Who: Ron & Hermione
What: Their auction date
Where: Quidditch museum
When: Saturday, beginning at 6

Ron wasn't sure what had made him suggest going to the Quidditch museum on a date, except that it sounded like the kind of thing that both he and Hermione could reasonably enjoy. At first, he'd thought of taking her to play Quidditch, but something told him that would make the whole thing even more of a disaster than it already was. And then he'd remembered the museum, and Hermione's love for anything remotely resembling a library, and he figured he had nothing to lose by mentioning it. And to his surprise, Hermione did actually seem pleased by his choice, and he was completely puzzled as to how he was supposed to ever fall properly in love with this woman if he could never figure out when he was doing something right, and when he wasn't. He was completely shocked every time he did the right thing, and now was no exception.

But for now, at least, it seemed he could be confident that he was doing well. He'd been on time to pick her up, and they'd apparated to the museum, and were now standing just inside the entrance, tickets in hand, deciding which direction to head in first. Ron's cheeks were nearly as red as his hair, as he became certain that everyone nearby could tell they were on a date, and he became flustered by the mere thought. "Um. You pick," he was saying to Hermione. "You're good at making decisions like this."

	Ron's face blushed too now, but he had the wherewithal not to pull away, instead tightening his grip just a bit to participate in the hand-hold. 	"Bludgers. Right." Hermione turned to take a couple steps toward the Bludger exhibit. The charm on her high heels was fading, and she was about to start wobbling. "They used to be rocks." She said, looking at the bludgers in the cage. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Ron chuckled a bit. "But the beaters broke them up into gravel!" He shook his head. "That would be pretty bloody annoying," he said, "having all those little rocks flying at you. Oh, and look," he went on, pointing. "They tried to use lead too, but the things got all wonky when they were bent out of shape."

He was finding this stuff a lot more interesting than he'd realized, and he wondered if this was what going to museums and libraries was like for Hermione all the time. Maybe, he thought, he should give this kind of stuff another chance.

	Hermione looked over at one of the antique lead balls. She gave a soft, involuntary shudder. "I still can't imagine having something iron flying around at me, trying to knock me off a broom." 	Ron laughed softly over that. "It's bloody fun, that's how," he said, getting that look of excitement on his face just thinking of how good it felt to be up on that broom, keeping the quaffle from scoring a goal. 	Hermione gave a little nod. She couldn't imagine it, really. Then again, she wasn't good enough on a broom to even attempt quidditch. She may have been a talented witch in other fields, but flying was difficult for her. She preferred her feet on the ground. "I suppose so. I enjoy watching you fly." She blushed a little. "Well, if you didn't mind hanging onto me..." Ron said, blushing, but also smiling brightly. He'd always thought it would be pretty amazing to take a girl he loved (okay, so most of the time he thought of the girl as Hermione) up on his broom. He knew it was a silly, romantic thing to spend so much time thinking about, but he didn't really care. He figured everybody was allowed one silly, romantic fantasy. "It'd be brilliant, I think," he told her. "Flying is great."

	The blush was still rampant on her face, but Hermione nodded. "I wouldn't mind." Actually, she'd dreamed about it once. She was afraid of heights, but she knew that he wouldn't let her fall. Ron squeezed back. He couldn't quite believe they were discussing this. Were they perhaps finally on the same page about their feelings? Were they going to make this into something more than just a date won in an auction? Ron liked to imagine that maybe they were, even if some of what Percy had told him the day before had him a bit troubled.

"I'd never let you fall, Hermione," he told her. "I'd be careful."

Ron felt a bit giddy, thinking about it, and he almost wanted to skip the rest of the museum and do it right then, except that he also wanted to see the rest of the museum and figured Hermione might, too. "Well, if there's a second date..." he teased gently, enjoying the change in the positioning of their hands. "I guess I ought to get through the first one first, though, yeah?"

	"I don't think you have much to worry about," Hermione responded. "So long as you don't light my hair on fire or wet yourself, I'm fairly certain there will be a second date." She gave him a shy smile. Hermione was starting to realize that the feelings they had were mutual. Her heart was pounding now as she held onto his hand. "If you want one." 	Ron burst out laughing. "Wet myself!" He was surprised to hear Hermione, of all people, suggesting such a thing, and he was just so amused by that. "Merlin, I'm not going to wet myself!" He composed himself, then squeezed her hand again. "I know right now I'll want one," he said more seriously. "I could have told you that before I even got here today." Hermione beamed, glad that her joke went over so well. She stepped closer to him. "I would have told you the same thing." Her assumptions about his feelings and her own was true. They'd been through so much together, it only made sense they'd want to stick together. Was Ron going to want to sow his wild oats? Harry seemed content to get married and settle down, but Ron? Hermione wasn't sure she'd want to settle down, but she knew she didn't want either of them to date someone else.

Ron was really trying not to think too far ahead, but if asked, he'd probably admit that at the very least he didn't want Hermione dating anyone else either. He didn't necessarily see a wedding and babies around the next corner like Harry and Ginny obviously had, but he also didn't see either of them with anyone else.

"You would?" he asked, smiling brightly, genuinely surprised. "Seriously? I thought -" He paused, shrugged. "I don't know what I thought. I figured you were looking for something else." He thought again of what Percy had told him. Maybe he was starting to see his point.

	Hermione was a little confused by that. What else would she be looking for? She shook her head a little, trying not to imagine the things Ron might've been thinking. "I don't know what else I'd be looking for." She said, turning to look at him full on. She gave his hand a squeeze, still laced in hers. "C'mon, let's go look at the broomsticks." Ron became speechless then, because he wasn't used to anyone saying things like that to him, least of all a girl he'd been in love with since he was probably 13 years old, if he was being honest with himself. And honestly, there were bigger, smarter, more interesting blokes in the world, and Ron didn't always feel like he measured up.

But they were having a nice time right now, so why dwell on his shortcomings? He squeezed her hand in reply and wandered over to the broomsticks with her. He chuckled a bit as he pointed to an old broom from the early part of the 20th century. "The Moontrimmer," he read. "Bloody hell, that used to be considered fast?! It looks like it'd break right in half!"

	"Well, it's nearly a century old." Hermione responded. "Of course it looks like an antique." She cocked her head to the side as she looked at another broomstick. "They're so small. Have they always been this small?" She couldn't imagine flying on one by herself. She'd done it, of course, but not in years and years. It seemed so dangerous. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

"Well, we were a lot smaller when we learned to fly on them," Ron pointed out. "But I don't think broomsticks have changed much in terms of size." He smiled fondly at Hermione, thinking of their plans to go flying together and enjoying the thought very much. "When's the last time you went flying?" he asked her, just wanting to keep the conversation on and around that topic as much as possible. "Be honest."

	Hermione paused, going a little pink. "I think it was when we went after those keys. Going after the Philosopher's Stone?" She shrugged. "First year." Hermione nodded. "I was twelve. It was the end of our first year, anyway. I've never been that comfortable with heights." She paused, turning to look at him again.

"When will I ever need to fly? I can just as well apparate, floo or take the Knight Bus. --As a last resort, of course." It wasn't the most fun method of transportation in Hermione's book.
