Who: William Shakespeare an Anastasia
When: Friday Afternoon
What: Meetings and greetings and finding out truths
Where: Outdoor screening of 'Taming of the Shrew' with Elizabeth Taylor, in the Park

There was one joy in being the most revered author, playwright and poet of the English language, was seeing how much the world rinsed and reused his work for their own modern adaptions. It was also a curse upon him! It was that very intent to keep his work alive that had him too stretched thin to ever create something worthwhile again (until now!). That curse was also what allowed him to draw breath, even on this very night. He wasn't a fool!

With his bag strapped across his chest, and a blanket for the cold night air that may approach, he eyed his seat. He'd seen it from a distance, the perfect spot for viewing. Elizabeth Taylor would always been one of his favorites, with her gorgeous violet eyes and dark hair. He had never thought he'd see his Katherine so perfectly portrayed as that beautiful, violent angel. Liz had been quite divine.

He stalked over to his seat and found it taken! Oh the horror! He stood there for what felt like ten agonizing years just staring down at the being that had decided to steal such a perfect seat!

Even with how busy the city could get, Anastasia was glad that there were still events that allowed her to slow down. With classes officially finished and grades all updated, she was completely finished with her semester. It always felt so wonderful to be finished, even if she did love teaching. There was only so much she could take before it became exhausting. She could only read so many poorly written papers before she wanted to pull out her hair.

So being able to have a free afternoon to herself without having to worry about grading papers or exams was freeing. She had set out a blanket in the grass, her legs outstretched as she leaned back and waited for the movie to begin.

At first she ignored whoever it was that had decided to stop right next to her and simply stand there. But after several seconds she felt like there were eyes watching her, so she turned just enough to look up. "Oh!" she sat, crossing her legs in the process. "Hello, Professor Stratford," she said with a smile. "Have you come to watch The Taming of the Shrew, or are you just passing through?"

She was such a friendly and familiar little thing. He turned to look at her, his expression changing from annoyed to pleased. "Anastasia," it was such a luxurious name. It had power! Presence! "I have come my dear to watch this amazing rendition. Who does not adore the late Elizabeth?" He pointed down to her blanket. "This was to be my seat, but I fear it's been taken. I shan't take it from you." He was hoping the girl would offer him the other half of the blanket.

Ana had gotten to know many of her fellow English professors, considering they were confined to their building and it was difficult not to see them on a regular basis. It wasn't surprising to her to run into one of them while out, and every now and then she would bump into someone at the store. It was usually a pleasant surprise. She smiled broadly and nodded, "She's a missed treasure, that's for sure." She moved over so that there was enough room for another person to sit. "Why don't you have a seat then? I can spare some room," she offered.

"Only if you insist," and he did just that, taking a seat and put his own blanket to the side. If it got cold, he'd obviously make good use of it. He projected his hands out towards the giant screen so far in front of them. "It's perfection. The best seat in the house."

Ana motioned for him to sit down just as he did so. He really was rather charismatic and theatrical. She imagined what he was like at home by himself, assuming he lived alone. She realized she didn't know much about him outside of work. She nodded in agreement, "Absolutely. The very reason I chose it."

"A woman with my own heart!" He smiled and put his arms down. He had no idea how much alike they possibly were, he knew little of her other than her extraordinary name. "Why, is such a stunning creature like yourself out here by yourself?"

Ana leaned back again and looked out at the huge screen, watching as the workers prepared for the big event. She wrinkled her nose the way her mother did and tilted her back and forth as she looked around. "No students. Well, I should say none of my students as far as I can tell." It was a relief to get away from them for a time. And she had the whole summer to run into them before the fall semester started.

"Oh they can be exasperating!" He paused, "Except for one of my newest. He is the character, and has given me so much inspiration." The man looked positively giddy at the thoughts and ideas that Greed had already ignited. "But this night, this film, it is a treat away from school and tired hours behind those four walls." He grinned and leaned back to enjoy the view. The film still had time before it began, so he decided to get to know this lovely creature.

"Who is Anastasia? I need more than just a big, powerful name. Tell me about her," he asked with an almost flirtatious grin.

