Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
WHO: Everyone
WHAT: A catastrophe
WHERE: St. Mungo's
WHEN: Thursday Afternoon, around 4:45p

The bottle had been swapped the night before. The intern, a young wizard named Julius Young, was not supposed to be using Draco's ingredients, but he'd run out of his own and didn't want to wait till tomorrow. He was almost done, fifteen minutes before his shift was over. Arsenius had gone home. Draco was on break. He charmed the lock open, took out the bottle, and went back to his work station.

It was one of the most common potions the hospital used, but one of the ingredients, if mixed with Salamander Blood, was horribly explosive. The night before someone had sneaked in to the lab and swapped the bottle with salamander blood, dissolved in water with green dye. When the fake ingredient hit the half-finished potion, there was a shower of sparks, and then--as it mixed in-- a big bang.

The hospital shook, the blast set off a chain reaction of other, less stable ingredients in the lab. The floor above caved into the lab below. The lab sank into the floor below. Clocks fell off the wall, bottles rattled off the edges of tables.

The hospital broke into a state of panic.

Emma was going to run, but there was no where to run to. Everything was collapsing around them and then suddenly the whole floor collapsed and she screamed as she fell through to the floor below her. While the lab itself had continued to fall away, they were another wing over, not above the lab but above an office that didn't collapse.

Emma landed in a painful heap, covering her head as debris fell around her. She heard the gurney smash overhead and she screamed again, hearing it crack, hoping that Tim hadn't been in the way of it. Dust and papers flew everywhere, she could still hear the rumbling and then everything was eerily silent.

Tim's lungs wanted him to cough, but his chest muscles were on fire. Maybe he cracked a rib in his fall. He turned to climb off the desk once everything was starting to settle, and fell off the desk with a yelp of pain onto the floor. Definitely a broken rib. He lifted his head to look around the room, though it was hard to see past all the dust, papers and debris in the air.

Had Emma fallen in the room with him? She was the last thing he saw in the hall before he'd fallen. "Are you there?"

Emma lifted her head a little, wincing when she heard something fall in the distance. She lifted her hands from her head and looked over her shoulder - just barely able to see Tim. "Tim? I'm..." she coughed, shifting as she slid out from under the gurney. "I'm over here... are you OK?"

"I'm okay." He called back. He wasn't really sure. He was doing a mental survey of his limbs. Everything seemed surprisingly all right, save his chest. Definitely broken rib. At least one.

"Are you all right?" He asked, slowly pulling himself up to his feet to survey the room and move to her.

"I think so," she called back, lifting her body to sit up among the debris. "Oh... oh, Merlin the entire floor caved... we must be on the floor below ours?" she assumed, looking up at the gaping hole where a ceiling should have been. They were so far down - seeing as an entire floor was missing - that climbing back out wasn't an option.

She rose to shaky feet and crawled over the desk, slowly, and sank down beside him. "There's blood... is it yours?" she asked, gesturing toward the desk where there was a stain. Emma checked herself, noting scratches on her arms where her robes were torn and could feel that her cheek was starting to swell.

"I don't know..." Tim lifted his hand to feel around his chest, where his ribs were aching. He didn't have any bones sticking out, that was a good sign. His forehead had a scratch, and it was bleeding rather well. Maybe that's where the blood came from. Tim hadn't noticed his bloody forehead yet.

"I don't think so. Are you sure you're all right?" He asked, turning to inspect her. He was more worried about her right now. Those scratches on her arms looked like they needed attention.

But Emma was ready to pay him attention. "You are bleeding though - but not enough to make that stain," she observed, settling down beside him. Her hands were shaky as she looked for something to wipe his head.

Emma reached down and tore at her robes, pulling the hem out so she could tear the cloth. "Here..." she reached up with the piece of pink and pressed it to his forehead. "I'll be fine... really... you... you're breathing heavy and with difficulty," she observed.

Tim shook his head a little, though the room swum when he did so. "What do you think did it?" He asked, looking over at the stain. His chest was killing him, quite a bit more painful than his headache.

"Broken rib, I think." Tim said, shifting a bit and wincing.

Emma moved to sit beside him, resting her hand on his heaving chest. She winced when he did, shaking her head. "I don't know... we're above... where are we? Above the potions lab? If it's still there..." she put more pressure on his head. "I think I lost my wand somewhere in the fall," she said, unable to heal his wounds.

"We were in the hallway." Tim said, frowning and shaking his head. He pulled his wand from his pocket. It was snapped nearly in half.

"Shhhh, don't move," she said gently, resting her hand on his chest to still him. If he did have broken ribs, she didn't want him aggrivating the breaks and possibly popping a lung.

