Stories
Since signing up to tell stories, Martha wasn't completely sure what she should wear. In the end, she elected to wear black - similar to what she wore when she walked the world during the Paradox year. She'd been a story teller then, and she was a storyteller now. Martha stood in a clearing in Tva park. There were hay bales set up for people to sit on, or they could lounge on the ground.

Every other hour, she came out to tell spooky stories. Some were completely made up, some were her adventures with the Doctor (Shakespeare anyone?), and some were stories from home. Poe, Irving, even a story by Louisa May Alcott! Martha knew how to tell a story and she was happy to do so today.

"During the whole of a dull, dark, and soundless day in the autumn of the year, when the clouds hung oppressively low in the heavens, I had been passing alone, on horseback, through a singularly dreary tract of country;" (Fall of the House of Usher by Edgar Allan Poe)

Food/Fun & Games
In between story sessions, Martha found her way to the food table. While the spiced cider looked really good, she elected for tea and honey to help rest her throat. Similarly, she stayed away from most of the sweets. Of course, once her last story session was over, she was going to have a very serious date with some chocolate.

Dance
Martha didn't really plan on dancing, but she did stop by to watch. Of course, that wouldn't stop her from dancing if someone asked her, but she somehow doubted anyone would. It impressed her that there were always dances here, and always takers for dances. Martha stood on the sidelines with some cider, watching everyone and tapping her foot to the music.

He spotted her hanging around at the edge of the dance, and ambled over with a welcoming smile and an outstretched hand.

"Dance with me?"

Martha grinned. "Always for you, Jack." She placed her cup down somewhere and took his hand. "How was your day?" she asked as he led her to the dance floor.

It was good to see her smile, and to feel her coming willingly with him onto the floor. He hadn't been absolutely certain she would.

"Eh, it's been all right," he says, with a shrug, tugging her into his arms. "I spent a lot of it supervising the games which wasn't the most exciting, but - you know. It earned some points!"

She placed her arm on his shoulder and nodded. "Yeah. I told stories. Figured I'd use my talents. And I do like telling stories."

"Heh, perhaps I should have done that too!" he chuckles, starting to move them gently to the beat. The music is a bit freakish for his taste, really, but at least it has a strong beat to dance to. "I have a lot of stories I could tell - and some of them are even true!"

Wildly embellished, most of the time, but on the other hand, some of them don't need to be!

"I don't know, I rather liked not having competition. Though Reid did sort of join me for one story." She grinned. "He was dressed as Edgar Allan Poe and I happened to be reciting the Fall of the House of Usher."

She followed his lead quite well, but Jack was always an easy lead to follow. It made dancing wtih him such a pleasure.

"Yeah? That's cool!" Both the coincidence and the fact that she'd had some good interaction with Reid, especially since she'd been scared she'd driven him away with the vampire thing.

"Have to admit, Edgar Allen Poe is one I never met. He didn't really hang out in the circles I frequented as a Time Agent, and he was dead by the time I got stuck in Cardiff."

Martha merely lifted an eyebrow. "Reid's quite the story teller. If it weren't for the fact he's not typically one to be onstage, I think he'd be quite good at it. Would definitely give me a run for my money!"

"Well, who'd have thought it! He always seems so mousey! Hidden depths, eh?" he grins, twirling her a bit, because he likes it when that makes her laugh.

Martha did laugh when he twirled her, though twirling in trousers didn't have quite the same effect as a swirly skirt. "I think it helped that he was reciting a Poe story while dressed as the author himself. Able to hide behind the costume or something like that. Either way, he was pretty good. But the storytelling was fun today. Glad I at least got to do something fun."

Yeah, the lack of a skirt did mean twirling wasn't quite as fun (though he'd be making up for that later with Captain Kirk and his cape!) but it was still worth it to see her laugh.

"Well, that's two fun things today, then!" he grinned, slowing his movements to a gentle sway for a moment as that tune came to an end, waiting to see what would follow. To his pleasure, it was something with more of a jive feel to it, and he grinned again. No-one could feel sad whilst jiving! "Now this is more like it!" he declared, coming out of hold to spin her under one arm.

Martha laughed again at his giddiness for the swing, though she had to focus more on this dance. As such, her conversation lagged until the dance was over. Once he let her up from the dip, Martha gave him a quick kiss on his cheek.

"I think I need a drink after that." She took his hand and led him to the beverage table, grabbing whatever the acid green drink was.

"Don't know if you heard, but I did talk to Ianto."

