GENERAL SCHEDULE

6a-9a »» Captain’s Sessions
A mix of running, strength training, and agility drills with Lorna and Alasdair at the helm. Other staff members are at the pitch to oversee and be available as resources if needed because Ellie won’t be there.

9a-12p »» Break!
Nothing official planned. Nap if you need it. (Please nap!) Time for one-on-ones if needed.

12p-2p »» Strategy Sessions
Lunch strategy meetings. Menu by Maggie. Reviewing old matches. Focusing on styles of other teams, with a bit more focus on Montrose. One day might even be media training/PR stuff, just to cover all bases here.

2pm onward »» Coach’s sessions
Lots of scrimmages in weird variations. They will be playing down, she might challenge players to play as if they have an injury, not using an arm, or any other weird thing you might think of. Most days players will be out by 5pm.

Exceptions:
Saturday, 3 February, training 7am-1pm
Sunday, 4 February a day of rest. (you're welcome)
Thursday, 8 February team will be dismissed just after 9am.
Friday, 9 February is the day at the Dragon Reserve.

Ellie didn't bother to point out they had a Reserve Day back in October. That was decidedly before Ainsley, pre-Cannons, and only in the early days of the MacDonald heartbreak. Best for everyone not to focus.

"Have thought about it. Problem we'd be playing down a beater and two chasers. Be rather weird. So I went with dragons instead. Far easier to figure out."

"Can't fault your logic there, unless the other team played only reserves as well. It would be the mediocre vs. the mediocre- a game for the ages!" Ainsley considered what she'd just said, and her face fell.

"Not that the other reserves are mediocre! I didn't mean that at all! Maddie and David and Amir are great. They could go toe-to-toe with any starter any day."

Ellie opted to laugh. It was the easier option. And at least in this case not entirely inappropriate. "You're not half bad either." Of course Ellie might have been batty for taking a Cannons reserve and more than that a career reservist onto her time. But Ainsley was as key player in training and at the end of the day didn't want take Meaghan's place. In the bigger picture that was what they needed.

"I take it you're on the way to a nap?"

Ainsley was honestly relieved when Ellie laughed, because she couldn't help but feel like she'd really stepped in it. She also kept herself from completing the sentiment about not being "half good" either, as calling oneself middling- or, in her case, reinforcing the idea- in Quidditch was a colossally idiotic thing to do, especially when speaking to management. She was relatively certain that none of that was said aloud, so thank Rowena for small favors.

"Mm," she hummed by way of a reply, but realized it may have come off as a bit noncommittal, so she added a nod and a, "That's the idea, at least. Kip for a few minutes, if I can. Who knew nearly being possessed by a bloody book could take it out of you so much?" A brief pause. "What about you?"

"Just did the same. Although no dangerous books involved." There were plenty of things that might be laughing matters. Ellie still couldn't see the humor in one of her players getting sidelined due to a cursed book. Especially during a week where she had anticipated having everyone. That meant Meaghan would get more work, but at the very least Ellie supposed she might need it to not worry about Joy.

"Shame. Really adds that extra oomph to the nap experience." Her joking smile didn't quite make it to her eyes. Ainsley had taken to downplaying the event, even made fun of herself, because honestly. Maybe if she did it enough, she could go back to convincing herself that everything was okay, and that she wasn't having odd thoughts at any given time of the day, couldn't seem to keep her mind off of-

"Everything is okay," she muttered, mostly to herself, and then she glanced up at Ellie. "If I haven't said it lately, I'm sorry about all this. I really was looking forward to this week's training. I've subbed a few brutal games over the years, and the masochist in me rather enjoys it. Once I'm cleared, I promise I'll be back at it twice, three times as hard, maybe give McCormack a bit of a break, yeah? That's my plan, at any rate."

"That is my plan as well." And just like she was planning to play the rest of her Reserves in the back of the season, Ainsley would get her moment as well. It just wasn't going to come as soon as Ellie planned. "But let's focus on the healing and being cleared, yeah?"

She offered Ellie a sincerely grateful smile. Of everyone on the team, Ainsley had been most afraid of the coach's reaction, so she really appreciated the complete lack of screaming that she had actually been expecting. "Definitely. Thanks, Coach. Guess I should go see a Sandman about some dreams, yeah?"
