Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
WHO: Everyone
WHAT: A catastrophe
WHERE: St. Mungo's
WHEN: Thursday Afternoon, around 4:45p

The bottle had been swapped the night before. The intern, a young wizard named Julius Young, was not supposed to be using Draco's ingredients, but he'd run out of his own and didn't want to wait till tomorrow. He was almost done, fifteen minutes before his shift was over. Arsenius had gone home. Draco was on break. He charmed the lock open, took out the bottle, and went back to his work station.

It was one of the most common potions the hospital used, but one of the ingredients, if mixed with Salamander Blood, was horribly explosive. The night before someone had sneaked in to the lab and swapped the bottle with salamander blood, dissolved in water with green dye. When the fake ingredient hit the half-finished potion, there was a shower of sparks, and then--as it mixed in-- a big bang.

The hospital shook, the blast set off a chain reaction of other, less stable ingredients in the lab. The floor above caved into the lab below. The lab sank into the floor below. Clocks fell off the wall, bottles rattled off the edges of tables.

The hospital broke into a state of panic.

Leanne was on her way back into her office after walking with one of her patients downstairs and out of the hospital. She customarily walked people down and out, as she felt it was the most courteous thing to do. It'd been a very long day for Leanne, as she was called in around twelve hours ago to work a domestic violence case that came in over the night.

She rubbed the back of her neck as she reached her office door--but was called back into the hall by someone. She didn't know who that someone was, because the instant after she heard her name there was a deafening CRASH, followed by explosions. The world shook, and Leanne was thrown back off her feet away from her door. Good thing, too, as the ceiling in her office caved in, sending dust and debris everywhere.

Leanne had the wind knocked out of her. She was disoriented, and slowly lifted her head, starting to cough.

Emma had been going to see Tim when it happened. She wanted to tell him that she'd found some fun decorations for the party; basically she just wanted an excuse to see him. Ever since they'd started planning the party, she thought about him a lot. That wasn't like her - but it was a nice change of pace from worrying about her mother all the time.

She'd entered the spell damage ward when the rumbling started. The floor was shaking violently when she looked up and saw him heading toward her. Everyone around them was screaming and running, but time felt like it was standing still as the floor bagan to visibly crack...

Tim was a little panicked. He'd just been called to a case, and was headed in the direction of the room to which he'd been called when there were huge booms, walls shaking, and people screaming. He saw Emma and stopped in his tracks. The hall was directly above an office downstairs. The crack traveled quickly along the wall, then the floor shook and tilted, dumping Tim, Emma, and a spare gourney down into the office below.

Tim had given a very un-manly yelp as the floor below him gave way, and he landed with a pretty nasty sounding crunch on the desk in the office below.

Emma was going to run, but there was no where to run to. Everything was collapsing around them and then suddenly the whole floor collapsed and she screamed as she fell through to the floor below her. While the lab itself had continued to fall away, they were another wing over, not above the lab but above an office that didn't collapse.

Emma landed in a painful heap, covering her head as debris fell around her. She heard the gurney smash overhead and she screamed again, hearing it crack, hoping that Tim hadn't been in the way of it. Dust and papers flew everywhere, she could still hear the rumbling and then everything was eerily silent.

Tim's lungs wanted him to cough, but his chest muscles were on fire. Maybe he cracked a rib in his fall. He turned to climb off the desk once everything was starting to settle, and fell off the desk with a yelp of pain onto the floor. Definitely a broken rib. He lifted his head to look around the room, though it was hard to see past all the dust, papers and debris in the air.

Had Emma fallen in the room with him? She was the last thing he saw in the hall before he'd fallen. "Are you there?"

Emma lifted her head a little, wincing when she heard something fall in the distance. She lifted her hands from her head and looked over her shoulder - just barely able to see Tim. "Tim? I'm..." she coughed, shifting as she slid out from under the gurney. "I'm over here... are you OK?"

"I'm okay." He called back. He wasn't really sure. He was doing a mental survey of his limbs. Everything seemed surprisingly all right, save his chest. Definitely broken rib. At least one.

"Are you all right?" He asked, slowly pulling himself up to his feet to survey the room and move to her.

"I think so," she called back, lifting her body to sit up among the debris. "Oh... oh, Merlin the entire floor caved... we must be on the floor below ours?" she assumed, looking up at the gaping hole where a ceiling should have been. They were so far down - seeing as an entire floor was missing - that climbing back out wasn't an option.

She rose to shaky feet and crawled over the desk, slowly, and sank down beside him. "There's blood... is it yours?" she asked, gesturing toward the desk where there was a stain. Emma checked herself, noting scratches on her arms where her robes were torn and could feel that her cheek was starting to swell.

The Janus Thickey Ward was right over the lab. Miriam had her shoulder under Alice Longbottom's arm, walking her back to her bed while she tried to give her candy wrappers. When the floor caved in, Miriam felt gravity tug her down and screamed in shock. Alice didn't make a sound.

The next thing she remembered was seeing a broken light flicker and spark overhead. Miriam tried to see through the haze of sheetrock dust. She felt hot, wet blood dripping across her face. She couldn't move. There was something on her body and her left side felt numb.

