RP: Savannah and April
Who: Savannah and April
Where: April's
When: Monday, May 13, 2013
Summary: They catch up before everyone else arrive

They went to Kentucky and picked everyone up without too much trouble. Savannah had hesitated about the pick up truck they owned. It wasn't something that they could use in the future, but she supposed that it would be more suspicious to just leave it at the airport. They could dispose of it at home.

The flight home was smooth as well. They used the boat to the marina, while Robert teleported the pick up truck, and then one of the military trucks as per Brian's request. Traveling back home was relatively fast since they hit the later part of rush hour, and they were home that it was just past eight in the evening after grabbing some food at a In N Out.

She showed them where each of them was going to be staying and while Eliot helped Nate settle down into his new house, Savannah stayed with April and Eve at Vance's house. "I'm glad you're back," she said, smiling. "I know it's not what you guys wanted, but... I hope you can find a place with us, no matter where we end up and if not... I guess you can always settled in some other dimension."

"Of course I'm a alive... oh that," she said, remembering that she had died. "Accounts of my death were greatly exaggerated," she added, chuckling. "Really, I'm tough, and no one can get rid of me that easily. Who's going to hug everyone?"

Savannah shrugged. "I don't see why not. We do have a lot of new people, people who don't know you, don't have any baggage, and really, everyone here is willing to give people a second chance." Maybe not Marty, but there were people who didn't care enough to hold a grudge.

Sighing, she went to the couch and sat down. "I'm... getting ready for what's to come. It's not going to be easy. All four leads have disappeared. Marty is in charge. Derek is his second. Everything goes through Derek, but the amount of work is still crazy, and with three kids in the house, it's not always easy. Jenna and Eric died. We're full of people who aren't properly trained and getting ready to go into a prehistoric dimension to find the missing people. I guess we're all getting ready for the excitement."

April chuckled. "That's true, this group is lost without you. That I've seen for myself. They need you to remind them that they're still human," she added with a smile.

She bit her tongue at the second chance part, settling for smiling. She didn't have the same optimistic views on things. "How many new people have arrived?" she asked. "What are they like?"

When she mentioned Jenna and Eric she nodded. "I gathered that they did from the photos you sent," April said softly. She had never been close with the woman, never truly understood her, but she knew Eliot liked her and she knew how much she'd meant to Savannah. "I'm sorry, I know Jenna meant a lot to you. How is Dom and Sean holding up? Does Sam know?" She looked at Eve. She couldn't begin to imagine how horrid it would be to lose her daughter.

"I can't wait to meet your son, by the way," she said. "How did the delivery go? I'm glad you didn't tell me sooner in a way, I would have worried sick about not being able to be there for you. Not that I needed to do much with the girls."

"They wouldn't, not anymore. They are a real team. We are a real team. I help, but it's different now. A lot of civilians, a lot of families, and a military training that helps everyone get close. You've seen the island. We worked together, we cooked together, we ate outdoors together. We do everything together." Savannah smiled. "They'd do fine without me. They have each other."

She mentally counted. "We have eight new people. You've met two. Most of them are civilians. We did get an FBI agent, but that's about it. Douglas, Thomas and Travis have returned."

Savannah got up and turned on the TV, before sitting back down. She shook her head. "No, Sam doesn't know. They have been missing since late December. That's when Travis and the twins have returned. They are in a different dimension. Rifts are opening and taking people from here to there. No more swaps. Jenna and Eric fell through a rift and died. Derek saw it. A giant sea dinosaur ate them. That's where Sam and the rest are, that's where we're going, and training has been... interesting."

The smile was immediate as she thought of Jamie. "His name is Jamie Ray, after Thomas James Hammond and a dear friend of Marty. You know the earthquake in March? We were in the car and the highway collapsed. That's how Nick died. We were stuck on a ledge and that's where I delivered him. Thomas was...he was great, especially since he was injured, too."

"So does your family but they were still lost without you," April said. "You're more important than you think."

"Eight? That's a lot. So who are they?" If anyone could give her more than the obvious name and what they did back home it was Savannah.

"Dinosaur?" April asked. "That's what we're going into?" Now that didn't sound risky at all, did it? Was she doing the right thing, bringing Eve into that? Then again if people were being thrust in there... well then it didn't matter where she was, Eve still wouldn't be safe.