"Someone has to come by," she coughed as chunks of ceiling fell behind them, bringing up a lot of dust.

Tim coughed, then laid back down on the ground. If his ribs were in danger of popping a lung, there'd be less danger if he laid still on his back.

Why did neither of them have working wands? He cursed himself for keeping his wand in his back pocket. He could have blasted off a buttock!

"I'm sure someone will come for us."

Emma's wand must have flown out of the cuff of her sleeve when she fell. It could have been anywhere. She settled down beside him, resting her hand over his forehead where he bled as she inspected her own injuries. She still had a lot of adrenaline flowing through her system, so if she had more injuries, she didn't feel them yet.

"So..." she looked down at him, pressing the ripped cloth against the gash, "I was coming to see you to tell you that I got some candles and a few more table clothes," Emma smiled softly.

Tim gave a laugh, winced, coughed, and winced again. "The party planning already seems so far away." He said, turning to look up at her. She was rather pretty--even with dust in her hair and a worried expression on her face.

"It's going to be a fantastic party, though."

"Oh... damn, Tim, I didn't mean to make you laugh," she said, pressing her hand to his chest again. She could feel him struggle to breathe; his rib must have been pressing right against his lung.

Emma brushed her fingers through his dusty hair, lifting the cloth to check the cut on his forehead. The gash seemed to be closing, which was fortunate seeing as she had no wand. "It is going to be fantastic... or we're going to be stuck down here and have to party in this office," she sighed, looking up into the gaping hole above them.

"It's okay." He said, shaking his head a little. He hated that he was in such bad shape. But her fingers in his hair distracted him completely from that thought.

"Well, this seems like a good room for a party." He said, looking around. He didn't dare move his head too much for fear of dislodging her makeshift bandage. "What room are we in, anyway? Where's the door?" Blocked by rubble.

"It looks like an office," Emma observed, looking around for a way out. "I think... I think the door is over there," she gestured. She looked down at Tim, not wanting to leave his side.

"Here, give me your hand to hold the cloth and I'll see if I can get over there," she said, pulling his hand up to keep pressure on his head. She rose to shaky feet and made her way across the cluttered floor, letting out a yelp when she lost her footing, falling to the floor in a heap. "I'm OK... I'm OK..." she assured him right away, looking up at the door... There was a huge beam braced against the door, blocking their exit.

Tim lifted his hand so she could put it against the cloth on his head. When he heard her fall, he sat up abruptly, winced, then laid back down again.

"What is it?" He called out. "What do you see?"

Emma turned back toward him for a moment. "Don't move, you could pop a lung," she said seriously as she rose to her feet again.

Emma walked over to the door, turning the unlocked handle. When she pulled, nothing happened. "Oh, Merlin... the beam fell... it looks like a support beam collapsed when the roof caved in... and it's blocking the door!" she exclaimed.

Tim gave a little nod, already laying back again. It hurt too much to move now that the adrenalin had worn off.

"Damn." Tim whispered. There were no windows in this room, either, he could tell from the lack of light. He forced his eyes open and looked up. The walls went straight up, and there was no ceiling.

"I think we're stuck."

She turned, looking up into the dark hallway above them. In the distance, she could hear yelling. "Someone is bound to come by. I mean there is a gaping hole in the floor... they'll have to come looking for... survivors," she said softly, making her way across the rubble to his side.

Emma sat down beside him, reaching out to check his pulse. It was strong and when she rested her hand on his chest, she didn't feel fluid in his lungs. "You just might make it," she smiled softly, settling down beside him. It was cold and dark and Emma was glad she wasn't alone.

"Survivors." Tim repeated with a very, very soft chuckle.

"I hope so. I'd hate to have a floor caving in do me in." He said, opening his eyes again to look up at her. She was so pretty.

"I really hope these aren't my last moments on Earth. This isn't exactly how I hoped to be spending them. Though, the company's nice--don't get me wrong."

Emma laughed softly, checking his head again. "Mmmm, I don't want this to be the end either," she admitted. She was scared though, she'd had a life-threatening moment and it was true that those kinds of moments changed your perspective on life itself. "You know... the night I left your flat," she said softly, "I... I wanted to kiss you," she confessed. Yeah, it was one of those moments, too.

Tim raised an eyebrow as he looked up at her. "Yeah? What stopped you?" He asked. Her confession filled him with warmth that had nothing to do with his injuries.

Emma went back to gently running her fingers through his hair. "Well, I didn't know how you felt... you know... a girl has to know if a guy is in the friend category or the perhaps-something-more category. I wasn't sure which vibes you were giving off," she smiled softly.
