[Dream Event]
[The dream begins with a view of the castle courtyard, a small clearing of grass and flowers surrounded by high walls of stone. A set of steps leads up to a raised area underneath a darkened window with the symbol of the Triforce engraved above. It is clear from this viewpoint that besides the trees, and the flowers, and the grass, there is nothing living in this scene. For this one moment, everything is still, and everything is silent.

Without warning, the view switches to a close-up look at the window. It is impossible to see what is on the other side though the layers of dust and dirt that have built up over the glass, but that does not seem to matter to Zelda, who has suddenly appeared to stand beside it.]

Will you look through the window?

((OOC: Zelda dungeon-style dream! This post is closed to those with permission, since I will shortly be going on a trip and will not have much time to tag. If you would like to tag in, please poke me first on plurk or Zelda's contact post.))

[She's a video game character. It's her job to be difficult.]

It is a Deku Baba. If you hit it enough times while it lunges at you, you can separate its head from its body.

[Clue number one. If Dean looks over at the Deku Baba again, he should see that it is swaying slightly from side to side, focused on him and his movements. If he doesn't look ready to move yet, it might even snap its jaws and lick its "lips" with a thick purple tongue.]

[ uh... yeah. That whole lip licking thing? It's kind of creepy. And Dean's seen creepy plenty of times to know. ]

Uh-huh, and you expect me to just go wail on that thing?

[ dead silence, huh? Damn it. ]

Right. Okay! I get it. Go beat the crap out of the plant and we'll call it a day. Jeez... [ swaggering, rolling his shoulders, Dean pulls his hand up for balance before dashing in, ducking and weaving and smashing his hand into the side of Bubba's face. ] Ouch! That... [ Dean swore again and rolled, barely saving his ass from getting chomped on. Stupid thing was harder then it looked. Looking at Zelda, he yelled. ] Hey, rather then just standing there, throw a rock at it or something! [ What he wouldn't give to have Sam there. He'd make prime plant fodder while Dean took care of things... ]

[You know that she can't help you in this fight, Dean. And to make sure of that, when she attempts to step forward, one of the smaller Deku Babas from the side lunges out and snaps at her. She shrieks and stays put right where she is.]

If you hit it with a Deku stick, you will do more damage!

[Clue number two. The giant Deku Baba, in the meantime, watches Dean roll out of the way and then laughs a deep, taunting laugh. Yes, it can do that, because this is a dream. It then shakes his head and lunges again, jaws wide open to try to grab him.]

[ God, he was going to get whiplash from this girl. ] What do you mean a stick? If I whack it against that thing, it's just gonna break!

[ But, well, hell, he'll take anything he can get. Diving rolling to the nearest plant, he'll just snap himself off a stick, holding it like a baseball bat. And damn if he didn't feel silly doing it. ]

Alright, Dean. You just gotta go in there and smack that thing. You can do it!

[ Jumping once, twice, Dean waits for an opportunity, running in the second that Bubba thing licks it's chops. Ugh, disgusting! But he does give it one smart rap across the face. ]

[The monster seems to glow red for a moment as it shudders from the impact. The Deku stick is stronger than it looks, and it will hold up for one more hit. Luckily for Dean, that's just the amount of hits that big Baba needs before it will disintegrate right there. Strangely enough, a quick little victory tune will sound at its defeat.]

Thank you, Dean. Now, please follow me.

[She will then resume walking at that same slow pace across the clearing. Before she starts, though, she will throw out a few recovery hearts that Dean is free to be curious about and take. If he touches one, it will magically cure any and all injuries he has received from this battle, and make him all tingly afterwards too :P]

No, no of course not. I'm just hearing things.

[ ... ] And now I'm just seeing things. [ mumbling to himself, Dean bends down and picks up a heart, starting a bit when it sends a shock straight up his fingers tips and disappears. But he did feel a little rejuvenated. Wiping his hand off on his shirt, he jogged up to Zelda, trying to get the girl to talk again. ]

So, uh... what the hell's up with all this stuff anyway? It's like I'm stuck in some weird game with you as the narrator.

[How perceptive, Dean, but she's not going to say so. You still have a couple of challenges to go before you get to figure everything out.]

We must stop Ganondorf before he spreads further evil throughout the kingdom. Perhaps if enter the castle, we will be able to confront him about his plans.

[So, speaking of challenges, the path that leads out of the clearing is full of them. A stone walkway will lead the two of them to a little area with two patrolling beasts.]

Those are Moblins. We must not let them see us.

[A pattern of chest-high hedges will hide them from view if they crouch. Somehow they have to get to the other side without running into the monsters, because those creatures carry some nasty weapons while Dean and Zelda will be pretty much unarmed. Any ideas, Dean?]

[ Dear Princess: Stop being so damn, high maintenance! ]

Well gee, aren't they just the ugliest things I've ever seen. You sure they can even see through those ugly mugs of theirs?

[ but he is weight his options. Good thing he's a champion stone skipper, because that's what he's going to do in a second after cramming his head around a corner to make sure those mob things weren't looking at him. What better way to distract then with a bit of nose? ]

[Nice try, but these Moblins do not react to "distractions", just like Zelda does not react to your dialogue. He should notice though that they follow a specific pattern and speed while walking. There will be points where one is on the opposite side of the hedge and the other has its back turned, giving them a clear shot at getting to the other side. Will he recognize these windows of opportunity?]

The Moblins may be tall and strong, but they do not pay very good attention to their surroundings. If we wait until their backs are turned, we might be able to run past them.

[There's your clue. Now, it will be a miracle if you can get Zelda moving fast enough. Good luck.]