"I heard about the earthquake on the news, but of course I had no clue you were here. Did anyone other than Nick die?"

"So Thomas delivered him? Did you both get looked at afterwards? I understood that you have a new doctor or researcher or something? You could get medical attention, right?"

"I can't believe we have children the same age," she then said with a laugh. "Is he mostly like mummy or daddy?" she asked, not mentioning the powers needlessly while still asking.

"My family is spread across dimension, April. They are surviving without me as we speak." They'd better, because Savannah was not going to stop until they found them. "You're always overestimated me. The strength of my family is that we rely on each other. There's always someone to step in when someone can't carry on anymore. We lost Jenna, but now there's Tamira. She's Sean's mother. She just arrived, but... she's family."

It was easier to give reports than think about Sam and G, or even Derek and Emily. They had become family too. "Okay, so you've met Oliver and Tommy. They are both filthy rich and from the Hammonds' dimension. They knew each other back home, because of the campaign. Maura is the doctor. She's from their same dimension. She was youngest Chief Medical Officer there She know.... everything. She's like Sheldon, in away. she married Doug. They are the ones who arrived before the leads disappeared. Afterwards, there was Tamira, obviously. Helena comes from Claudia's dimension. She was an agent there. There's Mike, who's the FBI agent and a member of the BAU. Second youngest member after Reid. Brian who was LAPD, but he left a while ago. Finally Matt, he was a fireman in Chicago. I can't say I know them that well. There's been so much to do and they haven't been here long enugh."

Savannah nodded. "Dinosaurs, or you know something like that. Derek is hardly the expert, but something close to that. I guess we'll see when we get there." She smiled. "We wouldn't want things to get too boring, right?"

She shook her head. "Just Nick. We were the last car out fortunately, and two teams were out on mission. The houses here only had minor problems. Electricity is still on and off. Same with the phone and the I 5 is still being repaired, but at least no one else got hurt." She smiled. "Yes, Thomas delivered him. It was an interesting night, that's for sure, and yes, Maura checked us out, both that night and before going back to work, not that there was any need. You know me. I bounce back easily."

Chuckling, Savannah nodded. "We do, except I have three of them. They outnumber us already," she said laughing. "I don't know yet. He sleeps and eats. We'll see, I guess."

"I'm happy for Sean's sake that he got his mother back. It must make it easier to deal with the loss of his sister."

Busy or not, April was still surprised when Savannah said she didn't know these people yet. Savannah was always the one to make knowing people a priority. "I'm glad you got another doctor here," she said. "That was one of the parts about leaving that I hated. I felt like I was abandoning all of you, even if the decision was right for us."

She smiled at the comment about too boring. "No, we wouldn't want that." She wondered how easily you could make a dinosaur who threatened your child implode.

"You do, I learned that about the same time that you did," she said with a smile. When Savannah answered, she didn't listen to the words, but to what wasn't being said. The twins had changed their form before they were even born, which told her that Jamie Ray was more likely to have his father's power than his mother's.

"Jamie Ray is a nice name," she said with a smile. "I can't wait to see him."

"I'm sure he's happy to have her around, but I doubt it can make up for losing Jenna. Or Sam. Or G." She shook her head. She had given April plenty of openings, but not once had she asked about the missing people while she was asking about people she didn't know. "You know, you talk about people not wanting you here and not fitting in, but not once you've asked about them. I get that you don't like Sam, but G has done nothing wrong and I thought you were friends with Derek and Emily. And even if you hate all four of them, it would have been nice to hear you mention them at least one, because that is Sean's family, but it's also mine and it would be nice if you could take five minutes from the third degree to acknowledge that G, the man who is like a father to me, is missing."

She didn't explain about Maura, or the problem understanding each other. That was private, just like she wouldn't share with others what she discusses with April. Instead she focused on the rest. "Was it right? Because I don't see it. You are back here, according to you with people who don't like you, certainly with plenty of people who don't know you and therefore don't care as much as they would for friends, with less training, less time to prepare. I'm not sure how it was right for you."

