Entry tags:complete, day 17, ianto jones, jack harkness

Who: Captain Jack Harkness, Ianto Jones
What: Jack and Ianto meeting after Ianto’s kidnapping.
When: Day 17. Evening.
Where: The hallway outside Ianto’s room.
Rating: TBD
Status: Incomplete

Jack let himself back into the building that had been his home for more than two weeks, and what was now beginning to look like it would be his home for a great deal longer than that.

It was, he told himself, as he walked up the stairs, completely ridiculous to be even remotely annoyed at Ianto for not having been in when he’d knocked on his door earlier that morning. Ianto was his own man, and while they where together after a fashion, he could hardly expect Ianto to be in and waiting for him all the time.

He’d meant to call in on Ianto the previous evening, but by the time that he’d got back to his room it had been the early hours of the morning and he hadn’t thought it fair to wake Ianto.

Jack hadn’t meant to be out so long, he’d just meant to go for a walk, something to clear his head a little and get things in perspective. To remind himself that while he didn’t currently have the means to leave the planet, he was far from trapped. Falling asleep in the warm afternoon sunshine and sleeping until dark hadn’t been part of what he’d planned. Neither had the walking in circles for nearly an hour while he tried to get home.

After Ianto hadn’t opened his door when Jack had knocked to see if he wanted breakfast with him, he’d spent the morning wandering, trying to find something to catch and hold his attention, a task at which Jack had failed. After coming to the conclusion that he was either looking in the wrong place or there was truly little of interest going on. He’d made his way back to the accommodation to ask Ianto if he wanted any lunch.

When Ianto still hadn’t answered Jack had gone to down to the pool, trying not to be annoyed at the fact that Ianto had obvious gone off somewhere without him or was just avoiding him. He’d flirted a bit with the men and women there, but eventually he’d tired of it and decided that he’d go back to his room.

Jack was just about to let himself into his own room when he glanced down the corridor and saw a familiar figure standing outside the door to Ianto’s rooms.

“Been somewhere nice?” Jack called out as he walked over to Ianto. It was a little more irritable than he’d intended it to be, but honestly if Ianto was just going to go off for the day couldn’t he have left a note or something?

Jack knew that he had absolutely no ground to stand on regards to running off without leaving a note, however that wasn’t something that was foremost in his mind at that moment.

Jack opened his mouth to speak, and then closed it again. He wanted to tell Ianto that he'd cared for a long time, that he always would. The reminder that he rarely showed that care seemed to make the feeling of guilt over not realising Ianto was missing worse.

"I know you do, and it's appreciated," Jack said as stood up, adding sheepishly, "I just wanted to return the favour." He felt awkward talking about things like this. Sex he could talk about, combat, and aliens and time travel with no problem. But deeper feelings, he'd tried to keep out of the mix. It was a survival tactic, a defense mechanism to keep them and himself from hurting, but somehow, just by being there, Ianto made it impossible for him to do that and damn but that scared him.

Jack wandered through to the bathroom before he said anything else, said something too revealing.

He liked the bath in Ianto's room, it was big enough for two, and never seemed to run short of hot water. Turning on the taps he listened to the running water for a moment, before unhooking his braces and removing his shirt.

Knowing that the bath would take a while to fill, Jack, now in a tee-shirt and braces hanging loose, went to find out how far Ianto had got with making tea.

Ianto paused and studied Jack, then slowly smiled in understanding. "Thank you," he murmured. "I appreciate you doing it too."

Jack went into the bathroom then. When he came back, Ianto turned, opening his mouth to say something. His words died in his throat as he eyed Jack up and down with bright eyes. He loved seeing Jack in his tee shirt. It made it easier to see the hard muscles and strong planes of his chest. Try as he might, Ianto could never get himself to look that good.

His mind started to wander, thinking about that strong body pressing him down into a warm, firm mattress then shook his head slightly. He was supposed to be making tea, not daydreaming.

Jack grinned as he saw Ianto's expression, knowing his usual reaction to having Jack walking around half dressed.

"The bath will be a few minutes," Jack said as he got a couple of mugs out of the cupboard for Ianto. He reasoned that he might as well have some tea as well, as it didn't take any more time to put on the kettle for two people than it did for one.

He let his hand brush against Ianto's as he handed him the mugs, a little reassuring gesture before he asked him, "This woman that took you, did she say why?"

Jack knew it probably wasn't really the best time to ask, but he needed to know why, because in his experience if you knew why somebody was doing something you tended to be a lot more prepared when it came to stopping them. Not that he wanted there to be a repeat performance, hopefully whoever that woman was she'd stay clear of Ianto from now on.

"Thank you," Ianto said as he took the cups and set them down on the counter. He shook his head. "No, I have no idea why she targeted me or the other people I was with. It seemed to be completely random. I'm just glad no one was seriously injured."

He turned to Jack, resting his hand lightly on his arm for a moment in a comforting gesture. "Don't worry about it. If I see her again, I will stay very clear of her, I promise."
