Week 38: Toon Town | Day 2
Well, this is certainly interesting. (Of course, being a horse was also interesting.) It's nice being able to see the sun as a human. I must say, the jacket is not a bad touch. At least the rest of the clothes aren't too bad.

The Terminal Station Bar reminds me of some of the dives we'd go to in San Francisco when we were cadets.

Since we're in Southern California, I was thinking of taking a trip out to the Mojave. It's only a few hours drive and I thought it might be nice to get out of the city for a day or two. (And I confess, I want to see what the stars out there look like in this time. I asked around and there's a handful of motels out there if folks aren't interested in sleeping under the stars. Anyone interested?

Bucky

I believe I owe you a drink. Or at least, I promised drinks and stories. Still up for it?

Yelena
I'm glad you're better. (Is that the right word?) Hopefully it wasn't too painful.

I don't know if that's better or worse? I don't hate pressing pause on my timeline back home, but it's somewhat disorienting to know we could spend a year here and nothing back home.

What does your brain like?

Oh, the ocean... that would be fun. How do you feel about surfing? Mostly just bars and this nice little bakery. But planning to take a field trip into the desert and maybe the mountains later this week. Interested?

Yeeeeeah, I try not to think much about it because being here at all is enough for me. If I end up back where I came from I guess I deal with it then. If we even remember being here? I kind of haven't asked about that part. Maybe nobody knows.

Not science. I mean I do like knowing things, but I let the people smarter than I am figure out how it all works and they can tell me the pieces I need to know. Other than that, I think I'm still figuring out what my brain likes. I haven't had a lot of time to find out yet.

I feel like I've never been surfing but it could be fun? Do you know how? And I might have to see about the field trip. This place is crazy but I think sometimes we end up in a place I want to have more time because there's too much to do and only seven days for doing it.

Well, at least you have some time here to figure out what you like.

I know how, but I wouldn't say I'm particularly good at it. I'd be happy to teach you what I know.

I'll probably go towards the end of the week. And you're more than welcome to come along. There should be some hiking and star gazing and maybe horseback riding if I can manage to arrange it.

It seems like it's one of the perks of being here. It's weird otherwise, not having anything I should be doing. I'm not so used to not having a mission.

You don't have to be good, and if we don't get a chance this week then I take you up on it next time there's a chance for surfing. If I learn a little, you get better, and we keep each other from drowning? Success.

It sounds like it could be fun. And s'mores, I always wanted a s'more. I only have one thing I really have plans to be doing, so I should be able to come!

I can understand that. I'm not very good at time off from Starfleet. It's easier when I have a mission. Something to focus on.

Sounds like a plan. I apologize in advance for any saltwater you might swallow.

S'mores are divine. Especially if you perfectly roast the marshmallow.

Yeah, exactly this. I don't know what to do when I'm not focused because it seems like there's too much to choose from. I guess I should get used to it.

I think if I swallow salt water it's my fault for falling with my mouth open, so I can only blame me. But maybe remind me one time not to yell when I fall, that could help.

Well now I have to come.

Maybe we just need to make our own missions?

I'll do that.

Excellent.
