DAY 378 [Private/Suzaku][Open Action]
[Private to Suzaku]
Hey, can you meet me at Defense Force headquarters?

[Open Action]
[Kitty has been keeping to herself since the shared dreaming. That still ended in a surprising amount of running into people, but today she's falling into her regular routine again—exercising which can become sparring if someone has a mind to join her, looking into things at Defense Force headquarters, planning some lessons for the technology classes she teaches which she'll go head and take care of in the library, some meaningful shopping of essentials and some idle shopping of random stuff because sometimes you need a baseball cap with an octopus on it? And of course, she's got to eat!]

That was days ago. You've had time to rethink your decisions. [He's so pleased, though, and notes and a couple of books are being packed away very hurriedly.] What do you have in mind?

Then I must have approved my decisions as wise and enduring.

Mm, I don't know. Dome's the limit. I might be in a rut. Anything you haven't checked out or already like and want to do again?

That was a sound executive decision. [Possibly.]

Quatro Park, maybe? I haven't spent as much time there as I'd like. [He frowns.] That's a boring answer. Something else would be fine, too.

[She laughs lightly.] Quatro park is fine. You don't have to keep me entertained. Besides, nice statues. Pretty plants.

[Oh, thank gods. He can be entertaining for maybe three minutes tops.] Those are my two favorite things about it. Didn't see much of either before showing up here.

You know, sometimes the museum has art. It rotates all kinds of things. Sometimes it's mentioned in the morning announcement, but it's displaying things and changing them out whether they say something or not. I usually check it out every couple of days on my rounds if nothing else.

Do you drop in on your rounds because you're a museum enthusiast or because it's a hotbed of criminal activity?

Because I'm a criminal activity enthusiast and hoping for a museum feature on hotbeds.

Cute. [Stop making him smile, his face doesn't know how to handle it and there are not many appropriate icons.] You do it all, don't you? Fight crime, teach tech, dance, speak half a dozen languages, crack jokes. Save things for the rest of us to do.

Sorry, but being awed isn't in my skill set. [That inevitably leads to betrayal and crushing disappointment.] Will respectful admiration do, or do I need to go job hunting?

I guess we'll make do with it, but you're really making this whole prison thing a lot trickier.

Maybe we should be making this conversation harder. We could do it in different languages while walking backwards and avoiding the letter R?

I'm game if you are. [He taps his standard-issue headset.] Or we could just take these off and see how linguistically similar our languages are. [Actually, that sounds really exciting to him.]

[He does likewise and proceeds to talk in a language that's essentially the bastard lovechild of Greek and Latin who was raised by an Indo-Aryan grandmother.] If you can understand me, jump up and down three times and sing a verse from the first song that pops into your head.

[She does speak some Latin and knows the odd Greek root word. She has always been linguistically adept and for a moment she tries to parse that out quietly, but there's too much missing. She could guess at some of the words, but would they be right or even close? It was just a guess in the end.]

I didn't follow any of that. What about you? [While she could say this in a few languages she defaults to English.]

[They should definitely sit down and compare languages at length since Gaeta is conveniently multilingual for plot purposes. None of the languages in the Twelve Colonies have the same Germanic roots as English, but there's definitely common ground to be found. Words that sound familiar, similar structure.

Of course none of that can be determined in a sentence or two, so Gaeta puts the headset back on. If Kitty does the same, she'll be able to understand him!]
I didn't catch a word of that, but thanks for humoring me.

[She puts her back on in time to hear him.] Some of the words sounded familiar, but not enough to place it or make a solid guess.

I half hoped that I'd understand you. It wouldn't have meant much of anything since I doubt that we're from the same universe, but knowing that the Colonies' language still exists in a living, thriving population... that would've been nice.

I'm not proof that it isn't at least. You could always test it with other people? But I think a lot of us speak English. That's what I was speaking.

English. [He's not good enough at multitasking to take notes on the go, but this information is definitely being filed away.] Is that Earth's primary language?

It's a very common one even if it's spoken as a second or third language in some countries. We don't necessarily have a primary language. It is the official language where I grew up, but I know a few others.
