Ah, yes, of course - you're Chekov's captain, aren't you? [He hasn't spent much time socially with Chekov but they're both on the investigative team in the Defence Force so they have spent time together.

And that suggestion makes him laugh merrily, and pull Kirk in close for a quick, spinning two-step, making cloth flare out behind them and necessarily clearing quite a path across the dance floor.] You know, I feel we've just hit on a new way of clearing the dance floor!

He lets himself be pulled in, mostly because he's so very unused to being with anyone even more flirtatious than he is and it's taking him rather by surprise. Yeah, been through my share of those too. I didn't usually go looking for them, though. Usually they started because someone didn't like the way their girlfriend or boyfriend was looking at me!

[A hint of his usual smirk accompanies this remark, although Kirk may be too close to see much of it. He can't actually remember the last time he had someone this close to him. Other than Ianto or Spike, of course - or Kitty, because they've had quite a few close encounters too. But somebody new, anyway. It's... causing him a quite intriguing conflict of reactions. He's totally into the flirting, and yet, for possibly the first time, he's very aware of Ianto and how much Ianto might hurt if he were to pursue anything more than just flirting. It's rather interesting.]

[One eyebrow quirking in curious amusement.] I feel Chekov would describe you more as a kind of Robin Hood...

[And then, because if they stay this close any longer he's not going to be able to fight temptation any longer, he gently but deliberately slips out from Kirk's intimate embrace under cover of smoothly grabbing Kirk's hand in order to twirl him beneath their joined arms.

Which also rather conveniently causes the blue band around his left wrist to slide out from under the wide leather of his wrist strap, for Kirk to see. He assumes Kirk's been here long enough to know what a blue band means and that he's not warning him off, per se, just... explaining why he's not going any further with what could otherwise be such a fun little flirtation.]

Well, I am in costume right now. Robin Hood though... I don't hate it.

_{[ He lets himself be twirled, recognizing the motion for what it was, if not why. It was disappointing - Jack was good looking, and he had thought he was clearly interested. It would have made for a fun evening, to say the least. Not that he wasn't having fun, it would just be a different kind of fun.

He comes back to Jack, less close now though, even if he did hope Jack would change his mind. His eyes flicker to the band, not having remembered seeing it before and didn't think it went with Jack's current attire, per say. He seemed a man that was put together, so something out of place wasn't so easy to just pass over. ]}

Interesting bit of jewelry there. A lovely color.

[And well, Kirk's next question at least make it easy to bring up his unavailable status. He chuckles, turning his wrist as if examining the band for the first time.] I suppose it is. I never really thought about it as pretty, more what it stands for. [A faint quirk of his eyebrows.] You're not acquainted yet with the sex bands system here? Or have you just not seen one in person yet?

[He laughs out loud at the tights comment, delighted by the flirting, but sobers abruptly at Kirk's reaction to the sex bands stuff. His movement finally slows to a complete halt, because this is a conversation that's too serious - and potentially devastating, if Kirk is as much like him as he seems to be - to have whilst dancing. He draws the younger man to the side, his gaze sympathetic.]

I'm sorry. I'm really sorry. You can't have sex here without a sex band. And you can't have casual sex with penetration. A red band means you can get it on with as many people as you like, but only as far as third base. If you want to actually fuck someone, you need a blue band, but then you're effectively restricted to that person and up to one other.

[He quirks a rueful smile.] You're pretty lucky you haven't got into trouble already. I got black-banded my first day here!

_{[ He's not that young. He's thirty. But all right, compared to Jack that was practically a teen. He follows Jack, not dazed so much as shocked and yes, quite frankly, a little upset.

It wasn't that he couldn't live his life without sex. He could. He had been going without it for quite a bit back home. A captain does not fraternize with his crew - it ran to close to a potential abuse of power, and he didn't want to even begin to toe that line. Ever. Only about three or four people would he trust that he was not doing so, but those people were either taken or that simply was not what their relationship was about as it stood.

But even though he could live without it, it didn't make him celibate, or mean that sex didn't play a role in his life. An important one, perhaps. It was a real, tangible connection for him to the world of the living, a reminder of his own humanity and that brief, beautiful flare of being connected with someone, of not feeling quite so alone and alien. He liked to hear heart beats thundering and taste sweat and feel his skin bruising, take all those things and sear them into his being to remind himself that death had not been so very permanent.

He manages to give Jack a smile of his own back, but it is dimmed as he processes the information, wondering how to order his life to achieve that sensation, that necessary part of his own therapy even three years removed from the event. Some habits you just didn't grow out of after an event like that, especially with no one to really talk to and understand it. ]}

That's insane. This is just some digital prison, isn't it? Why would they care if we go around having one night stands or if we're committed? It makes no sense. Bad enough they steal us from our worlds, now they're putting rules on our love lives?

_{[ He huffs, irritated, crossing his arms over his chest and glaring at the blue band on Jack's wrist as if it were personally responsible for this development. ]}

[He watches Kirk absorb it all, knowing this is probably exactly what his face looked like when he first heard about all this. They're as alike as he first assumed, it seems, at least in this. He even feels he might be getting that there's something a little more to it than just a sheer love of physical intimacy, with Kirk as there is with him, but that's probably a conversation for another day when they haven't only just met.]

