Entry tags:complete, day 17, ianto jones, jack harkness

Who: Captain Jack Harkness, Ianto Jones
What: Jack and Ianto meeting after Ianto’s kidnapping.
When: Day 17. Evening.
Where: The hallway outside Ianto’s room.
Rating: TBD
Status: Incomplete

Jack let himself back into the building that had been his home for more than two weeks, and what was now beginning to look like it would be his home for a great deal longer than that.

It was, he told himself, as he walked up the stairs, completely ridiculous to be even remotely annoyed at Ianto for not having been in when he’d knocked on his door earlier that morning. Ianto was his own man, and while they where together after a fashion, he could hardly expect Ianto to be in and waiting for him all the time.

He’d meant to call in on Ianto the previous evening, but by the time that he’d got back to his room it had been the early hours of the morning and he hadn’t thought it fair to wake Ianto.

Jack hadn’t meant to be out so long, he’d just meant to go for a walk, something to clear his head a little and get things in perspective. To remind himself that while he didn’t currently have the means to leave the planet, he was far from trapped. Falling asleep in the warm afternoon sunshine and sleeping until dark hadn’t been part of what he’d planned. Neither had the walking in circles for nearly an hour while he tried to get home.

After Ianto hadn’t opened his door when Jack had knocked to see if he wanted breakfast with him, he’d spent the morning wandering, trying to find something to catch and hold his attention, a task at which Jack had failed. After coming to the conclusion that he was either looking in the wrong place or there was truly little of interest going on. He’d made his way back to the accommodation to ask Ianto if he wanted any lunch.

When Ianto still hadn’t answered Jack had gone to down to the pool, trying not to be annoyed at the fact that Ianto had obvious gone off somewhere without him or was just avoiding him. He’d flirted a bit with the men and women there, but eventually he’d tired of it and decided that he’d go back to his room.

Jack was just about to let himself into his own room when he glanced down the corridor and saw a familiar figure standing outside the door to Ianto’s rooms.

“Been somewhere nice?” Jack called out as he walked over to Ianto. It was a little more irritable than he’d intended it to be, but honestly if Ianto was just going to go off for the day couldn’t he have left a note or something?

Jack knew that he had absolutely no ground to stand on regards to running off without leaving a note, however that wasn’t something that was foremost in his mind at that moment.

Ianto was very proud that he managed to not roll his eyes even though he almost did. Lovely. He'd just gotten kidnapped by some crazy lady and now he had to deal with a snippy Jack.

"I could ask you the same, sir," Ianto said in his 'I'm just going to be polite even though I'm feeling anything but' tone of voice. When Ianto called Jack sir, it usually meant he was not happy with the man at all. "If you must know, I was kidnapped by a woman in a catsuit. Perhaps she was looking for you and got us confused somehow. Seems like the kind of person who would want to rip off your, ahem, head." He didn't care if the captain figured out just which head of Jack's he was talking about. He just wanted to go into his room and lie down. Perhaps drink some tea. Yes, tea sounded wonderful.

"If you'll excuse me, sir." He opened his door and walked in, not caring if Jack followed him or not. Dignity be damned, he flopped down on his bed, staring up at the ceiling as he guessed just how many bruises he had from being dragged down stairs. He'd rest for a bit, then get up, make some tea, and take a nice, long, hot bath.

Any sense of annoyance that Jack had had was gone in an instant when Ianto turned to him and called him sir, telling him he's kidnapped.

For a moment Jack is torn between asking Ianto for a description of who kidnapped him and then going after them and making them regret ever touching him, and just kissing Ianto and holding him close and telling him that he's sorry that he wasn't there to keep him safe.

He'd failed him. Failed him like he'd failed so many others. It was the idea that he could have lost Ianto, that he could have been gone forever, could have been dead, and that he hadn't even noticed, that struck Jack the hardest of all leaving a cold, sick feeling in its wake.

Following Ianto inside, he closed the door behind them, and watched as Ianto lay down on his bed. The way he moved suggested to Jack that there were bruises. It made Jack more than ever want to track down just who did this to Ianto and make them pay.

Sitting down on the edge of the bed Jack stroked a hand down Ianto's face, images of Ianto after the events at Brynblaidd came unbidden to his mind.

"I'm sorry I said what I did," Jack said softly, as he stroked his hair soothingly into Ianto's hair, "Tell me what I can do to help." Because as much as he wanted to charge out gun drawn and spoiling for a fight, Jack knew that he was more use there with Ianto.

