Setting: New York City, late evening
Content: Nothing
Summary: Cassie meets this 'verse's Mr. Stark
"All right, Cassie, see you tomorrow!" the manager called out and Cassie gave a half hearted wave as she stepped out into the dark street and zipped up her hoodie. It was chilly out so she pulled up her hood and hoped she'd be left alone on her walk home. Some of the streetlights were out and she was always just a little uneasy at the shadows of the alley ways. She'd spent her first night in New York City sleeping in an alley. It hadn't been pleasant. At least now she had a proper place to stay- if you could call the rat trap motel she'd been living in "proper." So New York City wasn't quite as kind as France had been, she still liked the independence. The area she was staying in and worked in was so impoverished that no one seemed to question a teenager living on her own. Getting a waitressing job had been surprisingly easy and with the money she'd saved up in France she was able to pay for her motel over the past two weeks. The Scarlet Witch had offered her a place to stay but Cassie refused- she didn't care if this wasn't the Scarlet Witch. That didn't change the fact that her father was dead. Cassie thought of him a lot and wondered if maybe in this universe he was alive. It was a long shot and even if he were here it wasn't like he would know her, but she still foolishly hoped.
Her thoughts drifted to her father as her walk continued and she pointedly ignored the insults and cat calls from a group of boys gathered on a doorstep. She paused only to buy a quick dinner from a street vendor and continued on her way. Up ahead a crowd was gathering and, since she couldn't get through the mass she paused to see what the problem was. The peoples' faces were upturned so Cassie followed their gaze to see a man silhouetted by lights above. Police were yelling at him through a loud speaker but apparently he was intent on jumping. Cassie had only been in the group for a few minutes when the man followed through with his threat. She watched in horror as he plummeted.