I know. It's ridiculous. I never have managed to get a real answer from them about that. The most they'll give me is that they don't want relationships getting messy when we're all stuck together down here, but that doesn't really hold water, if you'll forgive the pun!

And yeah. Black bands mean you can't touch anyone. At all.

[His shudder and the look on his face make it clear that that is possibly the worst kind of hell for someone like Jack Harkness.]

Yep. [He knows all about messy relationship, although to be fair most of his have involved sex, or at least UST!

He frowns a moment.] Actually, sorry, black bands don't mean you literally can't touch anyone at all. They just react if you get at all excited and fling you away from each other. [Which, with the way he'd felt about seeing Ianto again after watching him die in his arms before he arrived here, had been pretty much the same thing as not being able to touch anyone.]

And you don't get them for just kissing. Kissing's virtually encouraged here, really, given the Mistletoe Bot day we get every fifty days or so! They just don't want you doing more than fooling around unbanded. You're okay as long as you don't get anywhere near orgasm.

Yeah, me too. [A faint shrug.] Although in some ways it's actually worked out for me. My boyfriend always used to be very patient with my sleeping around, but he's a lot happier here knowing I'm not getting it on with anyone else.

It might have been a different matter if he hadn't been here, though. It's one thing agreeing to monogamy for him, but quite another not to be able to go all the way in a casual one night stand.

Never staying in one place long enough to stay with anybody? It can be hard, even while it's enjoyably freeing too.

[And then he flat out laughed when Kirk finally came out and said he'd have liked a kiss. Because after all, as he'd said, kissing, as long as there was nothing more to it, was fine. Practically encouraged by the wardens, in fact!

He smirked knowingly as he glanced about for Ianto, finally finding him in the middle of the floor with Spike, and his eyes widened as, after a moment, he realised that they were doing a whole lot more than just dancing!

Well, in that case, he was sure Ianto wouldn't mind him indulding himself just a little...]

Oh well, if it's a kiss you're after, I can certainly oblige there! [Blue eyes dancing as brought up one warm hand to palm Kirk's jaw and leans in. He was keeping a close eye on Kirk's reaction in case this wasn't actually welcome, but if he didn't get any adverse reaction he was going to lay a warm, firm kiss on those tempting pink lips.]

It's not really fair, is it? To ask someone to wait for you for five years, or even more. Besides, I'm rather married to the work and my silver lady.

It was what he told himself when he didn't say goodbye the morning after, not properly, when he refused to promise to keep in true contact or to say a very certain word. That little word scared him, sent him running - it was simply now he had a much wider array of places to run to.

The sudden change in attitude is a surprise, and while Kirk does not see exactly Spike and Ianto are up to, he assumes that Jack has good reason for this. Just from their conversation, Jack doesn't seem like the sort of man who would do something to upset his lover, and who the hell was he kidding? He did want a kiss. He wanted a lot more, in fact, but without the band he was out of luck.

So he might as well enjoy what was being freely given, shouldn't he?

Kirk pressed back against Jack's lips, fingers cupping the back of his head, sinking into the thick hair. If this was going to be his one kiss from this man, he was going to make the most of it to say the least. He parted his lips, inviting more, his own tongue brushing across Jack's lower lip while he pressed himself flush to the older man, balancing himself by digging his other hand into Jack's shirt. ]}

[Enjoying what he could have and doing his best not to mind too much about what he couldn't was very much Jack's philosophy too - and there was certainly a lot to enjoy here. Not least the fact that Kirk was probably the first person he'd kissed casually here who really kissed back with a complete lack of embarrassment. It was refreshing and exciting and made not minding wanting more than just a kiss rather a lot harder, but that didn't mean he wasn't going to make the most of it.

His free hand came around Kirk's waist for support as he adjusted his stance slightly for better balance, and his mouth opened at that brush of Kirk's tongue over his lip, tongue slipping out to twine sensuously with Kirk's as he moaned softly in pleasure. A very long time indeed since he'd enjoyed a kiss like this from someone he'd just met.]

[It would happen again if Jack had any say in the matter. He was already looking forward to the next Mistletoe Day, which by his calculations shouldn't be too far away! And he was right there with Kirk in damning the sex bands - an emotion he hadn't felt for quite some time. He had Ianto and he had Spike and times had been exciting enough with just that, but he really would have liked to go further than this with Kirk. He could feel his cock stirring against the hip pressed against his, eager for more.

So it was with a good deal of regret and with only precarious self-possession that he forced himself to gradually calm the kiss down, because he really didn't want to be walking round with a hard on for the rest of the evening. Slowly drawing back to create some space between them, and finally stilling the kiss to just his lips against Kirk's, and then just his forehead resting against Kirk's forehead.]

Whoever made those up, he was going to personally stick a fist through their circuitry. If it had gone on any longer, he really would have had to hide behind a bush for a little while, maybe steal some ice from the drinks to calm himself down. Kirk had wanted a lot of people in his life, but there was something about wanting someone and not being able to have them that really amped him up. Damn it.
