Minor Injury Meme

A meme for those minor injuries that won't leave you down but make it hard to live your life. The breaks, sprains, and the hurt/comfort that comes with them.

INJURIES

1. SPRAIN: you stepped the wrong way, twisted the wrong way, and something has gone terribly wrong. Just remember RICE - Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation.

2. FRACTURE: You step off the sidewalk, working in the backyard, and suddenly BAM!! But it's not a sprain, oh no, you're in a cast for the duration. Good luck trying to get to work.

3. PULLED: It's not bad enough for medical attention but it still hurts something fierce. Break out the tiger balm or someone to give you a hand because you've pulled something. That awkward moment when you think you want vicodin...and nobody will give it to you.

4. MIGRAINE: Light hurts, air hurts, moving hurts. All you can do is lie in a darkened room and pray for the pounding pain to go away behind your eyes.

5. THE FLU: Maybe you're physically fine – well… all your limbs are working. You just feel like death warmed over.

6. WILDCARD: Anything else you can think of.

SCENARIOS

1. INJURED! WHAT NEXT?: You're out working, you're out having fun, you're out doing something when suddenly you step, twist, move and our bodies demonstrate just how fragile they really are. Quick! someone call the ambulance!

2. THE EMERGENCY ROOM: All the fun of a waiting room with rewards that include crutches, casts, X-Rays, vicodin, and sometimes just that one nurse who says "Yeah there's nothing wrong with you that'll be 400 dollars."

3. HOME AND SETTING UP THE NEST: Hurt, trying to make a space for you to get around. Hopefully someone is there to help you get to your crutches so you can go to the bathroom and make yourself something to eat.

4. PHYSICAL THERAPY HOME EDITION: The obligatory smut option. Do you not see that I'm wearing this cast?

5. OH GOD HELP I'M GOING TO DIE: That awkward moment when the fact that you are bedridden is crushing down on you and you're terrified you'll do something to make the injury worse. Snappish, angry, and rude - who are you going to take it out on?

6. DRIVE ME TO THE DOCTOR THIS SHIT IS COMING OFF: It's time, they say you can come in, take it off, and begin the next stage of recovery. Failing that, you’re going to grab a saw and cut the damn thing off yourself! Will there be joy, laughter, crying, happiness?

7. WILDCARD: Anything else you can think of.

Peter moved through the throng of journalists, Peter ignored them hollering questions, and got them inside the hospital. It wasn't his first time dealing with them. To his surprise, Darcy was waiting for them as soon as they got inside.

Walking up to them, she gave Peter's head a good smack. "What the hell is wrong with you? You can't ever forget that you're a Stark, do you hear me?" She asked, taking a couple of the pizzas from Daniel. "Daniel, you can go on up to the third floor, everyone's waiting. I want to talk to Peter. Alone."

She knew Daniel would easily defend and or lie for Peter, she wanted to know the real truth.

Daniel shot Peter a worried look. He didn't like the fact they were being separated. Divide and conquer. It felt like they were being parted so they could be murdered more easily.

He felt very much like he was walking into the lion's den. Only there weren't lions inside, but a Hulk. Even so, he nodded and gave Peter's cheek a kiss, taking the bag of sodas from him so he could carry the drinks and the rest of the pizzas.

"I'll see you soon," he said softly, before heading for the elevator.

Peter sighed and wished he could go and grab Daniel and tug him back, he didn't want to rehash something that had been unavoidable with his older sister.

Morgan practically tackled Daniel when he arrived upstairs. "D!" She squealed, going to give him a kiss on the cheek and taking what pizza he had with him. "I hope Darcy isn't gonna yell at Peter." She whispered in his ear, setting the pizza on one of the tables they'd commandeered in a corner of the room. Jessalyn gave him a nod but didn't say anything more.

Thor and Steve were there, also, with their son Lukas, he was three. "Daniel!" He said, running full tilt at him, his dark curls bouncing.

"Hey Morgan," Daniel greeted, giving her a one-armed hug once she took the pizza from him, leaning in to whisper to her. "Pretty sure she's murdering him as we speak." He set the bag of sodas on the table next to the pizzas and gave Jessa a nod in return.

As Lukas came charging at Daniel, he leaned down so he could scoop the kid up, resting him on his hip. "Heya Lukas. Wow. Look at you! I think you must've grown a whole inch since I last saw you. What are your dads feeding you? Lemme guess. Is it... snot sandwiches and crayon custard?" He asked, grinning at him.

He turned his attention to Thor and Steve. "Any news on Mr Stark yet?"

"No, silly. You color with crayons!" Lukas giggled, wrapping his arms around Daniel's neck. "Not yet, he's been in surgery for a couple of hours." Steve replied, standing up to help pouring sodas, he'd gotten some paper plates and red solo cups for everyone.

Morgan was filling a plate with a couple of pieces for Lukas. "Papa is getting some of Daddy's stuff from home, some books, some clothes. They said he'll have to be here for at least a month to recover." She sounded as if she was trying to keep her tone light.

It was then that Peter walked up, face red and carrying the other two pizzas. He smiled weakly at Lukas. "Hey, cuz, look how big you are." He said, giving Lukas a high five.

