One of grand cities and remote villages with hard travel between, but the cities are little like this one. We possess nothing such as these devices. There's fire for light an warmth, for cooking. Travel is by foot or horseback. Once, the Aes Sedai used the One Power to travel quickly across great distance, but it's a skill all but lost and one I never had the fortune to learn.

This is a most unexpected place.

	The few men born with the ability inevitably succumb to madness and eventually die. If discovered, they may be gentled, their ability to touch the Source cut off, but many would claim that a fate worse than death. It is better for them if they cannot use the Power at all. There are few species in my world, and none but humans use the Power. Once, it is said, Aes Sedai were risen of both men and women who could channel and that the greatest feats were achieved when they worked together. But the world has changed.

When a woman touches the Source, she draws on saidar, which is still safe to use. A man must draw on saidin, tainted by the Dark One's touch.
