Dance

He spotted her hanging around at the edge of the dance, and ambled over with a welcoming smile and an outstretched hand.

"Dance with me?"

Martha grinned. "Always for you, Jack." She placed her cup down somewhere and took his hand. "How was your day?" she asked as he led her to the dance floor.

It was good to see her smile, and to feel her coming willingly with him onto the floor. He hadn't been absolutely certain she would.

"Eh, it's been all right," he says, with a shrug, tugging her into his arms. "I spent a lot of it supervising the games which wasn't the most exciting, but - you know. It earned some points!"

She placed her arm on his shoulder and nodded. "Yeah. I told stories. Figured I'd use my talents. And I do like telling stories."

"Heh, perhaps I should have done that too!" he chuckles, starting to move them gently to the beat. The music is a bit freakish for his taste, really, but at least it has a strong beat to dance to. "I have a lot of stories I could tell - and some of them are even true!"

Wildly embellished, most of the time, but on the other hand, some of them don't need to be!

"I don't know, I rather liked not having competition. Though Reid did sort of join me for one story." She grinned. "He was dressed as Edgar Allan Poe and I happened to be reciting the Fall of the House of Usher."

She followed his lead quite well, but Jack was always an easy lead to follow. It made dancing wtih him such a pleasure.

"Yeah? That's cool!" Both the coincidence and the fact that she'd had some good interaction with Reid, especially since she'd been scared she'd driven him away with the vampire thing.

"Have to admit, Edgar Allen Poe is one I never met. He didn't really hang out in the circles I frequented as a Time Agent, and he was dead by the time I got stuck in Cardiff."

Martha merely lifted an eyebrow. "Reid's quite the story teller. If it weren't for the fact he's not typically one to be onstage, I think he'd be quite good at it. Would definitely give me a run for my money!"

"Well, who'd have thought it! He always seems so mousey! Hidden depths, eh?" he grins, twirling her a bit, because he likes it when that makes her laugh.

Martha did laugh when he twirled her, though twirling in trousers didn't have quite the same effect as a swirly skirt. "I think it helped that he was reciting a Poe story while dressed as the author himself. Able to hide behind the costume or something like that. Either way, he was pretty good. But the storytelling was fun today. Glad I at least got to do something fun."

Yeah, the lack of a skirt did mean twirling wasn't quite as fun (though he'd be making up for that later with Captain Kirk and his cape!) but it was still worth it to see her laugh.

"Well, that's two fun things today, then!" he grinned, slowing his movements to a gentle sway for a moment as that tune came to an end, waiting to see what would follow. To his pleasure, it was something with more of a jive feel to it, and he grinned again. No-one could feel sad whilst jiving! "Now this is more like it!" he declared, coming out of hold to spin her under one arm.

Martha laughed again at his giddiness for the swing, though she had to focus more on this dance. As such, her conversation lagged until the dance was over. Once he let her up from the dip, Martha gave him a quick kiss on his cheek.

"I think I need a drink after that." She took his hand and led him to the beverage table, grabbing whatever the acid green drink was.

"Don't know if you heard, but I did talk to Ianto."

He spoke occasionally as they danced, but only really to warn her what move he was about to swing her into; he didn't have breath for more than that! He smiled at the little kiss and pulled her in for a quick hug, before nodding his agreement at the drink request. He could do with one after that too!

He selected some cider, having tried it earlier, and glanced at her over his glass as she spoke. "Yeah, he mentioned it. I'm glad things are getting better between the two of you now."

He'd hated having the two of them against each other.

Martha took a sip and smiled, albeit a little sadly. "I missed him. And you. Even though i think it was right for me to figure out some boundaries it was hard not having you as my go to people. I think it's going to take some time with Ianto, but there's hope."

"There's definitely hope. He can hold a grudge, true, but he can also let go of them surprisingly quickly." Look at his turn-around regarding Spike, for example! He smiled warmly. "You'll be fine, the two of you. Just need some time for things to work their way through. And you know he'd still do anything to help you if you need it, don't you? We're always there for you, if you need us."

"Thank you, Jack. I do know that." At least, she wants to believe it, though she's not always sure sometimes. She turns the conversation to something lighter.

"What do you plan to do with your points from today?"

"I'm saving them up for something special," he says promptly, because he doesn't want to give too much away. He wants this to be a surprise, partly to please her, partly because he suspects she'll refuse his points if she knows in advance. To put her off the scent, he adds, "And, you know, for emergencies. I need points to get bullets for my gun, for example. And you never know when you're going to need those!"

"Yes. I imagine the bullets would cost a pretty penny. Do you need to use them often though? The bullets?" Perhaps for the velociraptors. "I decided to take your advice and ask the Wardens for scar removal. Hopefully this can at least get a bullet wound or two removed."

"Not that often. But I ran out the last time the raptors escaped. It seemed sensible to stock up for the next time!" It's likely there'll be a next time, after all. Or something worse.

He regards her quietly for a moment, pleased that she's actually made the step to ask the wardens about getting rid of her scars. "They said they'd do it, then? If you get enough points?"

"Definitely. I was out for the last one with nothing better than a kitchen knife. Kind of dumb in the grand scheme of things, but they don't give us much to work with here do they?"

Martha sipped her drink, though she ended up sputtering at his question. Laughing and drinking don't mix. She reached for a napkin to mop her face as she answered.

"They said they are capable of removing any scars received at any time. And they intimated it would be a steep price. I wasn't in the mood for fighting so I took their offer to gain more and figured I'd ask again in a few days."

[OOC: Speaking of, Martha's probably due to talk to them again about this. And I'd love for her to find out somehow that Jack did donate some points to her, though obviously that's up to you how that happens.]

"Yeah, exactly, kitchen knives aren't the best weapon against those things." He grinned. "Perhaps we should both brush up on our archery skills for when the bullets run out!" Remembering their joint attempts at archery at the Day 365 celebrations. "At least bows and arrows can be made from the materials around here!"

He frowned when she spluttered, ready to bang her on the back if she seemed to need it, but she recovered on her own and he nodded, brain working fast. "Thank goodness for that! I was kind of worried they'd say no, that it was good for you to have to work through it or some crap like that."

[I'll have him go and talk to the AIs this day/week. Then they can surprise her with more points than she thought when *she* goes to talk to them! :-)]

"Oh god the archery!" She laughed again. "I never spent all that much time in the shooting range here, but that's not a bad idea. The laughter died away then. "Do you think they'd let us make arrows? If we just started sharpening sticks and storing them away, would they stay put do you think?"

He grinned along with her, because their attempt at archery had been rather laughable.

"I'm pretty sure I remember someone made bows and arrows while they were here. Artemis, perhaps?"

"Oh! Then yes. Perhaps we need to start a woodworking class. And archery lessons." Martha bumped shoulders with him. "I'm up for it if you are!"

"It's a plan." He thinks a moment. "Might need to actually take woodworking classes first. It's not something I've had much experience of, really!"
