La Sirene Opening (Friday, August 13th)

La Sirene

Opening Night!
The opening of La Sirene, Little Wakanda's first nightclub, is finally here! Dinah has worked very hard to make sure the opening goes without a bang, and her hard work has definitely paid off!

Doors will open at 8PM, and as it is the opening weekend, cover charge is waived. There are drink specials all night, and a dj playing music for dancing. There bar and kitchen are both fully stocked and ready to go. While the opening is a 16+ event, anyone under the age of 21 will be carded, and Dinah has the best technology to detect fake ids, so probably not really smart to try it. Don't make her sic Helena on you. Trust me, that won't end well for you.

At some point, Dinah would taking the stage to perform a set, backed by a house band.

Peter definitely went to the opening. He loved what Dinah and Helena had been saying about having nights and events for teenagers, instead of just being a 21+ club all the time.

Peter was there before 8pm and left at 10:30. He didn't try to get alcohol. ;)

Henry was definitely at the club's opening. Earlier in the day he was running triple- and quadruple- checks on the security system, and making sure that all of the cameras were working properly. He'd spent quite a bit of time installing them with great care, and now the system was flawless. Well, almost. There were two spots that didn't get great coverage with the cameras (besides the bathrooms, which had no cameras), though he could fix that another time. He'd also set up a series of monitors in one of the staff-only rooms, connected to the cameras so a member of the security personnel could keep an eye from the one space. There were walkies in there, too, for communication.

At some point during the night, he'll get distracted by an employee complaining about how the Point-of-Sale system at the bar was counter-intuitive... and he'll take a few minutes to click through the screens before deciding his next project would be to redesign the entire POS system for the club.

Because he's far too geeky to think that dancing would be a good use of his time. ;)

Darcy had known all about the opening for the last few weeks and hadn't been intending on going, instead her plan had been to work on the calculations to ground Nat to this part of their timeline. However, Zari had other plans for the two of them and so Darcy was persuaded to take a night off and come out for the opening with her friend.

Darcy wore the little black dress Zari got for her during Zari's last shopping excursion (as Zari planned this all along). Her hair half up, half down and heels that gave her an inch and a half extra height so she didn't feel AS short as she actually was.

She definitely danced, and drank a little, not as much as some might, because she does have work in the morning.

Cath was definitely there. She'd brought a lot of goodies from the bakery to deliver for both the club employees and guests on this occasion. She'd been working her fingers to the bone and was completely exhausted, but incredibly happy that people seemed to like the food. It wasn't a huge meal, but definitely snacks enough for people to celebrate. And there was a huge cake for even more celebrations.

Cassie S. most certainly was there because dancing and bright lights? Yes, please! She, of course, tried nothing illegal (i.e. fake ids...etc!) but had a ton of fun! She would have been happy to dance with anyone and everyone if they wanted.

Natasha and Christine, while not attending, did send cards of well wishes! Nat sent along a bottle of nice wine for the ladies to celebrate with afterward.

Sharon put on a little, red dress and some killer pumps and headed to the club opening. She wanted to support the businesses of all of the refugees, and thought that Dinah and Helena seemed like good people. Besides, it would be interesting to do a little people-watching, have a drink, and say she'd gone out. She arrived around nine, and searched for Dinah and Helena to say hello. Her plan was to leave by ten.

Kate found the perfect dress. Her plan was to take some shots and dance dance dance. Dance like she didn't give a fuck who was watching--because let's face it: she didn't. She showed up just after the place opened and could spend hours on the dance floor.

Zari was beyond ready to be Seen, as she walked in with her LBD (emphasis on little) and a pair of surprisingly beautiful stilettos. She kept herself mostly to cocktails and mixed drinks, but didn't go overboard. Oh, but she danced as much and as hard as she could with anyone who asked.

(Clint was there too, in nice jeans and something tight and purple. There might have been a slight Effort involved. He danced some and drank some and generally came to hang out and have a good time.

