[He automatically reaches for the pastry, but it falls right through his hand. He tries not to grab or hold things; it's a little too reminiscent of fading. Even knowing he's fine, it still sends a jolt through him.] Thanks, but I, uh, I'm not hungry anyway...

[Phanan handles he situation with typical sensitive maturity by swiping his hook and the apple back and forth through his body as many times as he can.] Look at all the delicious party food you're missing out on. This must be very frustrating for you.

[He doesn't look amused. But he's not angry. It's mostly for show. He doesn't even feel it - it just looks weird seeing something pass right through him like that.] I'll ask Mom to make me a pie tomorrow. Her food is better anyway.

True, that's not an argument I can really win. [He'll still wave food at you though.] So, you're the ghost expert. How accurate is this transformation of yours?

[As long as he waves it at and not through. He only has so much patience (and it's not a lot).]

I think it's just physical. I would know if I were actually dead. I think. I mean, most of the ghosts I've met were aware of their status. And I can sense that sort of thing. I'm sure I would know...

Just academic curiosity. I've heard some Jedi could become ghosts but I know absolutely nothing about that. Not really my thing. [And they're all dead now anyway so maybe there are lots of ghosts running around he doesn't know about.]

That's cool... Wait, they become ghosts while they're still alive, or after they die?

I think it's an after they die thing. No idea though. Funnily enough they're all dead so it's sort of hard to ask them.

Hard for you, maybe. [Not that he could drag up souls from other worlds/universes/dimensions/whatever, and especially not from here. But it would cool if he could.]

Ooh look at you and your supernatural powers, so impressive. [A smirk to make it clear he's just kidding. He does actually find them pretty impressive.]

They are impressive. [He can admit that, even if he has a love-hate relationship with them - base more on how people react to them rather than the powers themselves. And they make him so damn tired.] Are we getting a real parrot or hoping a fake one will turn real? [He does remember they had some kind of a goal.]

Let's start with a fake one and if that doesn't work we'll upgrade. [He is admittedly very easily distracted and adjusts his course to head for the costume shop.]

Awesome. [He's curious to see if additions to a costume will also be affected. Also, a pirate parrot could be cool. Would it talk and ask for crackers?] Did I ever tell you I was really into pirates when I was younger?

[He heads into the costume shop and begins his parrot search.] No, you didn't. Does that mean I'm extra impressive today?

You're implying I find you impressive any other day. [Kidding, kidding.] But it is kind of cool.

I firmly believe everyone finds me impressive all the time so I'm not worried. [He actually sounds almost serious for his next part. This is proof he cares about you and respects your opinion, get excited kid.] I'm glad you think it's cool. It makes it much easier to live with for today. I'm not a fan of the prosthetics at the best time so I'm not loving the downgrade.

[He kinda figured, recalling a previous conversation. He's glad he can help in some capacity, though he doesn't really know how to convey that.] What are sons for?

[He doesn't know what sons are for. Manipulating? It sounded good in his head.]

I think your job description includes causing me stress and letting you tell about how much better/worse things were back in my day. And occasional heartfelt moments.

I'm not sure how telling me about things back in your day would be all that useful. [Different worlds and all. But he wouldn't mind hearing it anyway.] Do I cause you stress? [They had occasional heartfelt moments down pretty good, he thought.]

Back in my day we listened to stories about how hard life was on different planets and we liked it. [And they walked to their spaceships in the snow. Uphill both ways. And never complained. Or something.]

No. I worry about you sometimes but you're also obviously capible of taking care of yourself so no, you don't cause me stress.

[He rolls his eyes - teenagers are supposed to do that - but also, he's amused.

It was nice hear he was "obviously capable" of taking care of himself. Sometimes, he wasn't so sure - though he had plenty of practice. Unfortunately.]
Well then, I'm sorry I worry you. I worry about you sometimes, too. [Which it what happens when you care about someone, so...]