"Of course you do. Silly me. Must be snot sandwiches and goldfish pie!" He held Lukas close, making sure he wouldn't drop him.

"A month? Man. He's going to go stir-crazy in this place. We need to draw up a roster so people come visit him as often as we're allowed to keep him from climbing the walls."

Daniel carefully set Lukas down so the kid could get his pizza. He hooked an arm around Peter, pulling him in to kiss his temple. "You okay, babe?"

Peter leaned into him, and whispered in Daniel's ear. "I'll tell you later." He looked at Morgan. "Darcy said she was going to go get some air, she'll be back." He didn't want to talk about the talk he'd had with Darcy, but he had found out that she hadn't told anyone else, and as far as she knew, none of the rest of the family knew.

He kissed Daniel, and then moved to get a cup of Coke and some pizza, although he wasn't as hungry as he had been. Morgan eyed him curiously. "Yeah, I agree, D. Daddy is going to go nuts. He tried to get them to agree to him being home to recover, but they refused. He was so mad."

She helped Lukas sit at a smaller table that happened to be for kids, and poured him some juice she'd gone to the bodega next door to the hospital to get.

Daniel kissed back, before grabbing some pizza and a drink for himself. "Maybe I should bring him in a little tree to take care of while he's here. It might help. Or it'll be something he can throw at the wall. Either way, it'll keep him busy for a while."

He sat down at the kids' table with Lukas. He was short, but even he was a little too big for it really. But he made it work. He leaned over to Lukas, nodded at his juice and whispered in his ear. "Goldfish pee. Makes your hair curly."

He then took a bite of his pizza, washing it down with his soda.

Peter joined them, and so did Morgan. Lukas grinned and said, "You're gonna bring Unca Tony one of your bonsai trees?" He stumbled over the word. Peter smiled at him. "Yeah, kiddo, one of those." He told him, he'd filled his cup with Sprite, and he leaned to kiss Daniel's cheek.

Steve and Thor were talking to Jessa, who hadn't said a word to anyone else. "Don't forget to save some for Papa." Morgan chimed in, getting some more pizza.

Daniel nodded. "Would you like me to get you one too, Lukas? You would need to get your dads to help you trim it though, before the pruning scissors can be very sharp." He ruffled Lukas' curls lightly.

"We got plenty of pizza. We didn't want anyone to go hungry," Daniel said as he took another bite of his slice. As far as pizza here went. It wasn't bad. Not as good as back home in Jersey. But not bad.

"Have they given any indication on how long Mr Stark will be in surgery for?"

Lukas grinned. He turned to look at his dads. "Daddy, Dada, can I have one?" He asked, his blue eyes lighting up. They shared a look. Thor gave him a smile. "Of course, little one. When it gets big enough we can plant it in the backyard." He grinned more. "Thank you, Daddy!"

Going back to his food, Lukas did his best to chew with his mouth closed. Peter looked to Morgan for the answer to that question. Morgan looked at Jessalyn, who seemed to be determined to be as quiet as possible. She then looked at Daniel.

"They said it can take up to eight hours. And that's not including his recovery time. I brought some coloring books for Lukas, and some cards, so we could play."

Daniel smiled softly at Lukas before leaning in to stage-whisper to him. "I'll make sure you get the best one." He already knew the perfect one. If it hadn't been sold already. Its branches curled, just like Lukas' hair.

He frowned then. "Eight hours? Jeez." Eight hours, without recovery time. And they were only two hours in. It was going to be a long day. Colouring books actually sounded pretty appealing. Or a nap. Was it bad manners to catch a nap while everyone was waiting for news? Probably.

He finished his slice of pizza and wiped the grease from his hands onto a napkin, ensuring he wiped the grease off of his ring.

"Oh my God!" Morgan shrieked, and Peter looked at her, alarmed. Then he saw the smile on her face, and he knew she must have seen Daniel's ring. Oh no. This was about to be a thing. "M... wait..." He tried, but nope, too late.

Grabbing Daniel's hand, she squealed. "You're engaged?! Ugh, that's so romantic! And the ring, it's gorgeous!" Steve and Thor didn't seem surprised. Peter wondered if they'd known about the ring.

"You're what, now?" Came the deep voice of Bruce, as he stepped into their section of the waiting area, which frankly, was just them.

Oh no. It was definitely a thing now. Daniel knew he should've taken the ring off and kept it in his pocket or something until he wasn't in a room with a large handful of Peter's family.

Instead, he was at Morgan's mercy as she grabbed his hand and gushed over the ring. She had a point though, it was a gorgeous ring.

His heart stopped when he heard Bruce's booming voice. He pulled his hand away from Morgan and looked at him with those wide doe eyes, just like a stunned deer in the headlights. "We... um... that is... I mean... We're engaged? Sir. If we have your blessing?"

"You're what?" Bruce repeated, his in need of a haircut curly hair falling over his eyes. Peter flinched a little, even though he knew Bruce would never hit him. "I swear, Pop, I wasn't planning on bringing it up today. But Dad, he's the one who gave me the ring. He knew I had it." He babbled, he was nervous.