Surprisingly, he didn't know that she was going to do this, nor that she was going to read Poe of all things. It's a funny coincidence, considering his costume choices. Trying to keep a straight face, he joins her to end the sentence:

"-and at length found myself, as the shades of evening drew on, within view of the melancholy House of Usher. "

Don't worry, he's not going to steal the show. It's just nice to come across someone else who likes the spooky classics.

Martha breaks character with a smile and addresses the audience. "Well would you look at that! It seems Edgar Allen Poe has joined us this evening." She held out a hand to invite Reid on stage. "Would you care to tell the story with me?"

Well, if she's insisting he's not going to turn her down. It's getting more and more difficult to not grin happily, which isn't very in character for him. Taking a moment to rearrange his expression into something more somber — he's not an actor like Garcia, but surely a performer in his own right — Reid joins her on the stage.

"It would be my honor, Miss."

Martha smiles up at him and leads him to center stage. She lets go of his hand, gestures to the audience, and then steps back so he can continue the story. She's actually excited. Martha's always been a storyteller, never a story listener.

Well, now he's nervous. The costume helps somehow and although he fumbles a little in the beginning, he soon finds his stride. This is like lecturing, like magic tricks and it helps that Halloween is his absolute favorite time of year, hands down. Always did like spooky performances.

"I know not how it was --but, with the first glimpse of the building, a sense of insufferable gloom pervaded my spirit. I say insufferable; for the feeling was unrelieved by any of that half-pleasurable, because poetic, sentiment, with which the mind usually receives even the sternest natural images of the desolate or terrible. I looked upon the scene before me --upon the mere house, and the simple landscape features of the domain --upon the bleak walls --upon the vacant eye-like windows --upon a few rank sedges --and upon a few white trunks of decayed trees --with an utter depression of soul which I can compare to no earthly sensation more properly than to the after-dream of the reveller upon opium --the bitter lapse into everyday life --the hideous dropping off of the veil."

He continues the story, getting into the character and the pace as he goes along. At least he doesn't have to worry about knowing the words.

Even though she's listening from the shadows of the stage rather than the audience, Martha still finds herself captivated. Sure Reid stumbles here and there, but no one's a perfect storyteller without practice. And few amateur storytellers have as much practice as Martha does.

She applauds as loudly as everyone else when he finishes and waits on the side of the stage for him. "Bravo! Bravo!"

Once it's over and the applause come, he can't quite keep himself from shifting awkwardly — smiling, of course. It was a lot of fun but this is about all the attention he can take at the moment. Bowing stiffly, Reid makes his way off the stage, nodding to Martha to take over.

"I think I shall retreat to the audience for the remainder. Better leave the story telling to the professionals."

Martha lays a reassuring hand on his arm. "You were perfect." Even so, she does jump back on stage and immediately launches into the Weird Sisters Monologue from Macbeth, the lead in to her story of the Carrionites.

When she's finally done with her half hour, Martha bows and leaves the stage, looking for Reid in the crowd.

"I think perhaps it's good you don't enjoy the spotlight, otherwise I'd have some real competition with my story telling," she exclaimed when she spotted him and made her way over.

Reid's quite happy to enjoy the rest of her performance as a member of the audience, applauding wholeheartedly when she finishes. She's good and he can't quite keep himself from feeling a twinge of longing for Garcia. This is a rough holiday when it comes to being homesick.

"It was fun." he smiles, ears burning with a mix of pride and embarrassment. "I don't think I could do it regularly, but maybe once in a while. Special occasions."

Like today, maybe. He likes performing in itself, he just gets awkward when too much attention is on him.

"You were great though! A real professional!"

Martha grinned. "Thank you. I've had plenty of practice." Enough to definitely count as a professional story teller. "I don't have the opportunity to tell stories much anymore though. I was glad to have the chance. As for you, I might have to find some special occasions then. I may not want the competition here, but I do enjoy hearing stories as much as anyone else. Rarely do I have a chance to be on the listening side."

"Maybe we could, ah... set up a club or something. Gather some people and take turns telling stories or reading aloud."

Sounds like a comforting sort of activity that Garcia would've suggested, if she was still here. Wow, this is just a day full of nostalgia and homesickness, isn't it?

Martha lifted an eyebrow. "That's not a bad idea. There are plenty of areas in the parks that could easily work for something like that."

A slow smile spread across her face. "It would be interesting to hear stories from some of hte people here. There are so many different worlds, I bet they have different tales too."
