It's been four days, and I'm still trying to wrap my brain around the Bad Ideas party from Friday night.

When Portree parties, they really don't do it by halves.

Anyway, all that to say that I've finally settled into my new place! It's on the Island of Raasay, so I'm virtually a stone's throw from practice now.

The only drawback is I have a roommate.

Meet Cecil Winterberry, b. ????, d. 8 October 1781, Poet, Pontificator, Potential Pain in My Arse

He's so annoyed that I managed to get this shot of him, but it's not like he can stop me from putting it down here! We're still working out a system, but at least I've stopped him popping up in my W.C. or waking up to him staring at me while I sleep. Dead creepy that. Literally.

Anyway, I really want to have some kind of housewarming to-do after the holidays, so be on the lookout for additional details there.

[Ro]

Thank you again so much for helping me get settled. Cecil is still apologizing for the mishap in the guest bedroom. He won't shut up about it. I hope your break is going well.

[Razor/Fraser]

I'm assuming by now you've seen the Circe article. I know it's not down to me that we warranted a mention, but I can't help but want to apologize for it. I had a great time, though. Maybe we can surf again sometime? Or we can try ice climbing next?

Also, now that I know a bit better who you are- thanks, Circe?- I felt I should tell you that I accidentally called Mel by your name on Saturday morning in a spectacular feat of mental acuity. In other words, I was hungover all to hell and definitely had you on the brain.

[Maggie]

Can we just agree that Bad Ideas are just that and maybe give them a miss for awhile? Also, what's the policy on dating- or trying to date- Quidditch commissioners?

With odds like that, it does seem unfortunately inevitable. It's not really an aspect of the game that I particularly enjoy, but I suppose I should resign myself to that particular fate. I really can't imagine doing anything else with my time.

I had a great, if unexpected, time as well. I'm sure mountain climbing will be no different, especially given the company.

At this point, I think my medic might have better things to worry about other than the frequency of any bachelor breakfasts in my future. She might be mollified a bit if she knew I was taking a crack at your kitchen from time to time. Fair warning, though, expect leftovers for days. I don't generally do food by halves.

Maybe all this outdoors stuff will help with some of that energy.

[Ainsley]I envy you a little. My family pressured me into not trying out. I love the game, though.

Mountain climbing is great fun. It goes from a walk in the park to a vertical climb over the course of hours. And the views and the sense of accomplishment when you bag a munro (that's climber talk, btw) is amazing.

I forgot that your mediwitch organized the Bad Ideas party. For what it's worth, I don't think I had a bad idea the entire evening.

You're welcome to cook at my place, but I'll need some warning. I'm renovating and I don't remember the state of the kitchen.

And I definitely want to help you burn off some of your excess energy.

Mine weren't particularly thrilled either, but I didn't exactly give them a choice. If you want or have time, we could put together a pickup game sometime with Lex and your friends and family over the break? No worries if the holidays are a mad rush, though.

Sounds like a great challenge. I'm really looking forward to it! I'm sure you'll have me speaking the jargon in no time.

My only regret from that night was the sheer number of Birds of Paradise I drank that night, if only because I lost count and now am not sure about what my actual limit should be. None sounds like a conservative number for the moment.

Are you doing the renovations yourself? I can help, if you need a hand.

Cecil just asked if I was unwell. "Your face- it burns just like a brand. What words here caused this look to land?"

He's not very good, but he tries.

Let's say that at 17, I wasn't as good about standing up to my aunt and my grandmother, who ran things. I'd love to play a friendly. Mel and I occasionally pad up to play with Lex, and we could certainly find a few chasers around to get into the mix.

Then we're on for Sgùrr Alasdair. Maybe the first week in January? The weather forecast looks good, but we might have to move it. What days are you off from practice?

My only regret is that you didn't get to try the flaming giraffe to compare it to. The bird of paradise was quite a thing and one that I would quite like to drink another time. And next time, if you keep the feathers, you'll have a way to count...

I'm doing quite a bit of the renovations myself, but I'm also working with one of my Grandmother's house elves. They might as well be licensed contractors. He seems to enjoy it, but he's got weird priorities.

I am related, by marriage, to the 'Worst Poet in all of Scotland', William Topaz McGonagall. I wonder if your Cecil knew him...

I didn't think I had it in me either, but I found this hidden font of stubbornness, much to their chagrin. Let me know when everyone might be free, and we'll pull something together. I usually have nothing but time on my hands between practices (and mountain climbing, apparently).

I haven't seen the practice schedule posted yet, but I'll definitely let you know. Do you have plans for Hogmanay? Plans for New Year's? calm down

oh fuck me the feathers...which are absolutely not still in my bag from that night... no Ainsley don't count them There's always the next Jungle night?

I'm no stranger to weird priorities, hence the offer to help, if you could use another hand.

Cecil informed me that he was well before "that hack's" time, and now he's gone to have a sulk in the upstairs bedroom. I think he's chuffed that that particular McGonagall was remembered for something. I'm going to have to do some research on pacifying temperamental ghost poets, or he's going to be my absolute end.

I'll definitely get something arranged. Pickup Quid is a family favorite.

If you're free, would you like to attend a Holiday Party with me? It's Thursday evening, but it won't get really going until after the Solstice broom races...

I could always use another hand. If you come to the party, we can slip away and I can show you the Priory.

I am not sorry I've made Cecil sulk, but at least he went upstairs.

Sounds great! Just let me know the particulars.

My only plans for that evening was to listen to the race on the wireless, but a party sounds like it might be a bit more fun. Where and what time should I meet you? I'd love to see your place. too forward?

Don't worry about him. He's been sulking for centuries. It's practically an art form by now.

How about I pick you up at your cottage at Eight? I can apparate us from there as easily as meeting you somewhere else.

It's not formal, cocktail dresses mostly. For the women.

Well, now I'm a little disappointed that I won't get to see you in a frock. I'll see you at Eight on Thursday.

Perhaps I can borrow one from Winterberry. I am looking forward to it.
