Tch. [He had been looking around the firing range for some time now, and just confirmed his suspicions. Not that he expected there to be weapons there -- even locked up and guarded by sentinels or something -- but there wasn't even the smell of gunpowder hanging in the air that he was used to. With a bit of a smirk, said to the empty room.] Figures. Doesn't seem that anyone even uses this place that much.

[ Action | Closed ]

[Lockon didn't know what to tell Sakura. He had only met Ashton once, and didn't really know him all that well. Lacus seemed to have the better handle on the situation, on the whole, so he was fine with just cleaning the kitchen while the girls sat in the dining room in Lacus' new home.

But he couldn't help but overhear, just a little...]

Someone with adequate time and inadequate sanity could make anything lethal, but I won't be the one to point that out to Acumen. I like not living in a padded room.

[He nods, matching Neil's somber tone.] A strange fog rolled in, followed by a healthy supply of bloodthirsty monsters. And... holes, oddly enough. [He has his theories, but he's only offering mild bafflement for now.]

Nn, point. [Small sigh.] There are worse ways to spend the rest of our sentences.

[He put a hand to his head, chuckling a little.] If this was any other place, I'd call all of that pretty crazy... but there's no telling what people here are capable of. [Yes, he automatically blamed it on someone, or some people here, because thinking that Acumen was just playing with them was not going to be healthy for Lockon.]

...holes? [There was something he hadn't heard about, yet.]

[Cain pulls his lips back grimly.] I've seen something like it before, unfortunately. But I hope it's one of the inmates doing it--people can be dealt with. [Tears in time-space, not so much.]

Oh, a fair few holes, yes. I couldn't see their bottoms, but I admit they were the least of my worries at the time.

Let's hope, in that case, that someone has some clues. [Shaking his head.] It took an awful long time to get the last prison-wide incident under control. I'm beginning to think it'd be safer to sleep during the day. [A small smirk; he was halfway serious. Everything that goes down happens at night.]

Huh. Bottomless pits. [Thinking to that evening, and how he encountered nothing like that on his way home with Lacus.] I didn't hear any explosions or feel any shakes... I wonder how that's possible?

Heh, I can't blame you. Well, we're forewarned for tonight. As long as people remain indoors, no one else should be harmed. [He seems pretty confident about that. When your enemy doesn't have artillery or thumbs, defending buildings sounds like a breeze!]

They appeared with the fog and monsters, but they sure seemed real enough. [Cain shrugs.] Mass hallucinations? The hurt was real enough, though. [He pulls his collar down a bit, revealing bandages where a puppet's strings got a little too close.]

That's true enough. The Shelter is specifically designed for this sort of event, if I remember right. [And now he knows why.]

[He looks on at the bandages and frowns.] Someone is playing a dangerous game with the lives of people here.

[Readjusting the cloth. That first part confirms something he's been suspicious of since arriving.] So, the bunker-style dormitories aren't just a strange cultural quirk.

[Sighing.] I'm used to being in constant danger. While the Defense Force will do its best to protect those who aren't, it would be nice if the unsavory would stop testing that theory.

[A chuckle.] No, they're more practical than that.

Mm, it would be. Here's to hoping, ne?

Well, can't say I dislike it. Feels like home, and keeps people safe.

Absolutely. Acumen making some adjustments to those magicians and demi-gods we have running loose would help, but I don't see that happening. [As if to vent some small point of frustration, he shoots the target again. Another damn good shot.]

Your home was a bunker-style dormitory? [Slight grin, and another appreciative glance at the target.]

[Thankfully, Lockon's a little more used to knowing people like that are around; still, he chuckles nervously at first.] The warden doesn't seem particularly interested in doing that unless someone's blown a few holes in the place.

[Glancing briefly over at Lockon before lining up another quick shot.] More like a densely-packed underground city with tunnels and narrow walkways for streets. It's really "feels like home if you look at it the right way," but I'm nothing if not optimistic.

[And he fires to punctuate that last sentence. Cain is nothing if not a fine marksman.] And I'm guessing it's because bodies are easier to clean up than ruined buildings.
