[ Deciding that makeup will probably draw more attention than the bruise itself, a freshly punched Reid hits the prison streets. He needs coffee and a bagel, so he stops by Bean Crushers, lingering in a corner booth for a while with a stack of books that are due at the library. While in Sector 2 he also takes a moment to stop by the school - he hasn't held classes in forever and he probably won't now that his teacher's aide is missing in action but he can stop by the music room and play piano for a bit. It's been weeks, if not months.

He can, of course, also be encountered on the way between places, sporting a beautiful and fresh shiner. Thanks Leia. ]

Because she thought I lied to her. That I... used my movie knowledge to get close to her without her knowing. It was a breach of trust.

[ He isn't arguing that so much but he did have the best of intentions and it's not like he actually did use movie knowledge in a deliberate manner. If anything he tried to keep the conversation going as if he knew nothing at all. ]

Well... sure, but I'm not really the kind of guy who just kisses someone. [ There's always more to it, emotion and genuine attraction that doesn't just stem from the physical. Even with Lila there was so much more to it than a spontaneous kiss in a pool. ]

Besides, it's all so... messed up. Even if Leia didn't hate me there's Kitty and... and Maeve. There's no room for this.

If it wasn't a passing thing, it was a genuine moment. For the two of you. It could be the start of something. It doesn't have to be, but - don't think it can't be. I understand that Maeve... was special. And what you had with Kitty was too. But neither of those things mean you can't have a little bit of happiness with someone else. For however long it lasts.

[She slips forward a bit to sling her arms around him for a gentle hug.] I doubt she hates you, either.

Deserving has nothing to do with it. [ He's depressed and as such extra stubborn. ]

It's just... my dad left and my mom is sick and that's not her fault, but it's not exactly a stable environment to grow up in. The first girl I ever kissed lived on the other side of the country and when I finally find someone I really like six years later, she's killed the first time I actually get to see her in person.

And with Kitty... things couldn't have been better. We talked about her coming home with me. We talked about having kids and then the Wardens pulled me out of the system or upgraded my OS or whatever it is they're doing and now I don't even know how to talk to her.

I can't keep doing this, Rebecca.

[Squeeze. Squeeeeeeze.] I... know it's hard. Letting go of people is one of the hardest things in the world and trust me, I'm no expert in coping. I don't have anything I can really tell you that'll make it alright except to tell you that it's all up to you. What you want to do, how much you still want to open up to people. I'd hope that you still... have it in you to be happy, because I really think you deserve it Reid.

[She leans back a little, strokes his hair and there's nothing but a genuine look of loving concern on her face. You're really really really important to her, alright?] But I understand if you can't or you don't want to try. But there's still a chance here, with Leia, and you've got the ball in your court right now to make things right or let them slip. No shame in it going either way.

[ What would he do without her? Seriously, what would he do? They adopted each other as replacement team members way back when and that has never been more true than right now. This is the kind of conversation he'd have with JJ or Blake, a vulnerable heart to heart where he doesn't have to play the part of the profiler for one. Rebecca is family and as much as he wants to get out of here, he'd rather not think about what that would mean in terms of never ever talking to her again. ]

I don't know about that... you didn't see her. Even if there was something going on — and I'm not saying there is — I really screwed this one up. It's... bad. I'm lucky if she ever talks to me again.

Even if she's pissed off, you know that won't be forever. Time'll heal things over and whatever - if anything - is lost, you can salvage something from it. You just won't know until you try. Even if it doesn't work out the way it could've, you can still have a friendship there. Or you can get defeated by both of those options and lose that, and - you know I'll be disappointed if you let that happen, right?