Jamie's power didn't interest her as much. It worried her, but it certainly didn't interest her. "Liam scared us a lot later and Sean and Jenna were different from Sam, so who knows? Maybe he'll surprise us. It doesn't matter anyway. We will deal with whatever comes."

"Oh, Savannah, I'm sorry," April said, reaching out and touching her friend's hand. "It's not that I don't care, never think that, I just didn't want to pry and push you on a matter so personal. I figured if you were ready, or willing, to talk about it you would."

"I'm sorry, I should have asked beyond asking how you are."

April thought about the question, and she could see the downsides, but she couldn't regret the decision. Living on their own, seeing what life could be like in a world where they could live in peace. "Would we have left if we knew this would be the result? No, there would be no point. Knowing what we did then, believing what we did then, we made the decision that was best for our family. I can't and won't regret the last few months of our lives. I can just make the best of the situation now."

April was confused for a moment, but then smiled when she realised where Savannah's head was. "I meant you bouncing back, but I suppose it applies to both. You're right though, it doesn't really matter."

"You didn't have to pry. A simple sorry would have done. Or acknowledging that Sean was missing Jenna, but also Sam and G. The rest-" She shrugged. "There isn't much to talk about. They are gone. The most important people in this team are gone and we must get ready to find them. We're not stopping until we do find them. No man let behind."

She looked at April sadly. She had wanted them back so badly, even argued with Marty about her and Eliot, but she could hear in her words how wrong this was, not for the team, but for April. She wondered if April even heard what she was saying. "I missed you, but... I'm sorry you're here. You really hate it here. You hate it so much that you can't even see that you have a second chance with so many new people. You wouldn't have reacted like this at the beginning. You would have loved to talk to so many people, but now you sound like you already miss where you were."

Savannah chuckled. "Oh that. Well, yes, we learned together. I have to say that I don't mind missing on the bleeding for weeks after a natural birth. It makes bouncing in any direction much less gross."

"I am sorry, Savannah. I know how much you love them. I also know how determined you are, and I know in my heart you'll find them." If they were still alive. With Jenna there was no finding her. She was just gone.

"I don't hate it here," April assured her. "Is it my first choice? No. Would I rather raise Eve in a place without the guns and the risks and the constant moving? Yes. But I don't hate it, and I'm glad to have you in my life again."

"Give me some time. I wasn't very happy when I first arrived here, not until I started feeling like this could be home. Now I need to get used to that idea again, to this kind of life again."

"And to the idea that I won't be spending my days with her any longer," she said looking at her daughter. Now that was an idea she truly loathed. She liked having her daughter close, and though she tried not to think about it she knew that Robert would most likely be babysitting her at least once a week. Would he treat her differently because she was hers? She wished she trusted him to be a better man than that, but truth was she didn't.

That part was best not mentioned to Savannah, however. Instead she just continued. "I never pictured myself as a mum, especially a stay-at-home mum, but- Well life change, doesn't it? This is just another change, but I do need to wrap my head around it."

She did laugh a bit at the comment about bleeding for weeks. "I promise you didn't miss out on anything by skipping that part," she said. "I wish I could have skipped that."

"I'm not the only one," she said, with a sigh. "Vance won't stop until we find them. He doesn't leave people behind." In the end, it was only Vance's conviction that was taking them there, because there was no other reason to try something so dangerous. They could map a way home and be done.

"Life is strange. I was the one who didn't want this life, who hated the guns, who wanted nothing but to stay at home with m children, while my husband went to work, and now." She looked at Eve, smiling. She was a beautiful baby, just like her Jamie, and yet, she couldn't imagine wanting to stay home with him all day. "I don't think I could go back to that life even if I had the chance. I like the guns. I like knowing that I can protect my family. I like being in the middle of the action, because I can do a lot more good there, than staying home. I love my children, and we're teaching them as much as we can, considering their ages, but staying home with Jamie all day long to watch him sleep?" She shook her head. "I'd rather be with my team, honing my skills, learning new ones, knowing that I can step up and protect them."

Savannah chuckled. "I think people's heads would explode if they heard me say it. Everyone always assumed that if we went back, I'd be happy to stay home and let the rest of the family go back to work. So yes, life changes. We change. The only difference is that we don't get much of a choice around here. We do what we must, and we protect our families. I'm sure you'll be fine."
