Ernie Macmillan is brilliant but flawed ([info]closedcaptioned) wrote in [info]neeps,

IC/OOC: Ernie Meets With Montrose Admin + Staff
As mentioned here, Ernie and Dani set up a meeting this week to discuss with the Montrose staff Ernie running some tests during the Montrose Quidditch practice. After getting everyone in the room, a very nervous Ernie, carrying an accordion file folder and a large blue-print roll, asked everyone to sign a non-disclosure agreement. Once that was taken care of,

"I am testing out a motion capture system that will allow real-time projection of events on receivers. Er. Essentially. Television. It doesn't quite work the same way, so I'd like to take you through what will need to be on the pitch and what I will be needing the players and equipment to wear so that you feel comfortable with the set up and the exposure."

It is obvious that he's nervous giving the presentation. It's also somewhat obvious that he's practiced this a good number of times. He unfurls the blueprint roll; it's already ordered neatly.

"There will be 8 of these structures laid on the base of the pitch facing up: one behind each of the keepers and three on either side spaced evenly along the east and west. With a height of 1 meter, and a length and width of 5 meters, they shouldn't interfere with practice play. The individual bulbs project a specific beam of light outside of the visible spectrum - it won't interfere with their visual acuity - the beams establish a three-dimensional grid and, because they are made of light, it won't interfere with the magic on the broomsticks or the equipment."

Reaching into his pocket, he pulls out a handful of buttons and passes them around.

"These get stuck onto every player, every ball and every hoop. Each resonate with a unique frequency that bends the light - that's all. I've done extensive tests, with the individual balls and with a few players, of which I... er... have, if you want to have a look at it later. But these are what allows the system to track their movements. We don't need to put them on the broomsticks as they essentially work for the whole outline of the players so long as it's touching their body."

"Georgi, Roger, Lex - they've all helped me out with some of the initial testing and can verify that they have not experienced any alteration to their play with these tagged onto them. But... that's partly why I wanted to do this wide-scale test. If there is anything the players notice, anything you notice, I'd like to hear it. It'll take me a few days to set everything up, so if I have an agreement... I would like to set the test for next Friday. But, obviously, if you have any questions, please."

Florrie signs the non-disclosure agreement. She perks up at the mention of television.

"I'd like to do some before and after diagnostics, but I don't anticipate any problems based on what you've said."

"I don't know if you want to avoid the people who have already been exposed or not, but I may ask you for any anomalous data you retrieve - with consent of the players, of course."

"I have baseline measurements from everyone on the team taken before the exposure but we'll take special diagnostics for this. And of course, if they give permission, we can do that."

Ernie absolutely looks elated.

Dani of course signs the non-disclosure, and then busies herself from collecting the forms from everyone else and clipping them neatly together before giving them back to Ernie. She's very curious about his invention, but it's quickly clear that the technology is well above her head. Other parts of it bring questions to mind, though.

"Sooo who would watch these events? Who would have the receivers?"

"Me. I have the only equipment that broadcasts and receives it. I wouldn't invite all of the league managers in for a viewing." A pompous, nervous sort of laugh. "Anything further than that is some ways off."

"I wouldn't mind something like this in the future, if it works. It's hard to make it to every match with a baby on my hip, so having an alternative would be fabulous. I know I'm not the only one who could use that."

Ernie flat out beams. "Yes! Oh, that's wonderful to hear!"

Merc signs and takes one of the buttons to look over as Ernie runs through the presentation.

"Bit in the future but does the eventual 'like television' plan involve capabilities like omnioculars have? You know, rewinding, slowing, pausing, and all. I've never seen a muggle television you can do that with, which has always been a shame."

Ernie blinks for a moment at Merc, considering it quickly as he can.

"Em... I'm not sure. At current, recording and storing of wireless broadcasts are licensed so... I'm not sure how that would work on a home to home basis - what we'd be allowed to provide."

"Good add on if it's manageable, I'd certainly want one at home. But fair, too far ahead to say. How durable are these?" He asks, holding up the button in his hand. "Bludger and stadium wall reasons is all."

"It's a pretty durable resin - I put a couple of blasting hexes to it and it didn't do much, took a beater's bat to it. I think it's pretty good."

Dani smothers an amused look at the idea of Ernie going at the buttons with a Beater's bat, but doesn't say anything.
