Day 324 - Power Play mingle
[There's no fanfare today. The museum has something about the benefits of sheep's wool. There are no decorations up. The clothing shops have the same sort of stock they had yesterday. And there are no specialized dishes at the restaurants, but you can probably find a power bar at the convenience store, but there's nothing new there.

What is new is whatever power you woke up with or without today. What you do with that is up to you and whomever you encounter.]

What a thrilling life you lead. [He starts shuffling towards the clinic.] I thought I thought you the basics of prank pulling during the tribble incident. You could be practicing that.

Sorry. I guess I don't have your thrilling sense of adventure. Or humor.

Few people do. It's an acquired taste. [Very slightly more seriously.] It meant a lot to Chuck, you letting her look out for you and make sandwiches and stuff.

[Um.] It ... means a lot to me too. I'll try not to mess everything up.

[A roll of his remaining organic eye.] I wouldn't worry about messing it up. Okay, here's the clinic.

Who said you had to worry about anything? [But yes, that was the clinic. Could he hope no one was in need of help today?] How many patients do you typically see?

As your unwanted prison father it's my job to worry. As for patients it depends on the day. I'm thinking with these magic power shenanagins we might have more bumps and bruises than usual. We'll probably have to perform some head amputations.

Well, that's a step up from my real father. [Congrats.] Hope you keep plastic tools on hand. Things might get tricky otherwise.

[Most people would try to get him to open up about his real father. Phanan is not most people. He is emotionally stunted enough to know he is probably not going to be helpful here. He does pause at the clinic door though.] Ooh, good point, scalpels are probably going to fly at your face if we go in there.

[That's what Chuck is for, isn't it?] Sounds exciting, but I already promised to avoid places with sharp objects. Also, I don't want to die.

Smart kid. Okay, new plan, let's try and get me unstuck from you.

I like that plan. Let's do that. I'm getting a cramp in my ... everything.

Maybe I can find a pole or something to hold onto and use to pry myself free.

As long as it doesn't backfire and explode my sensitive medical devices I fully support it.

I thought you had a sense of adventure. [C'mon, walking away to somewhere quiet.] Anyway, magnets can't explode. Can they?

[Shuffling along.] I don't know, I've never put them in this sort of situation before. Anything could happen.

[Heavy, mostly fake, sigh.] Some adult. Aren't you supposed to know these things?

[Here's good enough. Enough clear space and no one around should something go wrong. Nico closes his eyes and reaches down where he normally draws on the shadows, or the ability to raise the dead, or summon ghosts, or pull on the earth, or ... you get the idea. At least there is something there, even if it feels completely alien.] Let me know if anything changes.

Anyone who claims to know things because they're an adult is either delusional or lying to you.

[He's not sure what Nico is doing but all the sudden the magnetic pull keeping his head and hand attached to him vanishes like a switch being flipped and he stands up, cracking his neck gratefully.] Neat!

Well ... yeah. But I assume that of everyone I meet.

[The sudden loss of weight sends him staggering away. He stretches the kinks out of his muscles and winces at a loud pop in his neck.] Sorry I didn't do that sooner.

Ooh I forgot about the whole cynical at a young age thing you have going for you. And no apologies needed. If I don't have at least one strange experience a day I get bored.

I'll leave for now but once you're not magnetic Chuck and I will probably make you come over for awkward family dinner. Be advised.

I love being put in awkward situations. Especially with an audience, and food. Can't wait.