Ianto let out a heavy sigh, glad they weren't going to continue to bicker. "I'm alright, really. I've been through worse. Just got dragged down some stairs, got some bruises. Nothing that won't heal." He reached up and latched onto Jack's wrist, then slid his hand into Jack's, squeezing it. "I was locked up with two other people, Michiru Kaioh and Severus Snape. Michiru's... friend," Ianto said slowly, "Haruka couldn't find her so she and a few other people tracked us down, got us out."

He paused for a moment, watching Jack's face silently, reading it. "Don't blame yourself, Jack. There was no way you could have known. It's in the past and I'm fine. Slight loss of dignity, that's all," he said, a smile slowly growing.

Jack shook his head, he couldn't help but blame himself, "You were gone nearly a whole day. I should have noticed, I should have realised that something was wrong." He wondered how much longer it would have taken him to actually be worried enough to go looking, a couple more hours? Another day? Two days?

If it hadn’t been for Haruka and other the people, whoever they were, Ianto would still being held captive. Or worse. Closing his eyes, Jack didn’t want Ianto to see just how much the idea of losing him had shaken him, he squeezed Ianto's hand back.

After a moment he opened his eyes again and smiled at Ianto, saying, “Best thing for bruises is a good warm bath, you want me to run you one? I can get in with you, wash your back, it’ll be fun.” Ianto could tell him it’s just a few bruises all he wanted, but Jack would only really be reassured once he’d seen for himself.

Leaning forwards he kisses Ianto softly on the forehead, “Want anything to eat or drink before we get wet and naked?” Jack didn’t think it was particularly likely that Ianto would actually want to do anything other than just wash and then go to sleep, but this sort of banter between them was familiar and comforting, and he suspected that that might be welcome.

Ianto raised an eyebrow at Jack and gave him a peculiar look. "Since when did you become the one who takes care of me?" he asked, pushing himself up so he could sit on the end of the bed. "Usually it's the other way around," Ianto pointed out as he stood up. "I'll make some tea. You get the bath ready." He gave Jack a little smile that left it up to him what Ianto meant exactly about getting the bath ready.

Jack opened his mouth to speak, and then closed it again. He wanted to tell Ianto that he'd cared for a long time, that he always would. The reminder that he rarely showed that care seemed to make the feeling of guilt over not realising Ianto was missing worse.

"I know you do, and it's appreciated," Jack said as stood up, adding sheepishly, "I just wanted to return the favour." He felt awkward talking about things like this. Sex he could talk about, combat, and aliens and time travel with no problem. But deeper feelings, he'd tried to keep out of the mix. It was a survival tactic, a defense mechanism to keep them and himself from hurting, but somehow, just by being there, Ianto made it impossible for him to do that and damn but that scared him.

Jack wandered through to the bathroom before he said anything else, said something too revealing.

He liked the bath in Ianto's room, it was big enough for two, and never seemed to run short of hot water. Turning on the taps he listened to the running water for a moment, before unhooking his braces and removing his shirt.

Knowing that the bath would take a while to fill, Jack, now in a tee-shirt and braces hanging loose, went to find out how far Ianto had got with making tea.

Ianto paused and studied Jack, then slowly smiled in understanding. "Thank you," he murmured. "I appreciate you doing it too."

Jack went into the bathroom then. When he came back, Ianto turned, opening his mouth to say something. His words died in his throat as he eyed Jack up and down with bright eyes. He loved seeing Jack in his tee shirt. It made it easier to see the hard muscles and strong planes of his chest. Try as he might, Ianto could never get himself to look that good.

His mind started to wander, thinking about that strong body pressing him down into a warm, firm mattress then shook his head slightly. He was supposed to be making tea, not daydreaming.

Jack grinned as he saw Ianto's expression, knowing his usual reaction to having Jack walking around half dressed.

"The bath will be a few minutes," Jack said as he got a couple of mugs out of the cupboard for Ianto. He reasoned that he might as well have some tea as well, as it didn't take any more time to put on the kettle for two people than it did for one.

He let his hand brush against Ianto's as he handed him the mugs, a little reassuring gesture before he asked him, "This woman that took you, did she say why?"

Jack knew it probably wasn't really the best time to ask, but he needed to know why, because in his experience if you knew why somebody was doing something you tended to be a lot more prepared when it came to stopping them. Not that he wanted there to be a repeat performance, hopefully whoever that woman was she'd stay clear of Ianto from now on.

"Thank you," Ianto said as he took the cups and set them down on the counter. He shook his head. "No, I have no idea why she targeted me or the other people I was with. It seemed to be completely random. I'm just glad no one was seriously injured."

He turned to Jack, resting his hand lightly on his arm for a moment in a comforting gesture. "Don't worry about it. If I see her again, I will stay very clear of her, I promise."