Derek came with Steve, but couldn't stay long. Literally could not. Between the lights and the sounds and the people—this was not the place for a person with supernaturally heightened senses, but he recognized that it was important to support the opening and what it meant for the community they were creating under these circumstances.)

Steve showed up with Derek. They were there for about an hour. Probably had a couple of beers, danced one dance, then left. (And Scott was welcome--nay, encouraged--to ride back to the Facility with them.)

Helena:. Helena was at the door, carding people and letting people in. She was ready to knock the shit out of anyone that ruined the night.

Carol:. Carol came, but mostly hung out at the bark and watched the dancing. She wanted to support the locals.

Madison:. Madison came in a dress that was far too short for her with a fake ID. If the ID didn't work, she flirted with people to get them to buy her drinks.

Mantis:. Mantis came and loved it!!! She danced on the floor, laughed, and enjoyed the music and colors! She would also approach Dinah about her singing and gawk over how amazing and beautiful she was.

Miles:. He showed up if it was allowing the under 21 crowd in. He danced like an idiot and tried flirting with older women. It was awkward.


Tony, Wash, Bucky, Melina, and Sally did not attend. Tony was busy with things, but he definitely sent his well-wishes and a case of good whiskey for the club. Wash was oblivious. Bucky was with Nat. Melina does not care for loud music and Sally was busy with the coffee shop, but did send well wishes!

The club was hopping. Dinah and Helena had done a fantastic job and tomorrow - well... maybe the day after because they were probably going to be sleeping in tomorrow - she needed to call them and gush about how great tonight had been. Darcy was glad Zari had convinced her to come out, a night away from the lab and equations was exactly what she needed. But, all the dancing meant that she was in need of a drink. She excused herself, taking mental note of where Zari was before heading towards the bar.

There was no line when she got there, which Darcy thought was odd, but given that it was opening night, most people were probably taking advantage of table service. At first she didn't see anyone behind it and nearly left, figuring that all the wait staff was on the floor, but then noticed someone hunched down under the bar.

"Hey," she called, trying to peer over. "Sorry. I wanted to order a drink. If something's up and this is a bad time, I can come back," she called over the din of the club.

Henry went behind the bar when he overheard one of the waitstaff complaining about the register. He thought maybe he could help with it--and he had his employee badge to let him into the system. Of course, it was a mess: whoever had designed this point-of-sale system had clearly designed it for something other than a bar. It was too complicated, too messy. It was hard for the employees to find the drinks they wanted to find, and there was a mess trying to get logged in and out of the system. It wasn't great, and Henry thought maybe he could do better.

When Darcy came toward the bar, Henry was bent down over the thing, checking out the device's wiring. He debated if a set of iPads would work better--they wouldn't have to be constrained to the hardware from the POS people, and he knew how to create some killer apps using the apple hardware.

Then he heard a voice and looked up. Was someone talking to him? Before his eyes could register the woman on the other side of the bar, he was responding with a quick, "Oh, no, I don't work here--" but the words stopped somewhere mid-sentence when he recognized the face. The beautiful face.

"Uh... hi." He said, after picking his jaw up off the floor. "Darcy. Hi. It's uh, Henry. Foss. Wow, you look..." He cleared his throat. "Are you enjoying the party? Oh, uh, can I get you a drink?" While he was technically not a bartender, he was an employee of the club. So he could get her a drink. Right?

Of all the people she'd been expecting to be crouching behind the bar of Dinah's club, the last one that would have come to mind was Henry Foss. She'd been speaking with him on the network for the last couple of days - flirting was probably a more apt description (a little bit never hurt anyone). But a bartender he was not. Still, she smiled as he seemed to trip over his words, giving him the time he needed to get his equilibrium back.

"You just seem to pop up in very interesting places don't you?" she teased, leaning against the bar, to make space for someone who was passing behind her. "And thanks. Someone actually this for me. So far the opening's going great, I can't remember the last time I took a night off away from work," as being in space hadn't really counted.

