Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Leanne, Roger and Brighton
When: Backdated to last night
Where: Roger's place
What: Dinner Delivery
Rating: TBD

Leanne made dinner again. This time she took broccoli and put it in with the mac and cheese, along with the hot dogs. That way she wouldn't have to make an extra salad on the side, and she could focus on dessert. She made brownies this time, with little chocolate candies in them. It was a very good meal.

The wine they'd shared the last time was gone by now. Sometimes when she was alone at night, Leanne turned to wine for comfort. She needed a bit of comforting lately, as she kept seeing Katie in the halls at St. Mungo's. So, anyway, Leanne picked up a new bottle of wine, and a bottle of sparkling apple juice, then headed over to Roger's place.

She hoped he remembered she was coming. She knocked on the front door.

Leanne looked up when she was almost finished and saw that he was sleeping. She lowered her voice considerably so she wouldn't wake him, but finished the story. Maybe he'd hear it. She closed the book, then stood to tug the blankets gently up and around his shoulder. She set the book down on his bedside table and turned to leave his room. When she saw Roger there she paused a little, and blushed.

"How long have you been there?" She whispered to him as she approached.

"Since he ordered them to cut down the tree," Roger said, leading the way out of the room and turning the light off. He walked straight to the living room sofa and sat down. "Nice work with the voices. I've got competition."

Leanne followed him out. She still had a half glass of wine left from dinner, and figured that she'd finish it off before heading home.

"I've got a bit of practice with my little cousins." Leanne said, picking up the leftover glass and moving to sit with him on the sofa. "I'm rusty, though." She added, grinning.

"I don't think Brighton noticed you were rusty," he said. "So, how have you been?" He knew people never really said much about the real quality of their lives around kids.

"I've been..." Missing my best friend. To be honest, she was thankful for the distraction that Roger and Brighton served to her in her life, but she was also thinking it was time to get back to her life, wasn't it? "I've been good. Spending a lot of time with my family lately. My cousin Bernadette has four little ones, so I've been helpin' her with them a lot lately."

"You're just knee deep in kids, huh?" Roger only had the one in his life, and he'd almost lost him.

Leanne blushed. "I've got a lot of family." She said, then shrugged softly. "I'm one of twenty-something cousins, and more than half of my cousins have at least one child. Some of my aunts and uncles aren't that much older than I am, too, so... it gets insane at family parties. Honestly, there aren't many places big enough to hold us all."

"So how do you keep track of everyone?" Roger came from a family of rich people who had one or two kids and then went back to champagne parties.

"I have a quilt," Leanne lifted her hands to help her explain. "It hangs on my wall, and the quilt os of a family tree... new names show up when family members are added."

"Handy." He was sure that the Davies tree was pretty narrow. "So it keeps up so you don't have to?"

"Yeah." Leanne said. "My Mum made it for me. She's been making all the quilts for the family... it's tradition. My Grandmother used to do it, but she doesn't sew so well anymore. All the witches and wizards in the clan that go to Hogwarts get a quilt when they finish school."

"So you're going to have to learn to quilt," Roger inferred. "Do you even sew?"

Leanne shrugged, sipping from her glass. "My mum's been trying to teach me, but I'm afraid I'm not very good at it. I'm going to have to practice. A lot." She said.

"Do you think I could make something for Brighton?" She asked, turning to give him a smile. "To practice? I feel weird making something for myself."

"I think Brighton would like that," Roger said with a nod. "What kid doesn't like presents, right?"

"Right." Leanne finished her glass of wine. She was trying to think up what kind of quilt she'd make for Brighton.

"I'll get started on it right away. Do you need help cleaning up after dinner?" She asked, turning to him.

"I'll get it in the morning," Roger said. He was just too lazy to take care of it right now. "Thanks for offering, though."

"Sure. I'm here to help." It was nice to get away from her own life for a while, and to feel like she was helping someone else out.

"I know things with a little one can get rather hectic."

"Yeah, they can. And they know how to make bigger messes than you can ever imagine." Brighton sure made some good ones a few years ago before he knew he could get in trouble.

Leanne nodded. "I never have to deal with the mess part. I leave that up to my aunts and cousins." She gave a grin. "The best part about having little cousins is I can give them back when I'm done playing with them." She kidded.

"Luck you. That's the one part of parenting I would trade." He started to yawn half way through the word 'trade'.

Leanne gave a nod. That was her cue to leave, wasn't it? She gave him a smile, then climbed to her feet.

"I should get going. You look tired."

Roger thought of telling her to stay a while longer, but he really was beat. "Yeah, seriously, what are you, nocturnal?" He grinned. "You never seem tired."

Leanne shrugged, grinning softly. "I'm just... perky. Sorry if it bothers you." She'd been told that she was too perky in the past. Not much recently, though. Especially not after she and Katie had their falling out.

"Who has that kind of energy? Not me." Not with an active little boy at home. Roger hauled himself off the sofa and started shuffling to the door.

Leanne gave a little shrug and walked with him to the door. "I do. Most of the time. When I'm happy, anyway." She let him open it, and then stepped through.

"Anyway, I'll see you later. Have a good night."
