The Islands

There are 34 islands in Pala, separated by Major, Minor, and then small islands, most of which are private or for sale. I have supplied some locations and points of interest for players to start from, but if you wish to add a location, take an island for one of your characters, or even possibly add a new island onto the map, then make a post in the request thread and it will be considered!

Here is a large, detailed map of the islands with some points of interest. You can click on some areas to see pictures of what they look like. Many areas and features have been left blank. If you would like to create a location recognized by the whole chat, then put in a location request and I will add it to the map when I have time!

Empyrean Island

Points of Interest
- Gatestown
- Kaboo Nightclub
- Crescent Lake
- Celestial Cavern
- Empyrean Jewel
- Diable and Rainbow Falls
- The Dew Drop

The largest and most populated island, Empyrean is home to the only major township of the islands: Gatestown. The rest of Empyrean is hills, farmland, resorts, and beaches. There is a small lake up in the hills toward the island's southern end, but because of the slope of the hills, the small river flowing from the lake moves down the length of the island toward the north, and through Gatestown before reaching the sea.

The highest point of Empyrean is 320 meters, or 1,050 feet. Gatestown has a small airport, a harbor, and an old port that is mostly bars, restaurants, and tourists shops now, since the islands are no longer major suppliers of sugar cane or tobacco.

The hills are great for exploring, providing beautiful vistas, challenging hikes, and adventure. There are many caves on the islands, abundant wildlife, and lush waterfalls and streams caused by the almost daily rainstorm.

Most of the nightlife in Pala is in Gatestown, which hosts many restaurants, nightclubs, bars, and other entertainment. The rest of the island also has many resorts, such as the Empyrean Jewel, a five-star hotel at the island's southern tip, owned by the Baptiste family.

Arcadia Island

Points of Interest
- Enigma Bay
- Bantam Lagoon
- Utopia Resort & Spa
- Septentrion & Austral Bay

The most popular island for those wanting to get away from an urban environment. Unlike Empyrean Island, there is no large town like Gatestown on Arcadia Island. It is made up entirely of small resorts, fishing communities, and long, gorgeous beaches. There are trails into the hills, as well as an abundance of waterfalls, lush tropical forest, and freshwater pools caused by frequent rain.

The bays are popular wave-running and jet-skiing spots, and are usually dotted with the white triangles of sailboats. Arcadia Island is where the Arcadian Fox originated, though they have been spread out to the other islands, but in much smaller numbers. It is currently an endangered species, with conservation efforts still under way.

Some of the more popular sites of Arcadia are: Enigma Bay, a small bay accessible only by boat. The small beach in the bay is surrounded by cliffs, locking it off from the rest of the island. Bantam Lagoon boasts a 40 foot waterfall, which is a popular jumping spot, despite being prohibited. Utopia Resort and Spa is a clothing-optional resort, and even includes its own private beach and small cove. The small strip of land between the Septentrion and Austral bays hosts popular beach spots and a few resorts, while the bays themselves are popular for fishing and diving further out from shore.

Little Eden

Nearly 25km long, and only 10km at its widest, Little Eden is a haven for wildlife and beauty, but off limits to tourists and citizens. The only people allowed on Little Eden are the people protecting it, and even they avoid its shores. Most of Little Eden's shores are actually jagged cliff-sides, jotted by a few small beaches. The interior of the island is only accessible by entering into Paradise Bay through the narrow gap in the cliffs, which is constantly monitored by island authorities.

There is an underwater cave system leading into the Star Lagoon (so named because it's calm enough to reflect the night sky), but it takes either luck or swimming gear to navigate them into the lagoon. Little Eden has been closed off to the public since the 1950s, but people often try to sneak onto the island.

Because of its inaccessibility, many rumors about the island have surfaced (marijuana farms, sacrificial rituals, pagan societies, etc). None of them have ever been proven, but the locals like to freak tourists out with the local legends.

One frightening fact is that out of all the shark attacks that have happened, the most frequent happen around Little Eden. This may be because of The Follies, which reside in shallow waters and have many coral reefs abundant with sea life, making them popular hunting grounds for predators. The last time anyone tried to swim to Little Eden was in 1998. They were a fifteen year old girl and boy and they only found the boy's life jacket with his left arm still attached to it.

(IC Note: Any player that has a character that attempts to go to Little Eden should know that they forfeit control of that character's fate.)

Acheron Island

For the true adventurer, the one who doesn't mind a little bit of danger mixed with their leisure, then Acheron Island is a must. It was one of the few islands to not be named with a heavenly word, but instead after the river that forms the border of Hell. The reason? There are only a couple of beaches near Acheron, but you have to get past the jagged rocks and reefs that protect it.

The island is also a major egg-laying ground for the Pala Sea Snake, which is extremely venomous, and once a year, they all hatch over a week-long period, and on their way out to see, the island crawls with them. The snake isn't the only reptile on the island. It's also a popular spot for turtles and iguanas, too.

Out of all the other islands, the it has the most treacherous plant-life, too. Lantana, which produces dark-colored berries starting in September, is actually fatal if eaten. There is also cowitch, a vine-line plant will cause skin rashes and blindness if it comes in contact with the eyes.

But, the island is very beautiful. It receives the most rainfall out of the other islands for some reason, so streams are always plentiful, waterfalls are always flowing. The island is mostly limestone, so there are plenty of caves to explore, both above ground and underwater. Just make sure the one you go into isn't a snake-pit...

Elysium Island

Arcadia has resorts, Empyrean has an urban environment, and Acheron has adventure. Elysium is for those who just really want to relax. It's shores are lined with over-water bungalows, and the interior of the island has a few sugar cane farms. There are no predatory animals on the island, so colorful tropical birds flourish.

Jet-skiis and recreational boats are asked to keep three kilometers away from the shore so that people can enjoy the serenity the island offers. It's a popular honeymooning location, offering privacy and quiet to its guests.
