of ritual sacrifice, even of humans, have plagued the islands for quite some time. Stories of ghosts haunting places with weird or dark histories abound, and it isn't uncommon for reports of strange happenings to surface every now and then.

So, I won't specifically put a limit on supernatural abilities. Each submission will be considered on an individual basis. I will, however, put a limit on supernatural creatures, which may or may not change in the future. No vampires or werewolves at this time, or demons, etc, etc. All characters must be human.

Rules regarding magic:

- ask before you use it against someone else
- characters do not want everyone knowing what they can do, so no flashing it around
- the last things the islanders want to do is scare away the tourists, because they bring in all the money, so be careful not to frighten them too much
- using it as a means to metagame will not be tolerated

The Baptiste Family

One example of current magic is the Baptiste Family. Many of its members have an inborn talent. Charlotte Baptiste can sense and communicate with the dead. Christoph can manipulate darkness and light when he gets emotional. Beyond this, the Baptiste family has a Grimoire of spells and rituals that they can draw from in some situations. There are also some disgusting rumors of sacrifice and dark magic used to keep the family wealthy and powerful, but these are superstitious lies conjured by envious minds… ahem…
