Minor Injury Meme


A meme for those minor injuries that won't leave you down but make it hard to live your life. The breaks, sprains, and the hurt/comfort that comes with them.

INJURIES

1. SPRAIN: you stepped the wrong way, twisted the wrong way, and something has gone terribly wrong. Just remember RICE - Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation.

2. FRACTURE: You step off the sidewalk, working in the backyard, and suddenly BAM!! But it's not a sprain, oh no, you're in a cast for the duration. Good luck trying to get to work.

3. PULLED: It's not bad enough for medical attention but it still hurts something fierce. Break out the tiger balm or someone to give you a hand because you've pulled something. That awkward moment when you think you want vicodin...and nobody will give it to you.

4. MIGRAINE: Light hurts, air hurts, moving hurts. All you can do is lie in a darkened room and pray for the pounding pain to go away behind your eyes.

5. THE FLU: Maybe you're physically fine – well… all your limbs are working. You just feel like death warmed over.

6. WILDCARD: Anything else you can think of.

SCENARIOS

1. INJURED! WHAT NEXT?: You're out working, you're out having fun, you're out doing something when suddenly you step, twist, move and our bodies demonstrate just how fragile they really are. Quick! someone call the ambulance!

2. THE EMERGENCY ROOM: All the fun of a waiting room with rewards that include crutches, casts, X-Rays, vicodin, and sometimes just that one nurse who says "Yeah there's nothing wrong with you that'll be 400 dollars."

3. HOME AND SETTING UP THE NEST: Hurt, trying to make a space for you to get around. Hopefully someone is there to help you get to your crutches so you can go to the bathroom and make yourself something to eat.

4. PHYSICAL THERAPY HOME EDITION: The obligatory smut option. Do you not see that I'm wearing this cast?

5. OH GOD HELP I'M GOING TO DIE: That awkward moment when the fact that you are bedridden is crushing down on you and you're terrified you'll do something to make the injury worse. Snappish, angry, and rude - who are you going to take it out on?

6. DRIVE ME TO THE DOCTOR THIS SHIT IS COMING OFF: It's time, they say you can come in, take it off, and begin the next stage of recovery. Failing that, you’re going to grab a saw and cut the damn thing off yourself! Will there be joy, laughter, crying, happiness?

7. WILDCARD: Anything else you can think of.

"Uh, yes, sir. That is correct. He proposed to me earlier today," Daniel murmured, trying to avoid looking at Bruce. If he wasn't holding Lukas in his arms then he would definitely be chewing on his thumbnail nervously.

"I realise that a tree seller from Reseda is probably not what you envisioned as your future son-in-law, but I love him. I do. I know we're young. But I love him with all of my heart."

"It has nothing to do with what you do for a living, or who you are as a person, Daniel." Bruce replied, sighing and taking off his glasses, to rub them clean. He looked at the kid, who still seemed so nervous. "Calm down, I know you think I hate you, but I don't."

Bruce put his glasses back on. "That's what I'm worried about. The fact that my son isn't even out of high school yet, and he's engaged. He's barely lived, how can he know that you're the only person he wants to be with for the rest of his life? I don't doubt that you love each other. I just think the being engaged part can wait."

"With respect, sir, an engagement isn't a prison sentence, it's not a cage. I love Petey and I want to spend the rest of my life with him. But if any point he changes his mind and decides I'm not what he wants, as much as it would kill me, I would respect his decision."

Daniel always fell in love hard and fast. First Ali, then Kumiko. He had loved them oh so much. But what he felt for Peter was so much more. Being apart from him made his chest physically ache. He didn't want to picture a life without Peter in it. But, at the same time, he wouldn't force Peter to stay if he wanted to leave.

He toyed with the ring on his finger. "This ring is a symbol of promise and commitment, sure, but just because we're engaged doesn't mean I'll be dragging him down the aisle today or tomorrow or even months from now. Everything will happen when or if he's ready. I would never force him into anything he wasn't comfortable with, sir."