Bruce lifted his glasses up on top of his head. "He what? You're seventeen, and you think it's okay to get married?" He asked, and there was a slam on the table over where Jessa was sitting with Steve and Thor.

"Bruce, no one said they're getting married today." Jessa said, and Peter's mouth dropped open. "They're engaged. Sometimes people find who they're meant to be with when they're young. It happens."

Peter didn't think he'd ever heard her say so many words at once.

Daniel jumped when Jessa slammed the table, his heart hammering in his chest. His eyes widened at her outburst. He had begun to think that she didn't talk at all, that she communicated solely in glares and looks. But she spoke real words and she was defending them.

He still felt very much like he was about to be murdered and/or Hulk smashed through the nearest wall. He looked incredibly uncomfortable and turned to Peter, speaking in a hushed voice.

"Maybe I should go? Call me when Mr Stark is out of theater?"

"No. No." Peter said firmly, grabbing Daniel's arm. "You're staying. Dad would want you here." Peter said, just as firmly as he had started out. He refused to let Daniel be scared away from being here.

He looked at his sister. "Thanks, Jessa. I really appreciate it." He knew she wasn't going to want flowery declarations or anything. She just gave him a nod. Peter nodded back and then turned his attention to Bruce. "Please, Pop, you know it's true. Dad loves Daniel. He was there for Dad when you weren't." He didn't mean this as a hurtful thing, but he knew it would be.

It was hurtful, Bruce's face was sorrowful, and he brushed a hand through his hair. "I... I know. You're right." He said, and looked at Daniel. "You can stay, LaRusso."

Daniel shrank in on himself, making his already tiny self even smaller. If it was possible for a human to turn invisible without superpowers then that was definitely what he would be doing.

Peter's family terrified him. Maybe marrying into said family wasn't such a great idea. But he loved Peter. He loved Peter with his whole heart. And that meant accepting the scary family too.

He gave a nod, and slipped his hand into Peter's, doing his best to avoid eye contact with anyone.

Peter looked at Lukas. "Hey, kiddo, you want to go to the gift shop with me and Daniel? Maybe Uncle Tony would like a present." He ruffled the kid's dark curls with his free hand. He thought maybe they should go breathe some air that wasn't full of tension.

Lukas nodded. "Yay! Let's go!" He said, holding up his arms to Daniel. "Up!" He commanded, giggling. Peter stood. tugging Daniel's hand. "Come on, babe." He said, and met Thor's eyes, who gave him a nod, telling him it was alright to take Lukas with him.

"Up, up!" Lukas giggled more, jumping a little. He was excited.

Daniel gave Peter a thankful look. He got to his feet and scooped Lukas up in his arms, resting him on his hip. He felt a little guilty, after all, he was supposed to be there to support Peter in his time of need, not causing a scene and having a freak-out.

Once they were out of the room and on the way to the gift shop Daniel looked over at Peter. "Thank you. Sorry. I just... I needed to breathe."

"It's okay, babe." Peter told him, a finger hooked in his belt loop. Lukas was bouncing happily on Daniel's slim hip, looking around at everything there was to see, oblivious to the conversation. Peter knew Daniel hadn't meant to start anything. It had all happened so fast, and it was out of Daniel's hands.

"What was with Jessalyn standing up for us?! I mean, I'm glad, but who the h saw that coming!?" He asked, remembering to watch his words just in case Lukas did hear. He didn't want to have to explain to the God of Thunder and Captain America why their son knew a bad word. Especially when he knew the Norse word for it.

"I don't think I've ever even heard her say that many words before, and definitely not altogether like that. It sure was something though!" Maybe she didn't want to murder him, after all. Although, Daniel was still pretty sure that Bruce wanted to kill him.

"I don't think your Pop likes me all that much. Too bad my Jersey charm doesn't have the same effect on him that it did on your dad."

"Don't worry, Pop will calm down. He's just worried about Dad." Peter said, Lukas adjusted in Daniel's arms, one arm was wrapped around his slim shoulders, his other hand on his chest, and he was humming a song under his breath. Peter snuck a glance at him, and giggled.

Then he turned back to their conversation. "I've heard her say more, but not often, and it's not usually in my favor. She's... it's weird." Peter said, shaking his head.

Lukas was seriously the cutest kid ever. Daniel hoped if he and Peter ever had kids that they'd be like him. That was a discussion for way down the line though. They were way too young to be thinking about children.

"No offence, babe. But your whole family is weird," Daniel teased, shooting Peter a grin. But he had a point, they were a little out there. Then again, the fact he was living with a fifty-plus-year-old man and working in his little tree shop was probably just as weird to some people.

"Oh please, says the man who's family takes the cake for weird, Mr. Italian." Peter smirked, ruffling Lukas' curls. He'd always thought it was weird Lukas had gotten Odin's hair color. Not when both Thor and Steve were blonde. Lukas stuck his tongue out at him.

"Daniel's not weird." He told him, and Peter broke out laughing. "Okay, okay, he's not. I forgot, you're the president of the Daniel LaRusso fan club."
