Jack's from a few years in my future. I already know being stuck here is a better alternative than what's waiting for me at home.

[It's been long enough since he found out to keep him from being too afraid of talking about his death anymore. But it's enough to stop him wanting to get home.] Besides, I never had much of a life back home outside of Torchwood. This place has changed that, oddly enough. It's not all bad.

It's alright. I've know for awhile so it doesn't create quite the feeling of dread it once did. I just didn't want you to think I'd given up for no reason. I imagine you have quite a lot to get back to.

[And Jack is somewhere in the middle. He suspects if he weren't here Jack would already have made much more of an effort to escape. Knowing him he probably would have even managed it.]

[Though clearly not what the Doctor was most interested in. However, he'll take into consideration of Ianto's less than enthusiastic claim of wanting to leave this place. He had a point, making the Doctor perhaps be more considerate if there are others who feel the same.]

Martha had mentioned some of the problems that had occurred before to me.

What did she say? [Genuinely curious and also a bit nervous sounding. There are plenty of stories Martha could have told where he doesn't come off in the best light and he doesn't really want that. Maybe it's because Jack looks up to this man so much. It makes him want to seem good enough.]

[He's not entirely sure what to say to that, and smiles ruefully.] Sorry. It's nothing like that. It's just a bit nerve wracking actually talking to you, that's all. I don't know anyone Jack looks up to like he does with you. Martha as well. It makes me a bit nervous for your approval. I keep worrying what they might have said or what it would make you think about me.