She lay there, coughing from all of the dust, wondering if Alice was okay. She couldn't see the woman anywhere.

One minute she had been speaking to a patient and then Audrey was suddenly on the floor with people screaming and crying around her. She couldn't remember how she ended up on the floor. She didn't recall the explosion.

All she knew is she was hurting, badly. Her head was pounding and Audrey felt pain shooting up and down her leg. She tried to call out, but inhaled a large gulp of dust and started coughing profusely.

Audrey pulled herself up as best as she could, groaning in pain when she put weight on her left leg. "Who's there? What happened?"

Miriam heard Audrey's voice. She cough, trying to be heard. She couldn't get much air to project for very long. "I can't move," she called.

Miriam picked up a small piece of debris and threw it, hoping someone might see it and see where she was. It was her own, pathetic distress beacon.

A bit of rubble landed in front of Audrey and she looked towards the direction it came from. Grunting with each step, she hobble over to Miriam and looked down. "Dear Merlin," she whispered softly.

If she knelt down, Audrey knew she wasn't going to be able to pull herself up again. "Hold on," she said and fumbled around for her wand. Pulling it from her robes, Audrey lifted the lab table that had fallen on top of Miriam. Carefully moving it to the side, Audrey checked and double checked that it wouldn't land on anyone else.

"Oh...." she looked down at her side. There was a gash in her shirt, straight through her skin, and she was laying in a pool of her own, almost black, blood. "Is that all mine?"

Brighton's grand-mum was sick, so Roger had Brighton in his office, being quiet and playing with a stack of colouring books.

Roger got up to get a cup of coffee when the building shook. There was a loud cracking noise above and suddenly the lab fell through the floor and into the offices. Roger was in the hallway, staring in shock as the dust settled. Then he remembered Brighton was in his office, threw his cup down, and ran for the door.

Behind the untouched wooden door was a pile of debris. Roger couldn't get through the room. He started grabbing pipes, splintered beams, and broken glass from the lab above, trying to get into the office. "SOMEBODY HELP!"

Hermione had been in the Volunteer Room when the first explosion shook the building. Thank Merlin's Pants that the room was safe--only a couple of pictures fell from the walls. Hermione was unharmed. She stood, though, drawing her wand, and rushed into the hall to help where she could. The first room she came across was Roger's.

"Reducto!" Hermione cried out, blasting the debris out of the way for Roger to get back into his office.

Hermione saw Brighton before Roger even moved the beam. But they couldn't get to the boy until the beam was moved. Hermione rushed forward to kneel beside the unconscious boy, and brought her free hand around to very gently touch his wrist. There was a strong pulse there. Hermione was far from being a Healer, but she knew a pulse when she felt one.

"He's alive. He's got a head wound, but it doesn't look that serious." They just bled a lot. She turned to Roger. "It's probably best not to move him until a Healer can make sure his neck isn't broken."

Not what Roger wanted to hear to feel comforted. "HEY!" He started shouting down the hall, up the hole in the ceiling, everywhere. "WE NEED A HEALER DOWN HERE NOW!"

Michael had been rushing down the hall looking for anyone and everyone who needed help. He'd made sure his patients were alright and left them with one of the interns. He was almost at the caved in floor when he heard a shout. He ran towards the sound faster than he was moving before.

He really didn't need to ask what was wrong. He could see the issue before Roger said anything. He moved around and knelt down beside Brighton. He immediately felt for a pulse.

"He's alive," was the first thing he said. He checked his head, then, more importantly his neck. It wasn't broken, but it would probably be sore when he woke up. He muttered a spell to temporarily stop the bleeding from his head.

Astoria was in the hallway outside the office when the first blast occurred. She was knocked unconscious by the power of the boom, fell to the floor, and fell with the floor into the office below. A pile of rubble landed on top of her. Thankfully, there was enough open space in front of her face that she wasn't suffocated.

She was out cold, buried under two floors worth of rubble.

Katie was reckless and --when she was walking near the edge of the hole upstairs, surveying the damage and looking for survivors, and saw an arm sticking out from under some rubble below-- she jumped down, aiming her wand in a charm to break her fall.

She flicked the wand at a whole mess of debris, lifting it off of Astoria. She knelt beside Astoria and checked her pulse. She seemed to be breathing. She patted her face. "Can you hear me?"

Astoria felt as if she was at the far end of a dark tunnel--or down at the bottom of a well with her eyes closed. There was a faint voice echoing toward her.

She stirred a little. Then the pain came around, waking her more fully. She had a few broken bones, probably some internal bleeding, and would be bruised from head to toe.

Her eyes opened. She looked very frightened.

"Hey, stay still," Katie said quietly. "Don't move until I check your injuries okay?"

Her nose looked crooked, but Katie figured she'd fix that last as it wasn't nearly as vital as the other obviously crooked limbs. "Do you remember what day it is?"

Astoria didn't even nod. She simply blinked, then swallowed. "All right."

There was a lot of pain in her back, hips and thigh. There was a warm, wet feeling in her hair, as if she was bleeding there, too. A tear slid from the corner of her eye down toward the floor.