Ana chuckled at that and nodded in agreement. "You're absolutely right. It gets exhausting listening to them complain. I try to be understanding, but there's so much fake interest to pass around," she said with a sour look. "Good for you. It's always nice to find someone who inspires you."

"Well," she started, not wanting to delve too deeply into her personal life because she liked to keep most things private. "I'm from Cleveland. Family and friends call me Ana for short," she shrugged, feeling like there wasn't much she wanted to divulge too soon.

"You do not understand my enthusiasm! I have spent centuries dwelling behind others as I tried to find that inspiration to write again and it not be a disaster." He sounded so...old. He was. He was pretty old, but not as old as some of the others.

He took a moment in her response, it not exactly quite the exciting one he was hoping for. "What of your parents? Surely, you have a love of books and history and the literary world. You had to have gotten it from somewhere."

Ann looked at him, "You mean years?" She was confused (and concerned) by his use of the word centuries because that would be crazy. She knew him to be very eccentric, but certainly not insane. "No, I understand how exciting it is to finally find a student who makes your class interesting and who takes an interest in what you're teaching."

She was still dwelling on his very strange use of that word and it was probably very evident in her face. But no matter! "My mom loves books. She used to be a librarian, but she retired a few years ago. Well, she had become a librarian after she and my dad mended their relationship when she went back to him after breaking up with this crazy man who thought he was William Shakespeare," she said with a laugh and looked back to the huge screen. It was an innocent comment, but she didn't realize the impact it actually had on her life.

He titled his head and thought a moment. "No, I meant centuries. I'm quite old." He had no qualms about his identity either when it came to it. He wasn't as hush, hush as some of the other immortals. It was probably why he'd been threatened to be sent to an asylum a time or two.

His mouth opened up in a gasp as she spoke of her mother. "Aurelia!" She was such a saucy and learned woman. That was until she thought he was crazed. That ended before he wanted it to. He put his hands over his mouth as the dots started to connect. "She's your mother." Had that wonderful creature scorned him and been pregnant? Was this his prodigy?

Anastasia looked at him with concern. "O....k...." she had a sudden urge to get out of there. She tried to recall if he had any mental problems, but she didn't know.

At his knowledge of her mothers name she turned more to look at him. She didn't go around telling people her parents names. They deserved privacy. "How do you know my mothers name?"

He gasped in delight, enamored by the fact that this could potentially be a child of his. And if she was indeed his, he could use her to help him out of this creative slump. Maybe she was the key to all of this!

"I knew your mother. I was so heartbroken when she rid of me like days old laundry." His face changed, angered by the fact that she (like so many others) left him because his focus was always on self. His eyes softened at her, looking at her now as if she had some hidden features of his. "I was the poor fool she didn't believe was who he said he was." Was it not obvious? Could no one tell he was such an important figure?

It made Anastasia incredibly uncomfortable the way he looked at her like that. Things had taken a very serious turn and she felt an even stronger urge to get the hell out of there. Apparently he was a loon and she needed to get some distance between them. "What are you talking about?" Although she felt increasingly more uncomfortable she managed to sound perfectly calm. She had been in some uncomfortable situations in her life and this most likely wouldn't be the last.

"There's something you don't understand about this place and all of us in it. Don't run like she did." He suddenly felt his heart leap and scatter into an oblivion of dust onto the ground. He'd had hope! This one could be the key to overturning his cruel, cruel fate! It wasn't lost when there was one of him, a seed planted into the world that now was grown and so alive!

"I'm not delirious. Your mother wouldn't listen, and I'm sure deep down inside of you you know I'm right. I am William Shakespeare." Sans the dog collar and pearl earring that was such the fashionable attire all those centuries ago.

Oh, Anastasia knew. She knew that people were insane and she hated that one of her colleagues happened to be one of them!

Anastasia stared at him intently as he spoke. It was absolutely impossible for him to know her mother, and so long ago too! She moved to sit on her knees. "There's no way you knew my mother nearly thirty years ago. You're practically my age and I'm not even twenty-nine yet. I'm getting out of here," she said and stood up quickly. This was too much excitement for one day.