"I was hoping to get a rum and diet, but since you don't work here, I'm more curious what you're doing back there." She tilted her head to the side, her lips quirking into a look that asked 'well?' It was just as easy to talk to him here as it had been on the network. Which was nice.

Henry might have blushed. He might have blushed and he might have grinned. He might have blushed, grinned, and ducked his chin to his chest at that. Interesting places, hmm? Not that this was all that interesting. Just... behind the bar at a club's grand opening. Okay, so it might have been interesting.

"I guess so?" He responded, then nodded. "You should absolutely tell whoever that was that the dress is fantastic. You look amazing." Then he realized he was probably gushing, and cleared his throat. "I'm glad you got the night off. You deserve a little fun." ...it didn't seem to be getting much better.

"Oh. Well. I do sorta work for the club. I installed the security system." He motioned toward the cameras up above the bar, clearly visible. They were sensitive to low-light, and would catch the entire bar area. Even the register where he was inspecting. "And I'm thinking this Point-of-sale system could stand an upgrade."

"Trust me, Zari knows. All of this," she indicated the dress by running a hand down the length of it, "was part of an evil scheme of hers to get me here tonight. She's a good friend." Darcy took a second, smiling at his words and making a note to actually pass the on to Zari, before adding, "You don't look so bad yourself."

Fun was... relative. And she knew it. Especially with what was going on, but every so often a brain break was needed. And for all her touting of self-care, she was really bad at taking care of herself.

"That's what you meant when you told Clint you'd be busy until after the opening!" Darcy put the pieces together from the netpost she'd seen the other day. Peering over the side she saw the register. "Honestly, if that's the one thing that goes wrong opening night, I think they can call it a huge success. No falling lights, no drunk people smashing up displays. Just one procedural upgrade? They'd be golden!"

She paused for a moment before looking back at him. "Wait... you- you mean you were going to do the upgrade now?"

"Well, I should be thanking Zari, then." Henry grinned, letting it go at that. When she complimented her, he looked confused for a moment, then glanced down at his own outfit. For a dude who was so at home in cargo pants, band t-shirts and flannels, Henry could dress up if he needed to. Tonight he was in a button-up shirt and a pair of slacks. Not super dressy, but way more than he would normally do. He almost asked her why she meant by that, but she went on.

"...yes? Yes. I was really busy setting up the cameras." He motioned again. "It took... well, a lot of time." Especially considering he had to mount them all and drill holes and run the cable. But it was worth it: the building was way, way more secure with the cameras on. "I haven't been doing much of anything else. I had to assemble the hardware because this world doesn't have exactly what I was looking for."

Then he shook his head. "Oh no! No. I just wanted to know what I'm dealing with. I think getting some iPads would work better than these register things. They're flimsy, and I think I can design stronger software on the Apple platform. It's gonna take me some time, though."

"Given how big this place is, I'm not surprised it too you so long, but you did a good job. If you hadn't pointed it out, I wouldn't have known there was a camera there at all." Which was what you wanted in your security. She moved, turning so she could lean her side up against the bar, a slightly more comfortable position than having to lean forward against it.

"Would you be surprised to learn that this world doesn't have the equipment that some of its natives need either?" she asked with a small smirk. "I feel that every time either me or Jane need something for sciencing we either need to make it ourselves or cobble it together with pieces of other things and a ton of duct tape." Which, as she'd said before, was her friend in the forest.

"Don't let Tony hear you say that. He might try to get you to use a StarkPad instead. He's been trying to get me to switch to their version of the Ipod, I think I'm slowly killing him that I refuse to switch." It was more of a playful argument at this point, because she would never give up her ipod. Ever.

"So, you going to be sticking around?" she nodded to the party still going on behind them.

The cameras around the Club's rooms weren't entirely hidden, but they weren't super obvious, either. And they were high-res. The images that were being recorded onto the drive in the back room were really clear. Henry was proud of his work, though. Especially because he had to do some fancy tech stuff to make it all work.