"I didn't say it was, kiddo." Bruce said, running a hand through his hair again. "I know that you won't force him to do anything. If I thought that was the case, you wouldn't still be breathing." Bruce kept his eyes on Daniel, wanting him to know he was serious. Bruce didn't really know how to put the point of what he had to say across without sounding like a jerk.

Sighing, he said, "I just think that neither of you really knows what you want. You think you want to get married, but you haven't gone anywhere or done anything. I just think that you're making a decision that is going to hurt you both when you end up changing your mind."

Daniel's jaw tensed, his teeth grinding hard. He got it. They were young. Bruce didn't want to see his kid get hurt. But it also really sucked to have an adult invalidate their feelings because of their age.

"My Ma always said that when you meet the one you just know. I didn't really get what she meant. How? How could anyone just know? But then I met Petey and I finally understood what she meant."

He shifted a little, repositioning Lukas slightly to stop his arm from falling to sleep. "And who knows? Maybe it'll all end in heartache down the line. But I love him and I want to be with him for as long as he'll have me. I'm sorry you don't approve. But I am in love with your son."

Bruce could tell that he'd angered the kid. That was a plus, for Peter. The kid was ready to defend their relationship with Bruce. Bruce's own jaw flexed. "I do think it's impressive that you're defending your decision to me, and refusing to back down." He told him.

This is when Peter came back, so Lukas could go see Tony. "Um, what's going on?" He asked, sensing the tension in the room. Peter could tell it wasn't as bad as he was thinking, since no one had gotten upset enough to wake up Lukas. So they still had the sense to keep it at least civil.

"Nothing, we've just been talking." Bruce replied, looking at Peter, giving him a small smile.

Impressive? Or dumb? It was hard to tell. The way Daniel's heart was hammering in his chest probably pointed towards the latter. Only an idiot would knowingly standoff against Bruce. But Daniel loved Peter. He wasn't going to just roll over and surrender. He was too stubborn and hard-headed for that.

Daniel gave a nod and smiled over at Peter. "Yeah, we were just chatting. You ready for this little guy yet because my arm is going to sleep."

Peter didn't believe them at all, but he also knew that pressing the matter right now wasn't the best thing. "Um, yeah, plus, Dad wants to see you too." He said, kneeling so he could wake up Lukas.

"Hey, buddy, are you ready to see Uncle Tony?" He asked, shaking Lukas' shoulder. He woke up, blue eyes blinking. Then he saw Peter, who had picked up the bear Lukas had picked out. A grin spread across Lukas' face. "Yeah!" He said, nodding, and slipping off Daniel's lap.

"Come on, Daniel!" He said, taking Daniel's hand and tugging.

Daniel gave his arm a shake to wake it up, flexing and relaxing his fist a few times until he had all the feeling back in his fingers, before willingly letting the other boy drag him along.

"Are you sure he wants to see me, Pete? I don't want to intrude on family time," Daniel said once they were out of earshot of Bruce. Even if technically, Daniel was a couple of vows away from being family.

"Sweetheart, you are family." Peter told him, kissing his cheek. He opened the door to Tony's room, and Lukas let go of both of their hands to run at Tony's bed. He was awake, and while he definitely didn't look as haggard as he had before the new heart, he did look a bit older. Tired.

But a smile spread over his features. "Hey, kiddo!" He said, as Lukas used the chair next to his bed to climb up into the bed with him, hugging him gently. "Look, Uncle Tony, I got you a present!" He declared, showing him the Hulk teddy bear. Tony smiled at him, and took it. "I love it, sweetie. I'm so glad to see you."

Tony hugged him gently and then turned his gaze to Daniel. "Hey, kid! I'm glad to see you too, and to call you family!" He added, switching Lukas to his other side so he could reach out and tug Daniel close enough to hug him.

Daniel leaned into the hug and let out a shaky breath. He had been trying so hard to stay positive and upbeat for Peter, but he had been absolutely terrified that something would go wrong during the surgery. He had already lost his own dad, he didn't want to lose his future father-in-law too.

