[Day 359] Poker Mingle/Closed
[Poker night at Kitty's place in sector 4! She has them set up at the kitchen table with cards and poker chips. There's a variety of snacks set up along the counters—pretzels, chips, dips, pizza rolls, meatballs with toothpicks, etc. There's also some pie because Chuck is here! Ice cream in the freezer since Kitty lives here. You'll also find water, sodas, wine, and beer. Stay hydrated!

There's also a living room with comfortable seating for taking breaks or relaxing after the game. If you're going to snoop you might find a Nathan hiding out in his room or peek through a partially opened door to see Kitty's room. It's very utilitarian—no decorations, generally clean though there are stacks of books, tech, and clothes here and there. For anyone who visited other apartments she's had they were a little warmer and included more personal touches. Nothing too exciting to find in the bathroom, you perv!]

...Maybe I'm not someone who should give advice on this but I'd like to think I know something about being hung up on a guy. I kissed Ned when I was eight and then I spent the rest of my life being in love with him even though we didn't even see each other for twenty years. I didn't realise how stupid that was until I'd been here awhile.

Ned was a perfectly nice guy. Sweet, shy... always wanting to do the right thing, even if he was too nervous to actually do it. He wasn't bad but everything always had to be on his terms and that's bullshit. You shouldn't let some guy dictate your life. He doesn't have the right to tell you how to be happy, whether he does it himself or you do it for him.

Twenty years? [Okay, when she puts it that way she really doesn't want to spend twenty years or more pining for someone she was only with for a few months. It's hard to imagine twenty more years. She didn't think she'd live this long. In one sense, she didn't.]

.........I didn't really know what happy was until him. [Or she'd forgotten. Maybe forced herself to forget so that her days didn't feel so brutal and hollow by comparison. When you're fighting just to survive you make sacrifices. You cope in any way you can to get you to the next sunrise. Getting out of that mode and back to something resembling normal hasn't been an easy transition. Maybe Reid was short cut of sorts. And since he's the only recent frame of reference for what happy is, it's hard to imagine feeling that way again without him.

Even though if she'd stop and really think about it, she has. She has friends here—good ones. Some of them will be here tonight. Many were at her birthday party. She has smiled and laughed and life has gone on without him bit by bit.]

But now you know. You don't need support wheels, Kitty. [ Chuck knows she can be a bit brusque and forward, brutally optimistic and fiercely independent but that's what needs to happen sometimes. You can't hide in the kitchen with the piss shivers every time something bad happens. You can't cry on your own grave when you're clearly alive and breathing. ]

Maybe this is just me, but if you can't be happy with just yourself you need to get to work on that immediately. Making other people responsible for how you feel isn't fair to anyone.
