Who: Ron & Hermione
What: Their auction date
Where: Quidditch museum
When: Saturday, beginning at 6

Ron wasn't sure what had made him suggest going to the Quidditch museum on a date, except that it sounded like the kind of thing that both he and Hermione could reasonably enjoy. At first, he'd thought of taking her to play Quidditch, but something told him that would make the whole thing even more of a disaster than it already was. And then he'd remembered the museum, and Hermione's love for anything remotely resembling a library, and he figured he had nothing to lose by mentioning it. And to his surprise, Hermione did actually seem pleased by his choice, and he was completely puzzled as to how he was supposed to ever fall properly in love with this woman if he could never figure out when he was doing something right, and when he wasn't. He was completely shocked every time he did the right thing, and now was no exception.

But for now, at least, it seemed he could be confident that he was doing well. He'd been on time to pick her up, and they'd apparated to the museum, and were now standing just inside the entrance, tickets in hand, deciding which direction to head in first. Ron's cheeks were nearly as red as his hair, as he became certain that everyone nearby could tell they were on a date, and he became flustered by the mere thought. "Um. You pick," he was saying to Hermione. "You're good at making decisions like this."

	Hermione was a little confused by that. What else would she be looking for? She shook her head a little, trying not to imagine the things Ron might've been thinking. "I don't know what else I'd be looking for." She said, turning to look at him full on. She gave his hand a squeeze, still laced in hers. "C'mon, let's go look at the broomsticks." Ron became speechless then, because he wasn't used to anyone saying things like that to him, least of all a girl he'd been in love with since he was probably 13 years old, if he was being honest with himself. And honestly, there were bigger, smarter, more interesting blokes in the world, and Ron didn't always feel like he measured up.

But they were having a nice time right now, so why dwell on his shortcomings? He squeezed her hand in reply and wandered over to the broomsticks with her. He chuckled a bit as he pointed to an old broom from the early part of the 20th century. "The Moontrimmer," he read. "Bloody hell, that used to be considered fast?! It looks like it'd break right in half!"

	"Well, it's nearly a century old." Hermione responded. "Of course it looks like an antique." She cocked her head to the side as she looked at another broomstick. "They're so small. Have they always been this small?" She couldn't imagine flying on one by herself. She'd done it, of course, but not in years and years. It seemed so dangerous. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

"Well, we were a lot smaller when we learned to fly on them," Ron pointed out. "But I don't think broomsticks have changed much in terms of size." He smiled fondly at Hermione, thinking of their plans to go flying together and enjoying the thought very much. "When's the last time you went flying?" he asked her, just wanting to keep the conversation on and around that topic as much as possible. "Be honest."

	Hermione paused, going a little pink. "I think it was when we went after those keys. Going after the Philosopher's Stone?" She shrugged. "First year." Hermione nodded. "I was twelve. It was the end of our first year, anyway. I've never been that comfortable with heights." She paused, turning to look at him again.

"When will I ever need to fly? I can just as well apparate, floo or take the Knight Bus. --As a last resort, of course." It wasn't the most fun method of transportation in Hermione's book.

	"Alright, true," Ron allowed. "But it's fun! You're missing out!" He grinned. He really loved to fly, he couldn't even pretend to hide that enthusiasm. "And there's a good reason. 	"I won't go that high, then," Ron said. "I don't want to scare you." He smiled too. The thought of protecting Hermione from something, even just an irrational phobia, made Ron feel good somehow, and he wondered if that was what being in love was like, wanting to protect a person from even the most insignificant of threats. 	Ron nodded, pleased to have Hermione's trust, even though he knew without doubt that her magic was impeccable, and they wouldn't get splinched either way. 	"Oh, I dunno, it's been a while since I've seen Aberforth." Hermione said giving him a smile. "But you're right... I wouldn't want to eat or drink anything from that place. Let's visit Rosmerta." He felt a bit silly, but he also liked going to Hogsmeade and remembering the happier of their times at Hogwarts. "I didn't bring my own glass or anything anyway," he joked. 	Ron laughed at that, then squeezed back and prepared to apparate. He imagined the Three Broomsticks, focused his determined energy on it, then turned them both and CRACK! they were gone from one spot and onto the next. "Alright?" he said. Ron gave Hermione a bit of a strange look, only because her explanation for his success in apparating them seemed to come out of nowhere and reminded him briefly of the eleven year old who had corrected his poor pronunciation of Wingardium Leviosa. But he recovered quickly, and smiled as she spoke of her toes, and then reached out and opened the door, allowing her to enter ahead of him, but following close behind.

"What would you like?" he asked her. "I'll buy." It was a date after all, and he felt that this was what Percy would have advised him to do.

"I'll just have a beer." Hermione didn't actually like beer all that much, but she enjoyed the way it made her feel. Beer, more than other drinks made her warm and fuzzy rather quickly. Though, two was her limit. She'd be near tipsy off one, let alone two.

She squeezed his hand. "I'll get us a booth if you get the drinks?" She didn't want to see if he decided to drool over Rosmerta.

Ron nodded. "Alright, I'll grab two beers, you find a seat, and I'll be right there then."

At the bar, he was polite to Rosmerta, and cheerful, but he didn't flirt or touch her arm or anything he might have done in the past couple of years when he wasn't so focused on gaining Hermione's affection. Moments later, he joined Hermione at the table she'd chosen, setting a beer in front of her and then sipping his own. "There," he said. "So."

Hermione gave him a nod and a smile, then let go of his hand and found them a booth. There was another couple on a date at a table near them, they were snuggling and kissing. Hermione paid them no mind, but watched Ron on his way to the booth.

She reached for the bottle, giving him another smile. "Cheers." She said, then lifted it for a sip. "So." She repeated after him, finding it a little amusing that they both obviously felt a little awkward.

"We're required to have a goodnight kiss, you know."

Ron was really glad he didn't have anything in his mouth when Hermione mentioned the kiss, but if he had, he surely would have spit it all over the place, showering both of them in beer. He knew, of course, of the rules of the auction, and he knew, eventually they would have to get to that point, but he hadn't quite expected Hermione to talk so openly about it, just out of nowhere.

"Yeah," he said. "Um. I do know, yeah." He blushed, looking into his beer glass, too intimidated to look up. "I thought those happened at the, uh, end of the date, right?"
