It's been four days, and I'm still trying to wrap my brain around the Bad Ideas party from Friday night.

When Portree parties, they really don't do it by halves.

Anyway, all that to say that I've finally settled into my new place! It's on the Island of Raasay, so I'm virtually a stone's throw from practice now.

The only drawback is I have a roommate.

Meet Cecil Winterberry, b. ????, d. 8 October 1781, Poet, Pontificator, Potential Pain in My Arse

He's so annoyed that I managed to get this shot of him, but it's not like he can stop me from putting it down here! We're still working out a system, but at least I've stopped him popping up in my W.C. or waking up to him staring at me while I sleep. Dead creepy that. Literally.

Anyway, I really want to have some kind of housewarming to-do after the holidays, so be on the lookout for additional details there.

[Ro]

Thank you again so much for helping me get settled. Cecil is still apologizing for the mishap in the guest bedroom. He won't shut up about it. I hope your break is going well.

[Razor/Fraser]

I'm assuming by now you've seen the Circe article. I know it's not down to me that we warranted a mention, but I can't help but want to apologize for it. I had a great time, though. Maybe we can surf again sometime? Or we can try ice climbing next?

Also, now that I know a bit better who you are- thanks, Circe?- I felt I should tell you that I accidentally called Mel by your name on Saturday morning in a spectacular feat of mental acuity. In other words, I was hungover all to hell and definitely had you on the brain.

[Maggie]

Can we just agree that Bad Ideas are just that and maybe give them a miss for awhile? Also, what's the policy on dating- or trying to date- Quidditch commissioners?

Oy. It wasn't just a portree party. It was a LADIES party. Except for the crashers.

That's fair. But it did seem like a majority of the Bad Ideas fell firmly on Pride.

Does the worst-case involve Peggy Urquhart, by chance?

I see what you've done there. And because I like you, and feel bad about your potential predicament, I'll tell you.

But you'll be disappointed.

We surfed. In the middle of the night.

No, that's not a euphemism.

Absolutely not, in no way, no siree.

Do you know how dangerous that is? Did you contract frostbite? Did you hit any obstructions? Did you drown my semi-distant cousin?

I should apologize to you. I didn't think we'd been spotted, but perhaps the bar-staff tipped 'em off. Anyroad, Circe is not a thing to worry about. If this is your first time being mentioned, welcome to the club! They like the public lives of players, because you're so photogenic. Like Joy and Meaghan, about a month ago.

I'd be happy to do either. There's good surfing on Lewis, and also some great Staks. Have you done any plain mountain climbing?

Oh, and Mel kindly told me how you like your coffee and eggs, so apparently I'm now on the hook for breakfast-in-the-future.

oh merlin no why

You're apologies really aren't necessary at all, but thank you. This recognition- so to speak- is definitely not something I'm used to, that's for certain. Definitely not something I want to get used to.

I've not tried that either- plain or otherwise. You might just turn me into an outdoors person yet, and then Nature will never have done with me.

Did he? I suppose that means our engagement is off. That was certainly sweet of him. You are, of course, under no actual obligation to do any such thing- feed me breakfast in the future, that is- but I wouldn't be sad if you did.

There are 143 players in all of British and Irish Quidditch, out of all the wizards and witches in all of these islands. Even if you're not starting, you're elite. Given the injury rate, you've got to be able to compete at pro-levels on as little as 3 days notice. People get weird about Quidditch--you're stars. I'm just a guy with a very public job because of his family.

You did great as an outdoorswitch. I enjoyed every bit of our evening together.

We should probably start with a mountain and save the ice climbing for a later adventure. Skye has the Cullins, which are challenging, but not unfriendly to newcomers.

Mel and I went to the same school of bachelor cooking, so as long as your medic doesn't complain that's it's not healthy, breakfast is always a possibility.

With odds like that, it does seem unfortunately inevitable. It's not really an aspect of the game that I particularly enjoy, but I suppose I should resign myself to that particular fate. I really can't imagine doing anything else with my time.

I had a great, if unexpected, time as well. I'm sure mountain climbing will be no different, especially given the company.

At this point, I think my medic might have better things to worry about other than the frequency of any bachelor breakfasts in my future. She might be mollified a bit if she knew I was taking a crack at your kitchen from time to time. Fair warning, though, expect leftovers for days. I don't generally do food by halves.

Maybe all this outdoors stuff will help with some of that energy.

[Ainsley]I envy you a little. My family pressured me into not trying out. I love the game, though.

Mountain climbing is great fun. It goes from a walk in the park to a vertical climb over the course of hours. And the views and the sense of accomplishment when you bag a munro (that's climber talk, btw) is amazing.

I forgot that your mediwitch organized the Bad Ideas party. For what it's worth, I don't think I had a bad idea the entire evening.

You're welcome to cook at my place, but I'll need some warning. I'm renovating and I don't remember the state of the kitchen.

And I definitely want to help you burn off some of your excess energy.

He wrote you an apology sonnet, but I absolutely refuse to share it. I had to hear him sort it out for two days, and it didn't wind up anywhere good.

What kind of cookies? I'm always in the market for new recipes.

I might drop by mine for a bit too, but I thought I'd try to spend more time with my muggle grandparents this year. It's been too long since I've been to see them.

Perhaps next time I stop by he can recite it for me? He's quite sweet, for a spectre.

Mint chocolate. It's the only sort I can make. I'll happily pass on the recipe.

I'm planning on doing the same, I haven't been able to visit either sets as often as I should the past couple of years.

[Lorna]
By the way, I'm almost done with the baking I promised you. Just a couple more batches to do tomorrow, then I'll package everything and owl it to you.

I made some extras for you, Owen and the kids too. Hope you don't mind!

Extra? Of course I don't mind!

That should really be posted somewhere. I mean, it's completely unreasonable to expect us to actually learn from our mistakes.

[Lorna]
Don't worry about it, really! It's my pleasure, and it gave me a chance to really break in my new kitchen. Cecil was oddly helpful too- just wait until you try the gingersnaps. His poetry may be awful, but he's a little uncanny with his spices.

[...]

I'm not really sure if I should be asking you this, because it might not even be anything at all or you may not be in a position to advise me, but do you know or can you think of any BIL rules against a player dating a commissioner?

Well that's why the bad idea party is annual. See if you make the same mistakes or new ones.

I have never thought of Ghost being helpful bakers...

Oh. Well, I'm not sure. Owen would probably know. Is this about you and Fraser?