"Somehow that doesn't surprise me. I found myself doing the same thing where I come from. Lots of duct tape and pulling apart old tech to make something new. I had to create a lot of weaponry on the fly." Henry was really curious about Jane. Maybe some day she'd show up here.

"Ah. Well. I'd have to learn the OS on the StarkPads, but I'm sure it could be done eventually. Do they run Linux? Truthfully, Apple makes really good tech for this world. We had something a little different in mine, and that's what I would normally go for." He grinned again.

"I... guess?" He said, looking over her shoulder at the party, then back to her. "I mean, I think I owe you a rum and diet, anyway. I don't have any other pressing engagements tonight."

After ordering her drink and wandering around the club space for a little while, Sharon was nervous that she was going to have to leave before running into Dinah and/or Helena to congratulate them on the celebration of the club's opening. It seemed like they had a hit on their hands--the place was hopping with people. Drinks were flowing, music was pumping, and Sharon was getting a little swept up in the enthusiastic energy of the evening.

She turned around the side of the bar to try and find a place to drink her drink where she could see the majority of the room, when she saw a woman she recognized. A bright grin stretched her lips. "Zari?? I should have known I'd see you here!"

"Share!" Zari somehow managed to wave her bright pink drink at her friend without spilling a drop. The club scene was practically her second home, and she could navigate the room like a shark if need be. The cocktail was her second, and she hadn't bought either of them. Nice to know she still had it. She very brazenly checked Sharon out, giving her a slow once-over that ended in a wink and a smile. "Lady in red, looking like you could set this place on fire. There was no way I was going to miss a club opening. Especially not when it's being run by a pair of kick-ass ladies. How've you been?"

Sharon gave a little turn when Zari blatantly checked her out, then laughed playfully and leaned in to kiss her friend's cheek. She really needed a night out. With so much concern over the recent flight to space, and the other things that went along with the insanity of this place, a night out to dance and drink and have some fun was exactly what she needed. And with Zari here, it was bound to be a good time.

"I would never set the place on fire! Too many people. Too much stampeding." Sharon grinned to show she'd been kidding. "I've been good! Taking it easy. Taking it slow. What about you? You look fantastic. Those heels kill me. They kill me! Fantastic!"

"Not to mention having the fire marshal rock up to your opening is a social kiss of death. Having the police shut you down, on the other hand, depending on the reason, is almost a guarantee of instant success. But! Let's not tempt the Fates unless we absolutely have to. Two of them are completely catty bitches anyway. The third one's a sweetheart. Long story, but aren't they all?"

While she'd been nattering on, she'd taken Sharon's drink and was navigating a small, prime table that had just opened up. (See? Shark.) Zari stopped before sliding up on a stool to turn her heel out a bit and do her own turn. More than a few guys (and gals) were definitely watching them both from the dance floor. "Thanks, babe. I totally splurged. Did I tell you I've started a website? My follower count is climbing, and I've been using a tiny bit of lab space to work on the supplement business I had back home. I'm not sure if I can quite get to where I was before, but it's good to try at least. We can't all be jet-setting super agents."

She looked around the room, feigning innocence. "Any chance a certain Asgardian ruler might be in attendance tonight?"

"Excellent points, all. I wouldn't wish the kiss of death on this place. We've got to watch out for each other, after all." Sharon raised an eyebrow at her friend. "Are you name-dropping Fates, Zar?"

But then Zari had taken Sharon's drink and was working her way through the crowd to a recently opened table, and Sharon had no choice but to follow. "No, you didn't tell me that. What website? I'll have to be one of your many, many followers." She slipped onto one of the seats at the table, perching carefully on the edge. Sharon was one of those people who could name every exit around the room, every threat, every possible weapon. She had a count of how many lights were in the room, how many tables, how many employees, how many bottles behind the bar. All of it. "I'm sure you could be a jet-setting super agent if you put your mind to it." She reached for her drink to snatch it back and have another little sip, but paused with the glass half-way to her lips.