He held on tight, and for a little longer than necessary. As much as he loved Mr Miyagi - and he did love him, completely, but he wasn't big on hugging and sometimes all Daniel needed in life was a great big dad hug. Tony just happened to give great dad hugs.

"It's good to see you, Mr Stark. Look at you, awake and talking. That's great. It's real great."

"Hey, hey. It's okay. I'm okay." Tony told him, hugging him back. He knew Daniel had lost his own dad, and he wanted to be there for him. Daniel had been there for him when they were virtually strangers, and he was never going to forget that. Tony said, "You call me Tony. Or Dad, if you want." He told him.

Then he grinned. "Let me see the ring!" He lifted Daniel's hand so he could see how it looked. "It looks amazing! I'm so happy for you kids. Don't worry about my grumpy husband, okay? I won't let him hurt you." He whispered this last part to Daniel, so Lukas wouldn't hear.

Peter sat down on the chair, and pulled Daniel into his lap. He wrapped both arms around his fiancé's waist. "We're not letting it get to us, Dad. It's okay." Peter said, Lukas, having done what he'd been waiting to do, curled up next to Tony and fell asleep.

Daniel showed the ring off proudly, wiping away the stray tears on his cheeks. "It fits perfectly." He still couldn't believe that Tony had all but pimped his son out to him. Not that he was complaining. He was happier with Peter than he had ever been before.

"Oh crap... we still haven't told my Ma..." She was going to be pissed that she hadn't been the first to know. They still needed to tell Mr Miyagi too.

He settled on Peter's lap, resting his head on Peter's shoulder. He wouldn't say what Bruce had said to him. He'd keep that to himself.

"It's so great to see you awake, Mr St-- Tony. It really is."

"Don't worry, okay? Everything is going to be okay." Tony said, waving his hand as the boys settled in the chair. He reached for his phone, carefully leaning over Lukas, who was sucking on his thumb and cuddled up close to Tony. He checked his texts. "Okay, Blondie and Old Man are on the way back with food." He said, putting it back down.

Then he was taking a long deep sip of a Diet Sprite. "I'm starving. I made sure to tell them to bring me something." He then gave them both a smile. "You look happy. I'm so so glad for you." He told them, sure that Bruce had said something that wasn't good about them being engaged. He had no doubt about it.

Peter rubbed up Daniel's back. "We are happy, Dad. I know that people aren't going to understand because we're so young. But that doesn't mean that we don't love each other." Peter said, pressing a kiss to the side of Daniel's head.

Daniel smiled soft and leaned into Peter more, resting his head against Peter's. He reached for Peter's hand and laced their fingers together. "Totally happy. Happier than I've ever been."

It was true. Being with Peter made him incredibly happy. Things were going well at the shop. Things were going well with Mr Miyagi. He spoke to his Ma on the phone regularly. Tony had his new heart and would be able to heal. Life was good.

Tony looked at them. "So, I have news to tell you." He said, his brown eyes settling on Lukas briefly, watching him sleep. Then he turned back to them. "Your dad and I decided we're going to adopt a baby." He said, brushing a hand through his hair, mussing it even more than it had already gotten mussed when he'd been making out with Bruce a bit.

Gasping, Peter said, "That's so great, Dad!" He wanted to ask if he knew about Darcy and her baby, but he wasn't going to take that away from his sister. She should have the right to tell their father herself. Even if Peter knew that she hadn't been planning it.

Daniel beamed, crooked teeth showing, those big brown eyes crinkling at the corners. "Oh wow, Tony. That's awesome. You and Bruce are great parents. Any baby will be so lucky to get adopted by you guys. Seriously, that's absolutely awesome," he said, still smiling bright.

Peter would get a new sibling. All those baby cuddles just waiting to be had. It was definitely exciting news. Besides, Tony and Bruce needed something positive to focus on after all the struggles with Tony's health.
