Lorna nodded since that was true. Alasdair didn't complain and Scrimmy could be intense like Ellie.

"David... is going to suddenly have a lot more pressure on him then before. So you're going to need to work with him and make it clear that this is about helping him," Lorna suggested. "Keke is new, and in the middle of the season. I'm still not sure about her yet and what she wants. But team bonding can help with that," she said.

"I don't know about Cav either, that's unfortunately more territory for you and Bart to deal. And again, I will say again, Bart is here to help you. This is your call and he's here to assist." Hopefully those were some good pep talks.

"And good. It's good to get Maggie on your side."

"Not sure Maggie is on my side as much as we have an agreement that wellbeing of the team comes first." And honestly, that was about all she needed with the medic. Who she punched. But admittedly did very much win that fight. (And merlin, what the fuck had she been thinking? And really wasn't that the problem to begin with.)

The rest? Especially that insight about David. That was helpful. He was going to be under a lot more pressure now.

"I think. I think that it's good that we're working together again. I certainly made it worse for myself when I shut you out after the Fall Classic."

"Well, working together for the good of the team is good too. But really... Maggie has a good rapport with the team. And she's tough with us. It's not a bad idea to keep working on that agreement," Lorna suggested.

Lorna smiled at the part about it was good they were working together. "I didn't help matters much either," she admitted too because she wasn't going to let her sister take all the blame for that. "But this is what I'm here for: You and me. MacFusty sisters being bad ass and winning at Quidditch."

Ellie was working to own when she was wrong. It fucking sucked, but it was the adult thing to do. Or so she was told.

"But isn't that the heart of matter? You're back, but it's not the same."

"No, it's not the same," Lorna admitted but she didn't necessarily see that as a bad thing. "It's never going to be the same. We're not the same either," she said and reached for her sister's hand. "But that doesn't mean we can't be better than before."

"That's probably easier for you to say. You still get to play." Ellie hadn't meant or expected to have this conversation today. Or ever really. There were somethings that Lorna didn't need to know. But Ellie had some version of this conversation with Merc, Allie, and Luag. Maybe it was past time for Lorna to know.

"Fuck, Lorna, all I ever wanted to do was play beater alongside of you. I never got to do that after school." That part wasn't news. What came next might be damning. "Tore me right up watching you and Luag get to have that. After you came back post kids. Still the same fucking legend." She didn't mean to come off bitter and she wasn't. She didn't want to be jealous of Lorna's life, but in some ways she was.

"And it left me to watch my dream play out with the wrong MacFustys."

Lorna was shocked. She didn't know what to say to that. She knew that Ellie regretted not being able to play... and yes suspected some level of jealousy that Lorna still did get to play... and of course all that legend talk, but she'd never let herself think this far. And with hindsight... Lorna was telling herself that she should have known. Ellie was her sister.

To hear that Ellie was jealous of Lorna playing with Luag as beater, and without her... that really made Lorna regret how the Pro World had never let them truly come back together. Except for one year with Bunchanan Sr... the only other regular Beater Lorna has flown with was Oighrig before she retired. And while that had been fun and they'd well worked together, Lorna had always missed the time and traditions she and Ellie started at Hogwarts.

So because she didn't know how to make up for that with words, Lorna did move in to hug her sister. "I'm sorry."

Ellie wasn't sure she deserved the hug, but she accepted it. Otherwise it would have been easy to resort to form. To throw a punch or push Lorna back, resort to form. But she was exhausted. And still moving too slowly.

More so that quiet but growing louder voice reminded her she needed Lorna. That she shouldn't have tried to do any of it without her sister. Even if that was part of the problem.

"And I hate the Luag isn't playing right now, but it's also a huge relief."

Lorna kept hugging her sister because that was really the only thing she could do at the moment. She couldn't magically make her sister be able to play again (what was magic good for again?)

"Luag can always go back to playing again. He's helping in his own way now. I'm helping you by being on the pitch," she said and pulled back. "Over the break... I had a talk with Scrimmy. We had a beater practice so I could show her some moves."

"And after we were done... she asked me some questions. She wanted to know if it was okay to settle for doing something you're really good at even if you only liked it, if you couldn't do what you love," Lorna explained. Now she could have turned this all on Ellie about her coaching but she went in another direction. "I loved it when we got to be beaters together. I miss it, I promise I do. But even if it's not what we always wanted, this coaching and captaining this... we're good at this too."

"I don't know if I could settle." And wasn't that the big looming question for the rest of this season. Peggy had asked her as much on Boxing Day. Ellie no more had an answer then as she did now.

The past six months since she signed on to coach Pride was a whirlwind and a phase shift. Multiple shifts really. And like she asked Tor, not all of them were bad.

"But right now? I'll take making it through the rest of the season without being written off as a right nugget."

Lorna could understand that. She pulled back from the hug but still held onto her sister's hand. "We're going to get through it, the season. And we'll get through this week too."

"Fuck Lorna." Ellie wipes at her eyes, knowing she is going to need to pull herself together and be ready for everyone arriving soon. "I'd like to maybe win a few, maintain our rankings. Actually mean something positive to Pride."

They still had plenty of time of Ellie to pull herself together. "We'll win more than a few," Lorna assured Ellie. She was confident in that... even with the team changing up again. "We're definitely going to need to work hard... but I think you're doing something positive."
