Day 376 | private voice; (backdated, sorry!)
[ This voice call was meant for Kitty Pryde, Sr., but Lelouch was not quite specific enough when he made it, so both Kitties get to enjoy this brusque interjection into their regularly-scheduled routine. ]

Miss Pryde, I presume? [ And then, immediately, ] I'd like to report an incident.

[ Specifically, he'd like to report Suzaku's terrible life choices. Is there a form to fill out for that? ]

For me. For some of us. Really, for anyone who'd be dead otherwise, right?

[ Euphie is still his first thought. And then, less comfortably, himself. ]

...I still don't understand why they wait so long to arrest us. But I suppose that's my... linearity limiting me.

[ Belatedly, ] Are there a lot of [ them ] [ us ] people like that here?

That is probably what they'd say, yeah. I suspect it has more to do with none of this actually being a prison. But that's just a hypothesis. [Hard to test.]

Mm, there have been a decent number and probably more than I'm actually aware of because we don't tend to advertise it. It's not the majority as far as I know.

Well, it's just such a personal detail. [ A little bit. Droll. But it sort of is. And... he's not sure he wants either of the people from his own world here knowing, which makes telling strangers less appealing. ]

You think it's an experiment instead? [ Instead of a prison, that is. Yuuki suggested... ]

One of the most personal. [Agreeing.]

I don't know to what end, but yes, I think that makes more sense than believing they think all of this will lead to protecting timelines or rehabilitating us. We're investigating all avenues, but I think this one is the most likely.

"We"? [ The prison at large? The Force? A smaller group of your own choosing? And... let's stick to this topic, at least for now. ]

The investigative team. It's a branch of the defense force. Brute force alone isn't getting us out of this place.

[ Well, no, obviously not. But. Lelouch lets out a willfully-steady breath. ]

Especially not if you believe that this is all... simulated. [ Testing. Curious. Do you, Kitty?

For his part, the actual escaping... doesn't seem to have much of a point. But information-gathering? Yes. Always. ]

I don't think it's a possibility we can ignore. [And yes, she tends toward believing it.]

[ Mmm. He smooths the lines of his shirt for a beat, thinking. ]

If they control everything about this environment, investigation is only more difficult.

[ Maybe they're not experiments, but they're certainly toys to the wardens, he thinks. If this isn't his real body, the choice to scar it was very deliberate. Just... as a small example. ]

And so you see why we aren't all merrily on our way elsewhere yet. [Not exactly the easiest problem to solve.] Throw in people always coming and going and constant distractions.

I wouldn't blame some if they simply gave up. [ Just, putting that out there. ]

It's not a fight for everyone. Giving up is never the choice I make. [Even if there have been times when it was the choice she wanted to make about a few different things.]

That's either admirable -- or stubborn. Though I suppose nothing stops it from being both.

You were here for awhile before you know? One of the first. Maybe day 1. I don't know. I wasn't here until day 24.

Maybe it's just as well. You can see things for how they are now and not for what you miss because it's changed or gone.

Even worse. [ A crooked smile she can't see. He fixes it. ] I suppose it hadn't occurred to me that people would have such sentiments about... a prison, even an unusual one.

[ Not that he doesn't still manage to have things here he regrets and misses. But they've nothing to do with the prison itself. And suddenly he feels -- exposed, like he said that part out loud to her; and what if he might as well have, what if she knew him well enough to guess. ]

--I appreciate your assistance. On this matter. [ Back on topic! Even if that topic is technically one of his odd 'regrets'. ]

[Still no mind or bracket reading abilities here, but she knows the sentiments are more about people than places.]

Suzaku is a friend. [She's not sure she's still on track to call him that or even if it was ever really true the first time around, but she does care about him. She'd like to be closer now that she's better at it.] I try to look out for my friends. Teammates too of course. [Basically just everyone in the prison, okay?]

[ ...He appreciates that sentiment. Good. Suzaku should have -- people who care about him here. Should've had more, back in... their world. ]

One would hope so. [ In response to the teammates comment. And maybe a bit brusquely, to cover for that small sentimental moment. Except that this entire conversation was driven by sentiment, probably obviously. Even more brusque: ] He's a good resource, when utilized correctly.
