Who: Leanne, Roger and Brighton
When: Backdated to last night
Where: Roger's place
What: Dinner Delivery
Rating: TBD

Leanne made dinner again. This time she took broccoli and put it in with the mac and cheese, along with the hot dogs. That way she wouldn't have to make an extra salad on the side, and she could focus on dessert. She made brownies this time, with little chocolate candies in them. It was a very good meal.

The wine they'd shared the last time was gone by now. Sometimes when she was alone at night, Leanne turned to wine for comfort. She needed a bit of comforting lately, as she kept seeing Katie in the halls at St. Mungo's. So, anyway, Leanne picked up a new bottle of wine, and a bottle of sparkling apple juice, then headed over to Roger's place.

She hoped he remembered she was coming. She knocked on the front door.

Roger had remembered, so instead of coming to the door in lounge pants and a T-shirt, he was still dressed from work and the place was a little cleaner. Brighton answered the door, with Roger close behind him.

"Hi Leanne," Brighton said. "Watchu bring for dessert?"

Leanne broke into a grin when the door opened. She bent down to look Brighton eye-to-eye. "Brownies." She said, giving a rather excited expression. "Do you want to help me carry them to the kitchen?" She asked, pulling the tinfoil wrapped package out of her bag.

Brighton grabbed the package and ran to the kitchen. Roger took the dish of macaroni from her so she'd have a free hand. "Thanks for cooking," he said.

Leanne stood back up straight and gave him a soft "thanks" when he took the dish. "Of course. It's my pleasure." She stepped in so he could close the door behind her, and followed Brighton to the kitchen.

"I brought sparkling apple juice for Brighton, I hope that's all right."

"That's fine," he said. Roger set the macaroni on the table and uncovered it. He summoned three plates from the cabinets, three forks from the drawers, and three glasses from the dish drainer.

Leanne set the wine bottle and cider bottle on the table, then slipped into one of the chairs. "The brownies have candy in them." She said in a whisper, leaning over toward Brighton. "I think they're going to be delicious."

Roger poured Brighton's cider in a wine glass so he could feel special. Brighton climbed up into his chair and placed a stack of napkins on the table. "Let's chow down so we can get to dessert," he said.

"Let's get started, then!" Leanne said, giving Brighton a grin. What a good kid! She started dishing up the mac and cheese onto their plates. "I put broccoli in. Do you like broccoli?" She asked Brighton, scooping some onto his plate.

He shrugged. "It's okay."

"Well," Roger cut in, "It's covered in cheese, so I bet you'll hardly taste it." He ruffled Brighton's hair.

Leanne grinned softly at the ruffle to Brighton's hair. It was sweet. She loved being able to watch such gentle gestures.

"Even if you do, it'll be delicious." Leanne insisted. "I love broccoli and cheese."

"How's work?" Roger asked before taking a bite. "I've been holed up in my office, haven't seen you around the offices very much."

"Good. I feel good lately, like I've been helping people." That was the real reason Leanne did what she did. She wanted to help the whole world. "You've been busy?" She asked, starting in on her own food.

"Not really," he said. "People don't start suing the hospital until after the holidays, usually." Most people needed the New Year to get to the blaming stage of grief when they lost someone near the holidays.

"You should come by my office some time and save me from mountains of paperwork," Leanne grinned softly. "It'd be nice to have a bit of a break."

"So long as I don't get you in trouble," he said. Roger took another bite. This was fabulous. He'd have to remember to sneak more veggies into Mac and Cheese.

"Nah, I don't think it'd be a problem. I stay late most nights so I can take breaks during the day." She said, taking another bite.

"What do you think of dinner?" She asked Brighton, giving him a smile.

"It's good," he said with his mouth full. Roger wagged a fork at him. "Chew, swallow, then speak."

Brighton swallowed and repeated, "It's good."

"Thank you." Leanne grinned brightly. "Even the broccoli's good in mac and cheese, right?"

She gave Roger a wink.

"Even broccoli," Roger said.

He took a sip of wine. Roger had to decided it was okay to drink when Leanne was over. Sure he'd 'given up drinking', but he didn't want to have to explain to her why he was refusing wine.

Leanne beamed. She sipped from her glass, then set it back down as she continued eating. She was actually really looking forward to those brownies, probably as much as Brighton was.

"Lisa used to cook for us," Brighton said frowning, "But she stopped coming over."

Roger's jaw clenched. Brighton hadn't talked about Lisa's absence yet.

"Oh?" Leanne had no idea who Lisa was or why she'd stop coming around. She didn't see Roger's jaw clench. "I'm sorry to hear that. Were you two close?" She asked Brighton.

"She was my babysitter, but then she just stopped visiting. I dunno why. She sent me a present, but she hasn't babysat in a while. Dad just owls Nana."

What could Roger say? He couldn't exactly tell his small son 'sorry I shagged your babysitter and now it's too awkward.'

"Oh, well, I'm sorry that you haven't seen your friend in a while." Leanne said. She was very curious. She glanced over at Roger, to see if his face betrayed anything.

"But maybe she'll come back around. I mean, how could anyone want to stay away from you for long?" She gave Brighton a grin. "You're far too much fun to be around."

Then she reached for the brownies.

"Maybe she's very busy," Roger said.

"Yeah," Brighton sighed and took a brownie, "Maybe she's got to clean her room."