"What?" Sharon turned to look at her friend, feeling a warmth burning in her cheeks. "Who?"

She could laugh about it now, but the horror the Fates had sewn in their lives at the time still lived deep down in her psyche. Good thing she wasn't about to unpack that anytime soon. She was out in a jumping club, now with her smoking hot friend. There was time enough for baggage later.

"Just look for 'dragongirlbites', you'll find me. It's not much yet, but it's giving me something to do." Zari had to laugh at the very idea of being in Sharon's position. "As a honeypot, maybe. Seducing my way into state secrets. Could be fun, and a sexy kind of dangerous."

And then she really laughed at her friend's reaction. "Wow, you are good! You know perfectly well who, Share. Please tell me he's coming out. I have an irrational need to see the two of you dance."

Sharon gave a little laugh at the wink. She shook her head. "No idea why you're hanging out with me, then. If it's all about who you know? You're wasting your time with a government cog in the wheel like me." An unwilling cog at that.

"Dragongirlbites. I've got you. I'll find it." She drew her data pad out of her pocket and started tapping the screen to open up the search tab. "I can absolutely see you as a honeypot. You'd be good at it. A honeypot assassin, even." Now it was her turn to wink.

Sharon shook her head, grinning softly. "We're not... like that. Definitely not in public." She lifted the glass to sip again. "Besides, this is absolutely not his scene. I would be shocked if he even considered coming out tonight."

"Don't sell yourself short, sweets. I know who my friends are, and my friends are always amazing." Zari reached out and lightly touched the back of Sharon's hand before withdrawing again and taking another sip of her drink.

She laughed, throwing her head back. "At the seduction part maybe, and I come ready made with my own handy-dandy mystical weapon, but I wouldn't exactly call it lethal. Something tells me the ancestors wouldn't look too kindly on me stealing the air from people's lungs. And, let's face it, I'd be putting people on social media blast left and right. 'OMG, here I am in sunny wherever, and you will not believe the genocide this high ranking general is planning! Hashtag-Assassin Z, hashtag-kicking ass, hashtag-CIA for life."

After she'd gotten her laughter under control, Zari nodded her understanding, and then grinned brightly at her. "That means I can steal a few dances! I'm seriously the winner here. Loki's got no idea what he's missing out on, other than some premium PR optics."

Sharon chuckled softly and nodded. "If you insist. I will take the compliment." She lifted her glass with her free hand and clinked it against Zari's before lowering it again. She hadn't had much of it, but she could tell that it was quite strong. She wanted to be able to drive back to New Asgard tonight, so she didn't want to get tipsy.

The list of hashtags had Sharon laughing. She shook her head. She had a vivid picture of Zari in a tight dress, holding up a peace sign, winking with duck lips at the camera, and a list of hashtags a mile-long underneath. "Hashtag Assassin Z. That's my favorite. You're getting saved in my phone that way."

Sharon felt either the alcohol or the compliment or the beautiful woman in front of her burning up her cheeks. "Can we finish our drinks first?" She asked, trailing a fingertip around the edge of the glass. "Or do you have to have those dances now? I have to warn you, I've got two left feet."

It was a really nice feeling to make people laugh, especially when much of the time she was generally being laughed at. Zari squealed in happiness and did a little dance on her stool. "I love it! I mean, I'll never live up to it, but it's fun to imagine."

Even with the flashing lights, she thought she detected a flush on her friend's cheeks, and couldn't help but think, Still got it. "Of course we can. You'd be surprised how much a little social lubrication can improve your dancing ability. And besides, all you've gotta do is follow my lead. I won't let you fall."

Sharon took a few swipes to steal one of Zari's images from her social media account, then used that as a profile picture for her friend's profile. Then Sharon changed Zari's name in her phone to #AssassinZ. It made Sharon laugh, so she held out the phone for Zari to see.

"Good. Because I wouldn't forgive you if you bruised me up. I have legs to show off in this dress, you know." She took another sip from the drink, then broke into a grin. "All right, let's get on that dance floor."
