New Alliance - OOC

Hi everyone! I'm Chevalle and I am bringing in Miss Zatanna Zatara of DC fame. Recently made the leader of the Justice League Dark in the New 52 canon, Zatanna's always had a penchant for dealing with Weird Things (read: occult) that the JLA need help with. In the New Alliance universe, Zatanna is homo superior with a mutation that mirrors her homo magi abilities in DC canon. For some reason, she must focus her abilities through a curious mnemonic incantation: she has to say words backward in order to use her ability. To most people, this sounds like unintelligible gibberish.

Zatanna was born and raised at Shadowcrest, her family's estate in Gotham. When she turned eighteen, she hightailed it to New York to get away from daddy and tried to make it on Broadway. In New York, she met Nick Necro and John Constantine. Cue love triangle, jealousy, kidnap, and murder. John and Zee made it out and Zee discovered her powers. After reconnecting with her father, Zatanna also discovered that Giovanni Zatara was a hunter of Things-That-Go-Bumpeth. While attempting to help him on a mission, Constantine got Giovanni killed and Zatanna never forgave him. She returned to Gotham and took up her father's act. Now arguably the most famous illusionist in the country, the "Princess of Prestidigitation" runs a successful cabaret theatre in Gotham. She also honors her father's legacy by continuing his fight against Things-That-Go-Bumpeth.

I would definitely be interested in exploring some of the canon relationships that Zatanna has as a springboard for plot. As another wealthy Gotham family, the Zataras easily rubbed elbows with the Waynes (Zatanna and Bruce are also around the same age), so they could be familiar with each other from childhood! I know in some canon, Giovanni tutored Bruce as an escape artist but that is totally up to Batman's player! Also, Zatanna has some canon with Black Canary (Bloodspell is the best graphic novel I've read in years!), so maybe we can explore that friendship! Beyond that, I am down for ALL THE THINGS. Meeting up with other "magic" users would be awesome. Friends, peers, enemies, former beaus, anything! Right now, Zatanna is a Solo Act in the world of heroism, so an organization trying to recruit her unique talents would be awesome plot material.

As for me, I just got home from a tour of Les Miserables so I am finally getting my feet planted back into the Internets.
