Aureliana had to remind herself that the grand opening for the storefront was supposed to be a celebration, but also laid-back, with the focus on the brooms rather than the party itself. A meet and greet with Jason took place several times throughout the event and kids could come in and enjoy the Build A Mini Broom station where they could "customize" a little palm-sized toy broom.

The centerpiece of the store was Jason's new racing broom for everyone to admire. If you were interested in purchasing a custom broom yourself, someone was available to make an appointment. For everyone who was not in the immediate market for a new broom, there was also a line of accessories available for purchase. Gloves, goggles, broom maintenance kits, and the like.

There is a selection of finger sandwiches, cheese, veggies, cupcakes, and Scottish shortbread to snack on. Butterbeer and sparkling wine are also available. For favors, there are little goodie bags filled with chocolate candies fashioned to look like brooms.

Florrie leaned back against the other wall in a remarkably similar gesture. "She was drinking and smoking. At least a dozen, plus she dosed herself with a standard course of pain relief for hangover prevention--I know what was in them because I sent them over, thinking they were just going to go dancing, not knowing that Lex was going to be there--and she tried to get on a broom.

Then she straightened to look at Merc. "Other than the fact that I have to talk to the Healers at Mungo's about this, what do I do? Or do you need to talk to her? Because if she goes on like this, she won't be fit to fly come January."

Merc ran a hand through his hair and shook his head. "Even if she was fit to fly, I wouldn't play her at this rate. She's...floundering. She's not even giving it time. Everyone gets a concussion at some point, this isn't the first time. It's just worst and on the heels of George." Which perhaps made all the difference.

"She's got regular appointments with Mungos and you right? Maybe we need Micah in on this. Both as Captain and...you know. She's going to go do this kind of thing in between seeing you and Mungos and we can't hold her hand through this. He's at least there most of the time."

She hated to say this but Florrie felt compelled to be honest "--be ready for her to be unable to come back in January. Talk to Shona. Maybe we won't need to, but you're right. She's got other problems, emotional problems, Maggie suggested as much. And we're not the ones to solve that.

"Maybe Micah is, and maybe he can rally the family to help. But we need to know what he will do as Captain if we have to bench his wife for her own safety."

Merc nodded, resigned to all this. "Either way we need to talk to him. Right now my roster plans for the next two matches don't have her on them. But that's assuming Kal or Georgi don't get hit badly. And in this season..." He shook his head and sighed.

"I know you mean...past just unable to play in January. But let's try and tackle this first. Even if she can't play for the whole season we can't leave her like this without trying to get her back on the right path. If things turn out worse...then I guess we'll see what to do."

That Merc might also have to say no because she wasn't fit to fly even with clearance wasn't something Florrie needed to get into. "If I'm the authority figure--I daresay mother or sister figure--she has to revolt against, she's not going to take my help.

"Still, also, we should talk to her teammates and see if they can support her. Not in detail, but I know she respects Angus and Jason and Lennox. And I might also talk casually to Aureliana, to see if she has any idea."

"She has to have things her way a lot of the time, damned be the consequences or things in her way." Unfortunately the consequences of this were both out of their hands and rather more permanent.

"If it takes most of a team to keep her from something this reckless then that's what we need to do. And Florrie? Whatever you clear her for or bar her from, I'll back you. Even if it's not strictly in line with what you'd normal okay for a broom."

I won't lie about her medical condition, but if she can't stay off a broom for one day, it's a fair question about mental capacity, too, and that's something you and Shona and I have to look at. None of us is going to want to bat bludgers at her because we can--" and Florrie's face showed her awareness of the wrong metaphor "--but this is where we reach the limit and if we have to enforce that, we do."

He smiled fondly. "You won't ground her because you're mad, I know that, you're right. But if she's fit to fly doesn't mean she's fit for a match. Or that she'll get played. Players gets benched for rest or just rotating the roster and I've been needing to take her off for some matches for a while now. If we have to bench her for a match for disciplinary reasons, then so be it. Better than throwing her into something she isn't ready to get back to."
