Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
WHO: Everyone
WHAT: A catastrophe
WHERE: St. Mungo's
WHEN: Thursday Afternoon, around 4:45p

The bottle had been swapped the night before. The intern, a young wizard named Julius Young, was not supposed to be using Draco's ingredients, but he'd run out of his own and didn't want to wait till tomorrow. He was almost done, fifteen minutes before his shift was over. Arsenius had gone home. Draco was on break. He charmed the lock open, took out the bottle, and went back to his work station.

It was one of the most common potions the hospital used, but one of the ingredients, if mixed with Salamander Blood, was horribly explosive. The night before someone had sneaked in to the lab and swapped the bottle with salamander blood, dissolved in water with green dye. When the fake ingredient hit the half-finished potion, there was a shower of sparks, and then--as it mixed in-- a big bang.

The hospital shook, the blast set off a chain reaction of other, less stable ingredients in the lab. The floor above caved into the lab below. The lab sank into the floor below. Clocks fell off the wall, bottles rattled off the edges of tables.

The hospital broke into a state of panic.

Tim gave a little nod, already laying back again. It hurt too much to move now that the adrenalin had worn off.

"Damn." Tim whispered. There were no windows in this room, either, he could tell from the lack of light. He forced his eyes open and looked up. The walls went straight up, and there was no ceiling.

"I think we're stuck."

She turned, looking up into the dark hallway above them. In the distance, she could hear yelling. "Someone is bound to come by. I mean there is a gaping hole in the floor... they'll have to come looking for... survivors," she said softly, making her way across the rubble to his side.

Emma sat down beside him, reaching out to check his pulse. It was strong and when she rested her hand on his chest, she didn't feel fluid in his lungs. "You just might make it," she smiled softly, settling down beside him. It was cold and dark and Emma was glad she wasn't alone.

"Survivors." Tim repeated with a very, very soft chuckle.

"I hope so. I'd hate to have a floor caving in do me in." He said, opening his eyes again to look up at her. She was so pretty.

"I really hope these aren't my last moments on Earth. This isn't exactly how I hoped to be spending them. Though, the company's nice--don't get me wrong."

Emma laughed softly, checking his head again. "Mmmm, I don't want this to be the end either," she admitted. She was scared though, she'd had a life-threatening moment and it was true that those kinds of moments changed your perspective on life itself. "You know... the night I left your flat," she said softly, "I... I wanted to kiss you," she confessed. Yeah, it was one of those moments, too.

Tim raised an eyebrow as he looked up at her. "Yeah? What stopped you?" He asked. Her confession filled him with warmth that had nothing to do with his injuries.

Emma went back to gently running her fingers through his hair. "Well, I didn't know how you felt... you know... a girl has to know if a guy is in the friend category or the perhaps-something-more category. I wasn't sure which vibes you were giving off," she smiled softly.

"Yeah?" Tim asked again, unable to stop grinning now. He loved the feel of her hand in his hair. "And what vibe am I giving off now?"

Emma stared down at him. "Brink of death," she sighed, quirking an eyebrow at him. "Honestly... I don't know," she admitted. "I'm usually pretty good at knowing but..." There was something about Tim that made her feel like his attention wasn't always there when it came to her - Emma didn't like that.

"Well, I do have a broken rib or two." Tim said, shifting his body and wincing. "That explains the Brink of Death vibe you're getting."

He gave her a grin. "I wouldn't say no to a kiss, though."

"I'm sorry... I could heal you if I had my wand," she said, but it was clearly buried in the rubble.

Emma sighed and scooted closer to him, sort of cradling his body against hers. "Yeah? Will that help heal your wounds?" she asked softly, smiling at his charming grin. Emma leaned down and placed a soft kiss on his cheek. "Better?"

"Don't worry. I'll be better soon enough." It was true, what she'd said. Someone was bound to come by and look for survivors.

"Of course it will." Tim said. He smiled at the kiss, his eyes closing temporarily. "A little. I could use another, though."

Emma ran her fingers through his hair, lingering as she moved within a few inches from his handsome face. "You know... when you're better, I'm going to be a girl about this and ask what this all means..." she warned just before she kissed his warm lips. Good, his lips were warm... he wasn't dying, she thought then let herself enjoy the kiss.

Tim lifted a hand to rest on the back of her head, pulling her against him to return her kiss. It was lovely. He knew they were opening a can of worms, but maybe he could chalk it all up to 'Brink of Death.'

If he claimed 'Brink-of-Death Syndrome' as the reason for kissing her back, she would be devistated. Mostly because he was a good kisser, injured or not. Emma leaned over him, sliding her lips against his, keeping the kiss gentle and chaste, but lingering long enough to make it a really good kiss. Pulling back, she smiled down at him. "Mmmm, I think you're going to live.."

Tim was starting to like Emma very much, though she wasn't Audrey. His fool heart was still thinking about the brunette. He couldn't help it.

He opened his eyes to look up at Emma, a little smile crossing his lips. She was beautiful. And fun. And seemed to like him very much. He was starting to like her, too, though he was guarded.

"Thank Goodness for that."

The yelling voices were getting closer. Emma lifted her head and saw beams of light dancing around the floor above them. "I think we might be getting out of here," she smiled down at him.

It was like the little spell was broken. Emma smiled at him, leaning down to press a soft kiss to his forehead then gently moved away from him to stand up. "Hello?" she cried, trying to project her voice upward. "Help! We're stuck over here!" she cried out.

"Oh, good." He whispered, turning to look up at the beams of light momentarily. "Though, they could have taken a couple more minutes." He kidded, giving her a little smirk.

Voices came a little louder. There were some workers, a triage nurse, and a Healer up in the hallway to help get them out of the office.

Emma turned around, staring down at him. "Are you flirting with me while you're on the Brink of Death?" she asked, giving him her own smirk.

There was a beam of light that shown down into the destroyed office. "Hey! You all right down there?" a man called.

"I'm OK, but he's not. He's got a couple of broken ribs and a gash on his head," Emma called up.

"We'll bring you up then get someone down there to help him." At that Emma turned to Tim, not wanting to leave him.

Tim nodded. He would have said something else, but the beam of light hit him in the face, and he squinted up at the people on the next floor up.

"I'm all right!" Tim called out, ignoring what Emma said. He turned to her. "It's all right. Go get checked out."

She reached out and touched his hand, but before she could do anything else, a hover charm was cast on her and she was being pulled out of the gaping hole in the floor. Emma didn't know the extent of the damage until she saw basically the entire wing had sunk down to the level below.

The nurse immediately took her down the hall to the stairs where she was taken to be checked out, and she didn't see Tim again for the rest of the evening.

It took two healers with hovering charms to get Tim up and out. He couldn't move his chest or neck until the Healers got ahold of him. He was moved carefully to a remote location to have his ribs healed.
