I treated myself to the Catapults match on my final day of single-job freedom and now I may never forgive Fofana, but I suppose that's something we'll just all have to learn to live with.

[...] And does anyone have a spare litter box for a small cat? Do litter boxes even have si I can't believe I'm allowing an animal to shite in my wa I only need to borrow it for a week or so.

PORTREE PLAYERS [NO OTHER STAFF]
You're about to enter a [...] trying week. Aye, I'm aware that each of you is a professional, but that doesn't shield you from overexertion.
  1. When you get home at night, sleep instead of party. Doze when you can.
  2. Drink as much water as you c plenty of water. You have no excuse not to.
  3. Don't drink alcohol (it's one week. You'll survive.)
  4. Eat well — your body will need the fuel. I've given a list o asked the cooks to ensure there will be more smaller, nutritious meals and snacks for when you don't have the time for a complete meal, and MacFusty and I have arranged that there's always a hearty lunch waiting for you.
[#5 is added after Lorna's reply:]
  5. Please don't die.
Beginning tomorrow I'll be picking up some evening shifts at St. Mungo's, but I'll still be at the clubhouse during office hours if you need anything, as well as attending the late practices. If you think you're ill or overextending yourself, or if you have any questions, please come speak with me. I'd prefer to help you avoid injury than experience it first-hand. This goes for the regular season as well.

PORTREE MANAGEMENT
Parkinson's been a model player as far as his healing but I'm not keen on the idea of him playing the Harpies on the 20th after his concussion. MacFusty and Roberts have the report; my recommendation is to bench him. If all goes well he'll be back in the air in time to train for the match against my the Catapults.

ALEC URQUART
I met the Bulgarian, no thanks to you.

Oh, and... 🎶 I know something you don't know... 🎶

AUGUSTUS PYE
The Thing came back the very next day.
The Thing came back, I hoped it was a goner,
But The Thing came back; it just wouldn't stay awaaa-aaaay.

"But Maggie," I hear you insist, "Just take it back to the shelter!"

I did.

JUSTIN FINCH-FLETCHLEY
The tribe has spoken. [...] Well, the gran has.

You and me both. [...] Party baselines are unreliable. Look at you — all smiles and charm yet insufferable one-on-one. [...] I need to see him angry.

Aye, Sherlock.

He might very well be just as insufferable as me. [...] You want to piss off Peggy's...whatever he is right now?

Who? Anyway, what about David?

I don't want to actively piss him off, I want to see him while he's pissed off. He was too composed.

What about David, indeed.

Apparently he's quite composed on the pitch too. So you might have a problem there. But he was a bit shy when I met him, his cousin was the more forceful personality and we had to coax him into singing.

You're going to be deliberately vague as long as you can, aren't you?

What was he like around his cousin? And can he actually sing, or was it typical karaoke noise?

It's one of my many talents.

Cousin left more of an impression there to be honest. Excellent English. Good sense of humour (I think you'd like her for it). Plenty of confidence and enjoyed teasing her cousin. They seemed to be close and he got along well with her, but he was a bit shy about the party and had a tendency to blush whenever she teased him. Mostly he seemed more shy around us and took enough nudging to get up there and do backup. As for singing, decent backup material. Wouldn't make him do any solos but he could hold a tune well.

Correction: It's your talent.

He gains some points for being close with family, I suppose, although it's a wee bit suspicious that you and Pegs are both so taken with the cousin (is she part Veela?). Some of that bashfulness came across, but not nearly as much as you witnessed. [...] What do you think, then? You've seen him in a more [...] taxing environment.

One of them; you've never seen me skate. But back to Wee Davey and what one can only assume was quite the braw night.

Not as far as I can tell. She's just social and charming and seems to know her stuff.

I think..He mig I'm worried that Peggy likes him so that's what matters really. And I don't think he'd mistreat her.

Is your skating a lot of arm flailing? And I'm sure David has more than just that braw night.

High praise from you. Will there be a second Draganov-Urquhart courting mission in the near future? And that's not what I asked.

Fuck you, I'm a br But it was an especially braw night... with a bonnie lass.

Ah. You've met her then?

I would be surprised if she's not. [...] Who knows, maybe he'll turn out to be more of an equal to her than the first impression suggests.

People always have opinions, whether they say so or not. Anyway, those details don't matter. She likes him, he doesn't seem like he'd mistreat her or try and overshadow her or not let her pursue her own interests. Aren't those the most important things?

What was it you knew again that I didn't?

Aye, but they're not the only important things. Someone's got to ensure he isn't incompatible with her in other ways that would make her unhappy later down the line, and that falls to the bestie. I'm performing my due diligence.

That he left a party with said bonnie lass.

What are the other ways he'd be incompatible?

Do you not usually leave a party with the person you com with?

Different values. Different ideas of success. Different methods of handling stress. Different approaches to bairn-rearing. Different long-term goals. Different holiday preferences. Different [...] other sorts of shite. It's not that they need to be identical but how the fuck can anyone begin to discuss marriage before you even know if you make each other ha [...] but Pegs should never settle merely because it's an appropriate match.

That requires arriving with someone, and I can assure you, that was not the case.
