WHO: Everyone! IC/OC
WHEN: Thursday, 21 December 1999
WHERE: The Manor House, Macmillan Park
SUMMARY: Mid-Season (Christmas) Party hosted by the Montrose Magpies at Macmillan Park, cocktail dresses and blazers suggested.
RATING: Low

The Macmillan Family welcomes you to to Macmillan Park for the Mid-Season Yule party for all of Scottish Quidditch (and then some).

The Manor House is decorated for the season, with each room on the first floor having a display of its own. The public areas of the garden are also decorated and kept at a comfortable temperature (as long as you are wearing a cloak) with plenty of warming charms. Christmas crackers are available on all of the tables for all of your paper crown and terrible joke needs.

Finger foods and drinks (alcoholic and non) are plentiful. Eggnog can be made either way and if you want a hot chocolate with a splash of whisky, nobody is going to bat an eye. Entertainment is provided by the Tomnahurich Quartet and the Calanais Singers throughout the night in the main hall. A selection of seasonal songs in the muggle and wizarding traditions were planned, but both groups will take requests. They will be performing both together and separately.

For any children who joined their parents in the festivities, they have their own party going on upstairs in the rarely-used nursery (think very large and extensive playroom with bedrooms nearby and a schooling area). There are kid friendly foods, including sandwiches, personal pizzas in seasonal shapes, a Hot Chocolate Bar, and cherry flavored fizzy drinks. There are, of course, plenty of sweets to be had as well.

The food tables are the first thing Maggie makes a beeline to. By the time her hand lands on a plate she's already got an itemized list in her head of what she's going to eat and in what order she's going to eat it in.

She's more than happy to chat (with most people) and, when she descends upon a Christmas cracker, she nearly cackles with glee.

Maggie grins and offers Ernie the opposite end.

It's a purple crown! Ernie burst into laughter and puts it on her head.

Her grin widens and she tries to straighten it, but apparently it's determined to sit a little askew. "Always knew I'd be royalty."

Lorna comes to find Maggie. "Weekly meeting of the Florrie appreciation club," she said as she points out Florrie and Cav together.

"Ahhh," Maggie sighs wistfully, "Young love. It's beautiful, isn't it?" And yes, she's aware that they've both got nearly a decade on her.

"So precious. Eyes only for eachother. Arriving arm in arm," Lorna agrees. And it's alright, Lorna is old enough and married long enough for the both of them to make such comments.

"Do you suppose we should take a photo of them and frame it?" She spreads her hands like she's reading a Hollywood marquee. "'Babies' First Dance."

"Yes I think we should!" Lorna has to stop herself from laughing. "That could be written on the edge of a heart shaped frame."

When Agnes has finished her tour of the music rooms and judging how suitable the acoustics would be in theory, Alec is let go to mingle with the guests (as is expected of him).

When he notices Maggie, he'll come up and glance at her purse. "I think I promised a drink and a dance if you survived this long? Or did you come empty handed tonight?" As if, he fully expects almost a jug of firewhiskey in there.

Alright, fine, seeing any Urquhart coming her way right now gives her a bit of a start. Luckily, she recovers quickly when Alec doesn't seem to be there to deliver a duel invitation from his sister.

"A MacDougal never parties empty-handed." Maggie confirms with a shake of her clutch. She grabs a meatball-on-a-toothpick thing (HOW ARE THEY SO GOOD?) before motioning for him to follow her around the corner of the hallway, out of sight as long as they're careful. "It's so nice of you to come by and offer to drink my stores. And they say chivalry is dead!"

Alec lets her lead and follows a safe distance behind so it doesn't look untoward (shush).

"Well they say a wizard is only as good as his word and what would I be if I didn't follow through?"

"Lonely," she suggests as she pulls the flask out of her purse. Weirdly, neither the purse nor the flask makes any sound until the latter is in her hands and she's unscrewing the cap. She knocks back a generous dram before handing it over, smirking. She's pretty proud of herself. "Dreadfully so. And bored, I'd reckon."

He spares the briefest glance around before taking a good swig and handing it back. "I've got enough to occupy me so I'm not bored. And by the way, this means I now owe you a dance so you can tell me how bored you were with your day." Although he knows it was must've been anything but boring.

She stashes her flask away again, but just as her purse is about to close there's a noise: half of second of a blaring horn before she slams the bag shut. The Good Shepherd Maggie mutters a quick Fuck! under her breath before she looks back to Alec with an expression that just dares him to ask, takes his elbow, and begins to walk to the dance floor like nothing had happened, nothing at all.

"Aye, 'boring'."

Alec raises an eyebrow at that, and there's more than a little amusement in his eyes as she marches them to the dancefloor.

"So...how long has your purse had that delightful and not at all foreboding sound? New feature?"

Almost on cue the dramatic rising horn comes through again. Loudly. And on cue with the foreboding horn of doom, all the guests around them freeze and turn to stare.

Alec just gives Maggie a Look. Ears checked eh?

Maggie stops cold, presses her lips into a thin line, then waves her hands at the guests as if to say back to your own fucking business. She's trying to hold the best poker face possible, but her cheeks are beginning to redden.

And the backtracking begins. "Fine. Since yesterday." She scratches her neck, uncomfortable, and peers over her shoulder to see if she's still being watched by confused partygoers. The answer is yes. "It's making my best behaviour a wee challenge."

[fyi, sands has total godmod permission for the awful purse noise!]

A few guests glance back at her again, some confused while some of the older ones look on in disdain at the uncouth interruption. Manners young lady!

Part of Alec is a little disappointed he doesn't have a picture of the moment, the frozen poker faced embarrassment and blush, to give to Peggy. But either way, it looks like the effort of this meddling was already worth it.

"Well...I can see how it'd be a wee bit...offputting. What sets it off?" He asks, neutral tone still in place as they reach the dance floor.
